Hello Everyone! Introduction to myself and my Stop Motion projects

in OCD3 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! I am really new to the whole blogging thing and probably would not even be here if @nuthman didn't literally set the whole thing up and hand me the laptop. But here I am! I will try to tell you a little bit about myself and what I do for fun.

He's telling me I should use giant text at the top.

Okay, so I didn't exactly get straight A grades in creative writing, but I will do my best. About me. Hmmmmmm...... Well, I will start with last year. I don't really put stuff that is too personal on the internet (maybe some day), but hopefully this is good enough!

So basically I started off last year making some dollmation videos when I was super bored in the pandemic. I had just gotten the new Billy Eilish Bad Guy doll and had the idea to make some fun videos on TikTok. They ended up becoming really popular so I kind just kept on doing them.

The set for the staircase scene where mecha godzilla is chasing them

After a while I started to get more elaborate with them. One day I was watching TV and I saw the Kong Vs Godzilla commercial and thought, oh wow!! I have got to do that one.

I made these mountains out of styrofoam and brown paper which I glued down with flour and water.

I managed to get the toys from Wal Mart if I remember right, and used other toys and props that I had from the Billie videos. I also borrowed a giant aircraft carrier toy from a friend which REALLY helped a lot.

I made this tent roof from popsicle sticks. All for a 2 second scene!!

This is for when they are standing on the deck watching the craziness outside.

So in my head I thought that this would be harder than the Billie dollmations, but I had no idea that it would take me so long. It was a lot harder than I thought! (So don't give me a hard time if you hate it hahaha)

There were so many small details in the trailer that I had to copy.

There's not a whole lot more to say about myself. I love making animations and trying to get better at it all the time. I hope that you'll come back and check out more of my stuff as I post it on here. Thanks for reading this, and I hope you enjoy my Godzilla vs Kong trailer doll parody!

Here's the whole video:

Sort:

And there it is. One of the coolest Hive posts I've ever seen.

Welcome.

Wow thanks! How am I going to compete with that when I make new posts. haha. I was worried that people wouldn't like it.

I can guarantee some people won't like it. But those aren't the folks you need to focus on. That's just the nature of the beast. Some like, some don't like. No need to impress everyone. Impress yourself first, then others will follow. <--- I think I saw that on a meme once.

I know! I got 17 dislikes on youtube already. You can't please everyone for sure...I will focus on the 777 likes so far :)

I noticed this video could potentially be going viral. Of course you'll get 'haters' and sometimes they simply thumbs down to adjust their algorithm, so they see less of that kind in the future. Could be many reasons, all not worth thinking about.

I'd like to suggest, in the future, placing a link to your blog space here in the video description. That way if you're doing 'making of' posts or something like that, you could lure consumers this way to Hive products and of course your own content. Might even attract some new paying customers/voters. No pressure though. Just something to think about.

Wow! I know, I was impressed this morning when it was like 16k views. Now it is almost 20k. It has been almost doubling every day since I put it up! (To start with, it was more than doubling every day, now a bit less I think)

Oh, good idea on linking to my blog. I will see if I can edit it and add it. People also keep telling me to post it on 3speak. I haven't had a chance to look into that yet.

You could also pin a comment on Youtube to the top of your comment section there with a link to related content leading here. That method typically gets more attention and clicks because you can make it sound exciting in your pinned comment. People don't read video descriptions much. Maybe do that if you're planning to do 'making of' blogs for these videos. Again, just throwing ideas at you. That's a lot of traffic you have the advantage of directing. I see potential.

good call dude... The video is up to 71k views now. Fingers crossed that at least some of them clicked on the hive link.

Those folks who click, provided they're paying attention, might quickly realize, they've entered a new land on the internet, where even the comments pay. But I've been thinking about how useful 'making of' blogs could be for Youtubers as well, since those description slots don't offer much. There's an opportunity here to monetize production time, which typically only costs time and money.

I've not seen the official trailer and now I guess I don't need to. Can you just re-make the whole movie?

That was really good. Have fun on Hive. Lots of creative people here.

!PIZZA

Haha I could make the whole movie if I just gave up on doing anything else for the rest of my life. Thanks for the compliment!

I have a lot of respect for the patience of animators. I like instant results, but sometimes cool stuff requires time.

I’m afraid you’ve spoiled me now... I don’t want to watch any movie trailers unless they’re this... 😆

haha Thank you bryan-imhoff. I have gotten such a good response on youtube (and hopefully on Hive) that I think I'm going to make more of these.

Hey, welcome! Cool work you do. Thanks for the reblog, @steevc :)

Always good to see talented people here. That must have taken a lot of time and effort.

Thank you @pfunk! I love funky music by the way.. hehe

That is incredibly creative of you pal! I love it. @nuthman is a great dude even though I have never met him. Welcome to the community and I look forward to seeing more of your posts!

Thanks bro! Maybe one day we'll meet up at one of these Hive things and have a beer.

Thank you so much @gooddream!! Oh what a sweet little doggie in your profile picture.

Welcome to Hive! This is pretty awesome!

