Pebble tossing

I say luck is when an opportunity comes along and you're prepared for it.

Hi folks it's me, the G-dog, and I'm here to confess that...Well, I threw some pebbles in the pond. I know; I said I would not but...Well, it just sort of happened. Here's the story.

After two weeks of doing nothing except whatever I wanted to do, or not do, since the conclusion of my job, I've been feeling really nice as a young girl I know would say. I'm nice. A great way to feel and it's happened due to having no stress, no real deadlines or the need to be anywhere and a lot of hiking. It's nice.

But

I've been feeling a little irresponsible in the last week or so. I knew I would and I mentioned it weeks ago right after I handed my four week notice period to my employer. Leaving a very good job to be unemployed? Not something everyone would do and after working for the last thirty eight years I felt, and knew I would continue to feel, a little irresponsible. So despite saying I wouldn't...I...Umm...I applied for a few jobs.

WTF G-dog!

The thing is I figured I had nothing to lose other than a few moments of my time and so I went onto a national job search website, put in some parameters and clicked search. I'll be honest and say that I applied for jobs that I wasn't really qualified for with pay-grades above what I'm probably worth but I figured why not; What's the harm. Here's the thing...One of them got in contact. I know right?

Went nowhere

The chap, from an international recruitment company, emailed to let me know I wasn't successful. I get it.

It looked like a generic automated email but about a half hour later an email came in that was written by him. He basically explained that I wasn't qualified for the job as I didn't have three years industry experience - the only reason I wasn't qualified - but asked me to clarify what it was I was looking for; my wish list so to speak. I did so and later that day he called me on the phone to offer the opportunity for a role; it wold have been so perfect for me. That didn't work out though as later that day he emailed again and said the company had that role on hold; a recent development. OK, I wasn't too worried.

Content

I told him that I appreciated his assistance and attention and he said he'd put me into his hot list as he liked what he heard in our half-hour phone chat. That's sounded good.

That was a couple days ago and tonight he emailed me a new role that he thought would be perfect for me. On perusing it I agreed and reply-emailed as such. I don't know where it will lead but I thought it was pretty cool that this all came from me applying for a few roles I knew I would not get.

Pebble tossing

I recall skipping rocks in the lake as a kid, throwing pebbles and pretty much anything I could find into the water. I do it now as well, just a little differently.

You see, when a pebble is tossed into the pond it creates ripples and they work their way outwards to the edge of the pond; they may not always cover the whole pond, that depends on the size of it, but they reach a lot more of the pond than the spot in which they're thrown. I've used the metaphor about engagement here on hive many times, but in my current situation, in the real world, it's relevant also.

I threw a few pebbles, job applications, thinking they'd simply sink below the surface, which they did; but the ripples spread nonetheless. I'll throw a few more in time and as I do the ripples will spread and eventually the right things will happen.

Hope it all works out well. There's quite a work ethic there.
I'm taking a sabbatical.... okay it's been a fortnight.

Lol...It'll be a while yet...I just had a moment of insanity. :)

Have a look at https://www.aciworldwide.com/about-aci/careers if somethings matches what you are looking for. There are hot jobs, which has double referral bonus 😀

Thanks mate, I'll take a look.

Ok so how can having free time to go hiking ever get old???? 😜 But at the same time I get ya! It will be interesting to see what opportunities come your way from your pebble-throwing. You might just be surprised!

I'm not too keen on doing anything just yet, as per the post; the time will come though and when it does I'll be ready.

Good luck on the role. About time you get back on the bus with us poor working stiffs, lol. I was very envious of your time off. We've had a lot of turnover on my new team, with several folks leaving due to juicy covid remote working opportunities. A lot of companies are finding that their hiring options expand immensely by expanding their geographic limits. Of course for me, this has nearly doubled my already heavy workload until my empty roles get filled. I have a couple good people just waiting for the HR process to complete, but will still take a month or two for them to get up to speed. Ahh, the joys of management.

It was just a bit of an error really as I'm not really that keen to get back to it after only a couple weeks off. It's good to know someone values my CV though.

I was pretty sure you wouldn't last long, but, to be honest, you lasted way longer than I thought you would. I am happy to hear some positive feedback on your quick inquiry.

There are more and more leaving the industry, why not when they can find a teleworking position and save on the commute time, clothing, gas, and everything else? Covid has changed the face of the industry. You need to be out, as staying home by yourself is no way to be socialized. Nope, not even Cleo.

I am happy for you! Good luck!

It was just a half-hearted attempt and more to just be doing something about it than any real desire for the roles I applied for. It's good to see my CV get some traction though. Now I'm back to doing nothing, lunch today with a friend to see how she's going and three coffee meetings with mates over Friday then dinner out. Not a bad life.

The best life. :) Enjoy every moment, as I know you do!

Maybe you just don't want to admit that you're getting bored "doing nothing" ;D

Hope something great comes up when you're ready and when you get back into the grind it's not actually grindy :D

Lol, maybe you're a smart ass and are completely correct. Maybe.

A non-grindy grind is the best grind to have when one needs to grind it at the grind. It means the grind doesn't feel like a grind and one can let memories of the grind fade into nothingness whilst grinding at the non-grindy grind.

If that meant as long as you're enjoying your work despite the inevitable unpleasant bits that come with everything then sure? :D

I'm not sure what it means to be honest. I was sleepy when I wrote it so I could have written anything at all
.🤪
