What It's Like Working for OCD [Happy 2nd Cake Day OCDB!]

in OCD3 years ago

Okay. Take your time. Appreciate that cheap-ass gif I made just for the occasion. 😂

Happy Birthday OCDB!

Hello Hive!

Today marks the 2nd year of @ocdb. This calls for a celebration! For those who live under the rock all this time, @ocdb is the account where delegators can delegate their HP to be used by @ocd for manual curation. The delegators will then receive a daily payout from the curation rewards based on the amount that was delegated. This is run by @acidyo together with the moderators, curators, developers, and community leaders that make up the whole @ocd team.

I am the newest Alien in OCD's Discord. I was promoted a few weeks ago for reasons I don't know. 😂 Maybe because I am involved in all OCD curation initiatives. And by all, I mean I every single curation effort. To think that I have been officially in the team just October last year, maybe I'm just a hustler because I became an Alien in just 6 months.

Before I become part of the team, I have enjoyed the consistent support of OCD. Before there was Curie, and now there's OCD. I mean I am always grateful for the support of the two meritocratic systems that made me believe in Hive. When the future of the previous platform was blurred, I was able to focus on content creation because of the support of OCD.

As an author, I was able to appreciate how the curators were able to find my content and I was always grateful. And now as a curator, I love the job of finding content to recommend for an upvote. I know the feeling of a post going from less than a dollar to two or three digits because it was upvoted by curators. I know that feeling when you saw your post on trending.

I was actually tasked by @acidyo to write a post for OCD on how OCD does its curation process in all of its curation initiatives, but I set that aside because of the mounting compilation posts and of course, because of this post. That post will be for OCD's transparency and accountability to its stakeholders. It's also for authors to be guided on the rules and even nuances of curators in choosing content to be recommended for an upvote. Maybe I'll have that post within the week.

I always say recommended for an upvote because the curators will not be doing the upvote themselves. It was @acidyo who single-handedly upvote hundreds of posts per day. This is for the argument that @acidyo is just sitting pretty while OCD's curators are doing the hard work. No, he's also working hard day and night. He's often buried in curation work that I sometimes remind him he's behind in other curation initiatives.

I now consider curating and managing OCD's curation initiatives as my job and I take it seriously. For those salty people who always say that having a compilation post is just "extra" or unnecessary, I have a vested interest in those compilation posts because I'm the one posting them, except the OCD Daily. And it's not easy. It takes hours.

If you're attacking those compilation posts, you're not only attacking OCD, you're attacking me and I take it personally. If you say curators should not be rewarded for their effort, you haven't tried manual curation. As @minismallholding put it aptly, "If they've got time to post several times a week, then they aren't doing much curation and can afford to do it for free".

OCD Curation and Moderation Work

I was initially part of the OCD Incubation Team where we direct authors to appropriate communities instead of posting in OCD. It was not easy either because some authors got really defensive and attack us instead of being thankful that we are helping them to have their post find an appropriate audience and possibly become appreciated more.

Then I became part of OCD Daily or the original OCD curation, but I don't actively involve myself much in that curation initiative because I was tasked to manage @acidyo's ideas. That's when I got really busy. I think all of the new curation initiatives are his idea and I just execute them. He had this idea and I'll be the one drafting the rules and guidelines before opening it to other curators to fine-tune the whole initiative.

With a lot of new curation initiatives and possibly a lot more incoming depending on the man's idea, I am always busy, but I enjoy doing it. I love to micromanage. I can still do the things I love because I have no specific deadlines, but I take it seriously when the compilation posts are mounting. I don't want to be delayed because it means delayed compensation for the curators.

OCD is not run by a dictator. I'll be the first to leave if that's the case. You'll know me and my principles if you see my tweets. I'm always for a democratic, fair, and transparent process. And that's what I see in OCD. Ideas and opinions are always open that discussions are heated at some points, but in the end, a common ground is always reached.