Thank you, creativemary! It was a lot of fun to make.

Holy smokes that video was awesome!!
I can fully appreciate the work, not only the actually movement and stop motion, but the building of sets and consideration of the colours and framing to match perfectly!

Fantastic work. Great to have you on Hive!

Yeah, sometimes it took an hour just to get the lights good enough for a 1 second shot. So much work! It is all worth it when people watch it and really enjoy it, though. Thank you so much!

Big shout out to @nuthman for draggin your ass over here. This is one of the coolest things I've seen here, I'm glad you found the joint.

:attention: All, watch that YouTube clip.

Yeah, @nuthman helps me with a lot of technical stuff. (I probably drive him crazy)

I am glad that you like it. I'm getting such a great response! wow

Loved this sooooo much, great work!! Welcome to Hive, please stay. Can only imagine the hours/days/weeks this must have taken, but it was well worth it, please keep making them. Also agree with the suggestion to add to 3Speak. :)))

Thank you, @kaywoods! I like it here so far but it is a lot to take in. Yes it is so much work!! I am going to look at 3speak asap.

Yes it is a bit of a learning curve - I'm new here myself. Welcome to the community. 😁

Hi @toocutetocare, you were just shared some LUV thanks to @gillianpearce. Having at least 5 LUV in your wallet enables you to give up to 3 LUV per day, for free. See the LUV tokens in your wallet at https://hive-engine.com or learn about LUV at https://peakd.com/@luvshares https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmUptF5k64xBvsQ9B6MjZo1dc2JwvXTWjWJAnyMCtWZxqM

lol I didn't understand any of that but thanks for the 'luv'. This is so complicated

I understand. It took me quite some time and I'm still learning. What helped me...just going to https://hive-engine.com and looking at my wallet and clicking around. I noticed a token or two popping up, then sold one just for practice and staked one just for practice. Then things started making sense. :)

Hello, welcome to hive, beautiful introduction post

Thanks a lot!!😁

if you want a hand just ask, but I'm sure you won't have too much difficulty you seem like a very good user and will have a great future on Hive

Welcome, and good luck with your quest 😎

Thanks andy4475, I am having a lot of fun.

  • My pleasure , a friend of Rick's so you must be impressive 🤣 at what you do!

  • Keep having fun, and the rewards WILL come in time 👍 I'm sure...

That was the most entertaining thing I've watched in a month! Looking forward to more (and I hope you use your new Hive credentials to post them to 3speak.tv)!

Wow, thank you so much! That's a great compliment. I don't know what 3speak.tv is but I'll figure it out.

3speak is basically a YouTube you can log in to with your Hive credentials, much like you can log in to YouTube with your Google credentials. It monetizes content very similar to Hive, so you earn on every upvote instead of waiting to get however many views you need to get on YouTube these days.

Sounds like it could be better than youtube. I can't even enable monetize on yt because I don't have 1000 subs. So stupid! My video has over 18k views so far after 6 days. I hope I can get more subscribers.

YouTube can still be useful for building an audience, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about how far they go out of their way to NOT pay content creators these days.

This is brilliant and what we need on this sometimes rather dry platform! Excellent and a lot of hard work must have gone into it!
You realise that you need to post a tutorial now so we can all have a go!
Best wishes and I can't wait for the next one :-)

A lot of people want a tutorial so perhaps I will make one. Finding the time is hard though! Thank you so much for your compliment. I will post more as soon as I can.

Ohh so happy to see the post finally picking up some deserved rewards too! Excellent :-)

I know! I was really surprised. The video has gotten 10k more views since last night. I am so excited!

That is soooo good. Great start!

Could you do a post about how you actually make your videos? That would really interesting.

I really wish that I had made more videos of me working, but I wasn't thinking about it. I will try on the next one! Thanks for watching it!

Hella cool video.

Thanks for sharing man.

Badass my friend. Looking forward to more!!!

I am going to post more very soon, thank you for watching it.

Sweet! Already gave ya a follow as I thought it was fantastic and creative.

Welcome to Hive! 😊

One of my friends got a few small Godzilla miniatures to proxy for units in his Tyrranids army for Warhammer 40,000. Gaming is where I tend to go miniature, but I know people who build dollhouses, dioramas, and the like. Maybe we should try some stop-motion animation, too.

Yeah, it's a lot of work but also a lot of fun! You should give it a try. The best part for me is trying to make all of the sets and lighting look as real as I can. If you have miniatures that are more posable it's a lot more fun, though. I've learned my lesson about that with toys/dolls that can't pose very well.

Warhammer minis aren't designed to pose at all, although some kits with numerous options are often magnetized by gamers who want the ability to swap for different games.

I don't watch yt vids often, but glad I watched yours.

Well, I guess my mission was accomplished then. Thank you very much.

this was great :)

35mm macro?

Yes! It's the only RF lens that I have so far, I really love it. It has been the most versatile lens I've ever owned. I used it for everything except the scene where Godzilla is plowing through the water toward the ship.

prices of RF lenses :)

haha, I know right?

bought r6 almost 6 months ago, still only have 35mm RF. and it looks like that will not change for some time :)

that said, the lens is really good

That's one of the more entertaining introductions I've read for a while (I can still count them on one hand XD).

