Building the absolute imperative

in OCD3 years ago

Go to the people. Live with them. Learn from them. Love them.
Start with what they know. Build with what they have. But with the best
leaders, when the work is done, the task accomplished, the people will
say 'We have done this ourselves".

This quote was mentioned to me by @papilloncharity in a chat, a person who is doing a lot on the ground for people doing it tough. But it was the line of his own that he delivered next that I found both interesting and important:

So, the absolute imperative is to create trust and ownership.

Trust and ownership.

What immediately came to my mind was;

Blockchain and crypto.

In so many ways, it is trust and ownership that have been missing in this world for far too long. As a result, even the very information we make our decisions on is questionable, but decisions we must make - what option is there? We have a world that makes a lot of promises, yet few are kept. And while there is plenty of entitlement, few take the responsibility of ownership.

It is even worse than that, the decisions we have made thus far lead us further away from being able to trust each other, as we have created ourselves as disposable products. Then we are incentivized to sell ourselves for hearts and stars, consuming to make ourselves feel relevant to people who do not know us nor care.

We live long, but live lonely.

I think that the conditions have degraded to the point that "ordinary" people are starting to open their eyes, starting to feel that there is not only something wrong, but that there is a reason for it, even though they do not have the full picture of what it is, let alone what the answer to it all will be.

While the blockchain industry is looking for solid usecase to gain traction and the crypto industry remains an oddity in the financial sector, the call for it is growing - even though those who cry out do not know to whom they cry. From inside these industries looking out, we can see how the technology and the ability to tokenize ownership of everything can return some balance to the distribution of value.

This is more than about money, it is about economy, the fundamental connection that unites us globally in every way that matters. Yes, love might be free, but it is economy that provides for it to grow and spread, to build a family. The development of skills to create goods and services to trade, require connection to trade itself - no man is an island, no person is self-made. It is all about network and without it, there is no humanity at all.

I don't put faith in having a technological solution to all of society's ills, but I also think that it can aid us in rediscovering what is important for us as a community, a community that has grown global, though few want to recognize it as such. We are interconnected in so many ways, but we are blind to all of the tethers, so we do not have visibility on what helps us, nor what stands in our way. We know that there must be a better way, yet we have not discovered it, as we follow the paths of others.

While small and fragmented, I think that slowly we are creeping forward, raising more questions to what currently is and sending out scouts to see if there is another way through. Change is hard, especially when the training to stay the same has been exacted with such strength and precision, sold with such sweetness that it seems that there is no other way but what we have been told.

As said, trust.

We put it in the wrong hands and with it, we place all of what we own in the same hands and hope that the promises made are fulfilled. Though, they never are. The better world promised is one that speaks loudly, while the hands extract all they can.

Change isn't easy, the mindset shift isn't either. But, at the scale needed, it doesn't come about until enough of us make the shift to take ownership - and perhaps the hardest part of it all is trusting that change is possible at all.

If we can prove it by changing ourselves, there is hope for us all.

Everything in this world of ours, the good and the bad.

We have done this ourselves.

Thank you for the mention here Taraz and for your great rewards allocation.

In 2000 I ended up in a very notorious city suburb where murder, drugs, prostitution, rape and robberies were the order of the day. To heal an ill, one has to go to the root of the ill and in this case it was poverty and desperation.

To cut a 17 year story short, I established @papilloncharity and we implemented several upliftment and empowerment projects.
Trust in the community started when the first graduate of our PC training project found a job. All of the projects showed drastic increases and Papillon was humming.
Papillon's fame spread not via advertising but through the powerful medium of "word of mouth".

A desperate community had a sniff at new hope and they took ownership.
One can create miracles with the truth and lies can destroy it all.

We left that suburb two years ago and a local church there continues to run the projects.
In the meantime we have started a new set of projects in the area that we now reside in.
A Luta Continua!

Crypto can most certainly also offer new hope and all that people need is a sniff at it, but of course, truth is an imperative.

Blessings!

You guys are amazing @papilloncharity, I can imagine just how difficult it must be now especially with this pandemic making the poor even poorer! Take care out there!

Thank you Lady Lizzie and you know our country as well as we do and all of the difficulties over the years have taught us how to endure,
Things are bad out there and people are sending prayer requests to radio stations, as they are losing their homes and their cars. No employment and no income.

