This league is not based around financial rewards and relates to engagement.
Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - including those powering down or dealing in delegations over the past couple of weeks.
I've used some metrics relating to:
- Posts (P)
- Comments - number of (C)
- Number of people spoken to (PS)
- Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
- Comments - length in characters (C L)
- Witness votes (W) (for those voting via proxy, your total is always 30)
- Up-votes to others (V)
- Up-votes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - No minus score but no bonus HIVE(S V)

I love everything about this. Except if someone delegates to a newbie who has NO RCs they get excluded? I've personally never understood the thinking.
I think engagement IS increasing, and I'm hopeful & excited for Hive in just *so many ways.

The delegations/powerdowns only relate to the Curation Rewards table. Say you had a 25k delegation that expired and were left with 5k HP. Your Curation rewards would be from 30k HP but at the time I run the stats, you only have 5k and so would look like a CR genius.
Once on the list though, you will always appear in the Engagement League if high enough :)
I am in awe of statisticians. LOL. Always helps to understand the thinking. I look fwd to the push to getting the twitter people to actually open the posts too, and comment-vote. ;)
Thanks for explaining - I am a total luddite living under a rock in Asia for the last 17 years... LOL - the inner workings of some parts of Hive remain somewhat of a mystery.
The summary is that delegations/powerdowns will skew the numbers for a week or two and so I just knock people off that list temporarily until Hive Power movements settle down.
I listened to your video yesterday and did feel like most of my content is Hive related - not great for attracting new users. Hopefully, this initiative is here to retain and try to keep folks engaged - i'll leave the creative, big media topics to others :)
Perhaps in my zeal to make my point, I didn't emphasize enough that we NEED the tinkering under the hood to continue - it's an important part of owning a platform collectively. It just doesn't grow the platform and, to some degree, deters newbies who are overwhelmed by the jargon and detail. It has taken me over 2 years to feel brave enough to even comment on posts like this, and to ask when I don't understand. I have 2 degrees after 12 years at university and run a business in Thailand, but this is a new world for me as a solo mom aged 56.

The 3speak stats tell me my video has had 0 views. Go figure. LOL
There is certainly a lot to take in if you start to head down the rabbit hole. What would be nice is a super straight-forward interface that magically displays the content you might like and has the engagement which may show it is interesting after all.
The long-standing issue with multiple front-ends. I think I watched the video on peakd, which I'm guessing others will have too, and that wont count as a 3speak view, sadly.
Soooo helpful to know that. I was feeling a bit deflated at the serious lack of interest. That's critically important information - one of the reasons I stopped posting on 3speak was I was only getting 20 views showing or something. Clearly a major issue for newbie support.
A post scheduler on 3speak would be the 2nd. LOL.

I was wondering when you pull this data do you add it to a google sheet? Can you run a sheet script to pull it from the data source into google sheets? Then I could build a data studios report that updates via that sheet and it looks pretty for everyone to see at any time :)
I don't use a google sheet, but if it allows for formulas then potentially I could.
The raw data output is tweaked and moved into a presentation sheet, and for the EL this presentation changes each week depending on who's been doing what.
I'm not sure if Google sheets will allow me a DB connection or a chunky piece of script to run.
Live engagement figures would be nice, as long as people aren't scamming!

Engagement league on a so called "social media". Hilarious.
Engagement should be natural (not a challenge or a contest) on a social media platform.
Well I'd like to assume it was happening before I set this up. What's wrong with gamifying things and handing out a few prizes?
The wrong is with the lack of engagement on a so called social media platform. Just look around. The real human comments are rare both on the Steem blockchain and on the Hive blockchain. Most of the people are focusing only on their own posts, and they do not care about other people's posts. Most of the posts are ignored/overlooked both on the Steem blockchain and on the Hive blockchain. This leads to many disappointed users, who eventually leave the platform. What good is a post, if no one reads it and no one comments under it? Often does not earn money either. Putting effort and time into posts feels like time wasting.
I agree. Any ideas to help solve these issues?
Maybe lowering the payout threshold from $0.02 could be a good start. Most of the users have a voting value of less than that, and the platform could incentivize people to comment more with a lower payout threshold, because more people could vote for their comments, and thus users could earn money with it. But other than this the only idea I currently have is to keep powering down, leaving the platform, and find a better platform. This is what most of my followers (more than 1000 users) have done in the previous months/years. At least the leaving the platform part. I am trying on the Steem blockchain since 2017.05.17. Almost for three years. And I am still trying, but I am also getting tired of it, like thousands of people before me. Most of the people are not grown up to this technology. Most of the people are ruining these blockchains with their selfish and greedy behavior. This is why the user retention is so bad both on the Steem blockchain and on the Hive blockchain.
I take the point about the payout threshold, but at the time the platform was suffering from spam and farming.
At present you need about 2000 HP to beat the threshold with a full vote. If you moved your STEEM over to HIVE and plugged away for a bit longer, you'd have 2000 HP.
Those with more have mostly bought some along the way - 2000 SP was achievable for a little over $200 at one point.
The system is set up so that the majority of content will lack votes and engagement, and at these 'low' prices that is even more apparent.
So far, I've not seen an alternative to match.

Congratulations everyone, looks like we had a sort of mixed week, but it was very nice to see that there was no real drastic down turn in engagement. I saw in the comments a few new people joining and looking at tracking their progress, welcome to the league to those.
I think communities are actually beginning to take off, and as that happens I think we will see some more engagement out of people. With communities we have a semi-centralized place to go and find the type of content that interest us as consumers, and a place to highlight our works to those that might be interested.
Once again congratulations to everyone, it is nice to see the comments spreading throughout the hive block chain. I wonder sometimes how many different unique post our comments as a league are spread out among?
The amount of comment text was up over last week, even though 20 or so less people were involved.
I hope you are right about communities, that should give people more motivation to engage.
For the last stat, I would need to put the top 100 into a new query, and I guess it would be good to know how many top level posts there were so we could get a %. I'll have a think :)

It's been a while since I received a prize here. Of course, getting into the top 20 helps, and not self-upvoting, but thanks for the HIVE power up all the same. :)
We just had the bitcoin halving, and so far, nothing seems to be happening, so I guess we'll just have to wait a while to see what all the miners do now that it's going to cost them double the energy to run their machines. I mean, that's basically it, right? :)

I did wonder in the halving would be a bit like a rained off firework display - the movement in price has seemingly come over the following year or two and so I think we have some time to wait and see if anything happens.
If think it's just half the rewards for mining a block, and so you could say that it's costing twice as much to try to achieve this :)
