Sorry about that Dear Reader, I got a little carried away... I do love me a good metaphor!
I have been weathering a virtual storm of life-stuff this week. Some of it quite serious, some of it merely annoying and timevortexy, you know those times when a 5 minute setback costs you 7.5 hours!!! I also ran in to major crash problems and had to wipe the free-space on my trusty ((or should that be rusty?)) PC. I know that last job doesn't sound all that bad but imagine looking at a countdown that says 3 days and 17 hours and 55 minutes! True story... There were almost tears...
Well let me explain exactly what I am running late for. You may or may not be aware that today is #HivePUD. No, no come back... I haven't gone insane and that's not gibberish, it stands for;
Hive Power-Up Day.
The 1st of the month is #HivePUD day and it is the day we display our faith in this amazing community and the blockchain it sits upon by powering up any hive that we hold in our wallet or that we have purchased ready to grow our stake.
I know what you may be thinking... You thought all this crazy-crypto, interwebs money was for buying Lambo's and private jet's. Not so fast my impetuous, transport coveting friend, let me explain why I am choosing to power up and you can have a think if it's a fit for you too.
- Powering up grows your stake - increasing the vote you reward other with and also the curation rewards you will gain DOUBLE-WIN, Right?
- Powering up helps to create a stable economy, imagine if we all grabbed our rewards, stuffed them in to a loot-bag and headed for the hills, laughing maniacally whilst crying out,
"It's mine ALLLLLL mine!" - Powering up lets others know your intentions here and helps them understand that you are around for the long-term.
- Powering up currently attracts A.P.R which is an incredible added bonus for staking your hive for the future. If you ever wonder about the current rate, it is displayed in the 'Hive Power' section of your wallet and will be communicated as shown below, rate correct as of now.

Powering up feels bloody fantastic! There's nothing better than the feeling of hovering over that magic button knowing you are about to grow in stature and in stake within this amazing community.
Imagine this scenario for a second and I think it will become even more clear...
You are a happy whale with a huge wallet but you are an altruistic, caring whale, who loves nothing more than to mentor others on to the next level. You are swimming from the deep ocean toward the shallower waters looking for a minnow to support. Suddenly you spot two minnows who seem pretty equal in most regards...
Both minnows create pretty good content and have steadily improved over recent months. Both engage well and take an interest in the work of others and even lend a helping hand to the new fry hatching in our waters daily. Both look to have settled in to the community nicely
There is literally only one difference between them.
Minnow ONE has 500 Hive Power and a little spare change in his wallet in case he needs to help someone out or a fee for some opportunity that may happen along at any moment.
Minnow TWO has 100 Hive Power and 400 Hive sitting in his wallet, for what? Who knows? Maybe he is intending to power up at some point soon, or maybe he is planning on not being around for too long.
There could be any number of reasons for the status of Minnow TWO's wallet BUT, if you were the Whale in the scenario I just detailed, who would you be most likely to choose if the wallet was the only distinction between them?
Minnow ONE sure does look like he is geared up to be around for the foreseeable future, right?
Maybe that was a slightly silly overly simple example, but I know that you understand the point I am trying to make. Powering Up says something, ((maybe not everything)) but as an indicator it seems fairly straightforward.
There's one secret handshake style magnificent benefit to powering up that you may not be aware of yet. Let me ask you a question first, are you the sort of person who loves uhm... PRIZES???
Well as if you even needed one more reason to power up, take a look at THIS POST from the awesometastical, community focussed @traciyork ((if you ARE familiar with HivePUD I should mention she has kindly stepped in to the breach and chosen to help @streetstyle out this time around,)) It details a contest of sorts, that offers some pretty amazing prizes for those choosing to power up. Don't misunderstand, there's no way I am likely to win with a powerup from 578HP to 732HP, I am sure many will power up much more, BUT I want to be a part of my first ever HivePUD but not my last...

Ah! We must always try and plod along at whatever pace we are able when the entire universe seems at times to conspire against us.
I find that as the years roll on, often the only satisfaction to be had is when there is a battle to overcome lol. I wonder if I am becoming cantankerous??? One can only hope :D

Love the "we're better together" sentiment, which is one of the reasons I didn't want to see @streetstyle's awesomesauce initiative fall by the wayside, and I appreciate you doing your part to participate and get the word out. Oh you use the word uber gratuitously... Me too! I'm a little amazed that we haven't crossed paths before, I would remember your comment style!!!But no matter, now we have and that is spec-bloody-tacular and bodes well for the future. I love your communitycentric attitude and outlook, I believe that if it reaches a point of 'critical mass' in enough peeps, it is the factor that will take us over the top.
As I said in my post, my power-up will be modest compared to many and isn't likely to see me place BUT this felt like an optimistic, hopeful movement and exactly the sort of thing I want to take part in and support.
Kudos to you for taking charge, ripping apart the rules 'renegade-style' and keeping the ship not just afloat, but sailing! Gah! I was going to try and remain metaphor-free for just one comment... I failed!!!