And that stop motion trailer was freaking epic.

Nobody that has done stop motion or seen it done before is going to give you a hard time about it because we know it's hard XD

Welcome on board :)

Oh, cool! I am glad you enjoyed it. It was a LOT of work. I learn a lot each time I do one of these. I actually noticed that there are a few other stop motion versions of the trailer online but I think mine is much more detailed. (if I do say so myself.. lol)

Haven't seen/gone looking for any others so I'll take your word for it XD

Are you going to make up stuff too? :D

I want to make my own stuff but am short on ideas. I think I am going to make a bunch of trending stuff because it gets more traction. Then when I have more subscribers I will try being more inventive.

That is one way to do it for sure!

My sibling did that, started off their "career" (posting online, nothing quite as fancy or exciting as working in industry XD) in a popular fandom that they enjoyed and gained a lot of traction pretty quick (something like days or weeks, which I knew would happen even after they dragged me on board just so they could have one follower because they wrongly thought no one else would like their stuff). A year or so later they got some new ideas and started branching out into original stuff (and the endless AUs x_x), the friends made in the fandom generally stayed, people that were just there for the fandom look like they've dropped off, and people gained from traction come and go and they're doing alright now, probably could be better if they could be bothered with such nonsense as reach.

and in fairness to my sibling I think that just kind of happened, you at least have a plan XD

And then there's me who vaguely started off in a very niche fandom with a couple of handfuls of people I knew from a forum, and then quickly spiralled out into my own thing, and just kind of sat doing my thing for about a decade (not an exaggeration) making a new friend here and there, and then I ended up here and after a couple of years there was a slow explosion.

in fairness to me I both work very slowly and don't have a lot of time to work in ^_^;

Guess it depends on how fast you want to go.

Looking forward to your inventive stuff :D

man amazing video! i can only imagine the dedication and time it would take to make that trailer, your work is so brutal! Welcome to hive!

Whew, I was so tired when I finally got finished but wow, it has been worth it. Thanks!!

This video is getting so many views! I just checked and it is over 19k. I don't understand how some people are getting millions of views on their low effort stop motion videos. I think once enough people see it, you will get a lot more subscribers.

😘Thank you for all the help! I just checked again... 29k views... Wow!

Omg damn this is so freaking amazing, Welcome to HIVE!!

Love it! Love stop motion animation and can't wait to see what you get up to here :) Welcome!

Thanks! I'm going to try to post another one soon.

Daaaammnnn. That was amazing. Well done. Thats an awesome introduction post. Awesome post in general for that matter. Welcome

Thanks a lot! I am overwhelmed with the lovely comments.

Fascinating! It's one of my favorite forms of animation ❤️ welcome.

Thank you! I really enjoy it as well.

Awesome. Welcome to Hive. I do stop notions too.... mostly clay and lego. You will make $100,000 here in no time.

That would be amazing! Haha, I could use that money for sure. This intro post is getting a lot more money than I dreamed it would. But I was talking to @nuthman and he said not to expect it on all other posts. But I am happy!

Well ... I earned $ 50,000 USD over on Steemit.com ... just sharing my stop motion movies, artwork and photography ... I’m also on YouTube , HideoutTV, and Blurtter.com .... It adds up quickly .... you will do very well here.

Nice, dude! I am sure it's possible.

Wow. Stunning work. I love seeing creativity like this. I made a 15second stop motion once, on a white background, it took me forrrreveerrrrr.

I can imagine all the effort that went into this (popsicle sticks and all!). And the video editing and audio are great too. So impressive.

(And interestingly, I just posted myself rapping 'Godzilla' by Eminem today... coincidence? Sync? Alternate dimensional influence? lol.)

Anyway, really wonderful. I can see why you've got 44k views on YT already.

Every time I look at the video it has 1000s more views..How exciting, I can't believe it! But you are right, it was a LOT fo work. I was having a great time building the sets and all but about halfway through making it I was like, 'wow! This is really taking a long time'.

But I am a bit of a perfectionist and was being pretty picky about trying get get it close to the actual trailer. Getting moody lighting was especially difficult. You can see how in the real trailer it's quite dynamic and dark in a lot of scenes.

I will look at your rap. hehe funny coincidence.

Yes! I'm so happy that people are viewing your creation. It's definitely exciting. And most consumers have no idea how much work goes into something like this, but hey, as long as you enjoy making it and they enjoy viewing it, all good.

You kept it pretty close to the original trailer, and I imagine you used quite a few lighting tricks (gels? filters? stockings?)

Anyway, very well done, and thanks for taking a look at my rap :) #godzilla coincidence!

You're KILLING IT, @toocutetocare! 71k views last I looked. Looks like it's going viral.

Come on gurl I love your work keep it up, and don't give a fuck if no one likes it just keep doing what you love. You are welcome to hive, you are not in the wrong place at all.