Blessings and !WINE

Things must be especially bad now with all the wineries closed as well down your way as they must employ many; this virus has caused so much havoc, but I know you are strong and with Marian next to you and your trust and faith in a loving Father, you are indeed able to continue and be a blessing to many!

Thank you so much for your kind words and your confidence in us and our Papillon work Lady @lizelle
Things are bad all over and I am sure also at your end of our coUntry and we have to do what we can.
Another 500 temporary workers have just been discharged at the breweries and we don't know what their families will eat.
Things are hectic, but prayer and effort prevails!

Blessings and have a glass of !WINE

A challenge at the best of times - almost impossible at the worst.

Papillon's fame spread not via advertising but through the powerful medium of "word of mouth".

This is trust-based advertising. Rather than trying to sell, it becomes social-proofing. It is far stronger than an advert.

I get the sense that especially in the poorest places, crypto will offer more than just a way to ear some bread, it will become a way to own life processes, rather than having to rely on the corruption of governments.

Have a great Sunday!

I agree with you and I am looking forward to the sucess of one disadvantaged person here making a success in crypto, as then the flame will spread.

We have started the free coding training project for the senior children at the Imibala school. So soon I will go and do a Hive demonstration there.
Papillon decided to partner with Imibala, as they are also feeding at 24 other poor farm schools, which will give us a wide reach.
We have already given Imibala ZAR 30,000 at the start of this year, that I raised in crowd funding towards the feeding scheme.
So yeah, the trust has materialised.

How can we expect the world to change if we're not willing to change ourselves first, that's where it all starts not so!
Our friend @papilloncharity is an amazing human being, giving and full of wisdom.
I've met some amazing people here on Hive; the spirit of 'lending a helping hand' came to the fore again a fellow foodie and I had difficulty buying Lotus, but then another foodie reached out and went out of her way to guide us through the process. Even though there was a how-to post to follow it's not easy when you're more comfortable behind the cooking pots!
I don't believe this kind of help by a total stranger would be found anywhere else but here on Hive!
Blockchain and crypto certainly is the way forward in this new world of ours!
Lovely post @tarazkp.

I have found the same. As long as one asks with an honest approach, people on Hive are very friendly and helpful, even toward complete strangers. I get the sense that considering how varied the base is, Hive is quite a hospitable space for most people.

Perhaps it is part of the selection bias, but I think a lot of it is down to the people who come here and give it an earnest go, change themselves in some way for the better.

Hive certainly came to my rescue in more ways than one during this Pandemic; not only did my Hive help when we were forced to close our bnb for 3 months during a draconian lockdown, but also being able to talk about stuff close to one's heart plus taking part in various challenges, kept me sane!
Nice chatting @tarazkp!

I think the "keeping sane" part is the bigger win, though the financial help for many is welcomed I am sure. I know quite a few people who have become quite socially despondent in the last year - it is a pity.

100% correct, there were times where I also felt REALLY despondent, but being able to blog here often helped put things into perspective and often a wake up call seeing others less fortunate. Hive certainly has been a lifesaver for many I believe as it has been for me!

it seems that there is no other way but what we have been told

It's always hilarious when you're having conversations about alternatives with people who are so absolutely certain that there cannot possibly be any other way than what there is XD

Or maybe it's just me.

I find it fun too. What is also great, is seeing them realize the alternative later...

I almost cried reading your post and @papilloncharity's comment. Very inspiring words. To be honest I had not read or heard about @papilloncharity. I will be a new follower of this account from now on. I feel that if we all row towards the same goal, we will not only get there faster but we will all win. What cryptocurrencies can do for a person and for a population, I have experienced it in Venezuela. I feel that there are many families committed to Hive, for example, who see the community not only as a platform that generates money, but that gives them the opportunity to advance professionally. I have already seen, through some servers on discord, groups of people getting together to make books, Cd's, games and even charities. We can't wait for others to solve our problems, we can generate that change ourselves. Rather than giving the fish to the hungry, we can teach them how to fish. Beautiful post, @tarazkp. Thanks for sharing and thanks a million for everything.

He does a lot of good work out there and I hope that over time, there will be more crypto support coming :)

@tipu curate :)

Thanks for the post. It resonates well.
