Crazy Wild Daffodils

Starting in mid February I began seeing hundreds of yellow flowers popping up on the side of the road and in the forest that I pass on my drive to work. The flowers grow in clumps of a few hundred or maybe a few thousand depending on the location.

Driving by in a car or even just walking by from a distance it was pretty hard to tell what type of flower they were. They basically looked like a massive smear of yellow against the green grass and brown floor of the forest.

I've wanted to have a closer look at them for a while now and finally decided to go for a hike in the forest last weekend. Its just a short distance away from where I live.

We spotted the flowers almost immediately upon entering the woods. They were pretty hard to miss. There were literally millions of them growing just off the path.

On closer inspection, it turns out they are wild Daffodils.

Daffodils are early bloomers in spring. I'm used to seeing the larger domesticated version of them growing in peoples gardens. I've never seen so many wild flowers growing in one spot though, especially not in a forest.

We spent some time walking in the woods and stopped to take a few pictures along the way. The flowers looked best when the sun came out. They almost seemed to glow a bright yellow in the shadows of the trees. They kind of looked like lights on the forest floor.

Unfortunately the day was mostly overcast. The sun only periodically escaped the clouds and it was always brief. So we ended up missing most of the good lighting opportunities.

Nonetheless, we got a few shots worth sharing.

Well, thats it for now. Until next time. Thanks for reading!

Wow! Ive never so many wikd daffs in the woods either, it's gorgeous. We normally see them planted in parks and gardens in UK, and you know spring is coming when they're springing up.

Yeah thats what im used to as well. They come out super early too. I first saw them about a month ago. Now we are getting the second wave of new growth - tree blossoms and budding leaves.

Beautiful and love those shots in the forest! Looks like a wonderful place to walk.

Yes its a decent forest by our house. We try to go once a week if the weather is nice

Wow, never seen so many wild Daffodils. We have a few growing on our farm but nothing even close to that. You should dig up some of those bulbs and plant them at you home, but be carful they may takeover, haha ;)

Haha thats a good idea i should do that. I saw a few people digging some up. It would be great if they took over where the guant patch of stinging nettle is growing. I could do without those weeds.

On no, don't kill the nettle. Even though it is prickly and painful, it is quite good to eat. All you have to do is boil it till it softens then use it like spinach. All the prickliness goes away after boiling. Lots of recipes online.

I've actually been told that by several people but have never tried it. I really need to give it a go, especially since I have a hole crop of it in the backyard. Ive heard that you can make tea out of it as well.

Wild things in nature do have magical beauty. It is like pulling us to pause there and forget about our problems.

Oh, I've never seen a daffodil-like that. It looks amazing in there. I'm sure it's also great for photoshoots :)

Worth sharing indeed! This is an amazing find on your way to work. I like their vibrant contrast against the leafless branches in the woods.

Beautiful photos. Spring has SPRUNG.

Yeah, I love this time of year