OCD Curation Initiatives

I already talked about OCD Daily so I won't give much detail on that because I'm not really that involved except in occasional dropping of posts there for an upvote. Just wait for the OCD post because I'll be detailing the whole curation process there.

The next is OCD POSH Curation. I think this is the first initiative where I got really serious. When I noticed the number of posh links kept on increasing, we added @traciyork to the mix to provide a new perspective as well as fresh eyes on poshed content. We thought she's fit for the job knowing her overwhelming presence and reach on Twitter. That woman is relentless! So far, I love our dynamics. Her personality is so fit for the job. This initiative is the most lucrative for me compensation wise, but it's not easy checking 150+ posts per day.

The third initiative is the OCD Contest Highlighting Communities. This is just once a week, but I think this is the riskiest for me since I'm the beneficiary of the rewards and I'll be distributing them to the winners. I have to be very careful in setting beneficiaries as well as sending the rewards to the winners or else, I'll end up compensating them from my own pocket. This is always in coordination with the community leaders. I initially involved myself in curation, but I give them the liberty to curate as they're more suited for it. I can also focus on other curation work without worrying much about the curation of the contest.

I ignored @acidyo for months regarding the contest because I couldn't think of a good mechanism especially in rewarding the winners. He always mentioned about having a contest that would highlight communities, but I know I would be the one facilitating them so I set it aside for months until I was ready. I didn't expect that the response was that big. I mean we're talking about 3 to 4 digits percentage change in subscribers and engagements!

The announcement of winners was supposed to be my compensation for facilitating the contest. To be clear, I wasn't mandated to share the rewards as it was said that the increase in subscribers and engagements in the community is already enough for the community leaders, but I decided to share them with the community leaders especially with those actively involved in the curation. It's always fun facilitating those contests.

The fourth initiative is the Other Niche Communities Curation Support. This is somewhat similar to OCD Daily, but the community leaders are also involved. They will just drop posts from different niche communities outside the OCD Community Incubation Program and I'll be the one compiling them. The rewards of the compilation post will be split to the curators, which I included as the one compiling the post. Its purpose is to promote other communities and also encourage authors to post in appropriate communities.

The latest curation initiative is @lovesniper. It aims to reward introduction posts. It's the most tedious of all initiatives, but also most rewarding for me. Not compensation wise, but I can feel the effect of the rewards on the newbies. I mean 90% of the newbies' introduction posts are not really rewarded. My intro post before was $0.04. Having a couple of dollars on the intro post will really make a difference to those newbies as it sets an impression about the platform itself. It means there's someone who cares about their first or intro posts.

I'm really grateful for the commitment of those six other curators who are involved in @lovesniper as the job is not really easy. We are talking about hours and hours of curation time per week just to comment as well as recommend the intro posts for curation. For me, this is the most fulfilling curation initiative so far. To those salty and myopic people out there who criticized @lovesniper's rewards, try commenting on all of the first and intro posts for a day.

The last and perhaps the biggest curation effort is the Community Incubation Program. OCD is currently supporting 30 niche communities. Just imagine the number of posts that needs to be upvoted per day. The average number of posts recommended per community is about 5. That's 150 posts per day on average! And we're planning to add more!

I am actively curating for Haveyoubeenhere community under the incubation program since I'm also a @pinmapple curator. Sometimes I curate for Toys on Hive and one time I tried curating for The Anime Realm community. Now I basically dropped posts in different communities, but only in those I'm confident to be curating. For art like Alien Art Hive and On Chain Art and architecture like Architecture & Design community, I leave them to the community leaders who are well suited to curate.

What It's Like to Work in OCD?

It's tiring but rewarding. As I execute most of @acidyo's ideas, I have to be on top of things. I also have to be present virtually all the time. From coordinating different curators from different time zones to answering questions and clarifications, I had to be there.

I witnessed all kinds of drama, both internal and external. I was even involved in some of them, but at the end of the day, it's fulfilling work. It's not always appreciated, but it's fulfilling work. Sometimes I get pestered by questions about why they're banned from the server when they clearly violated the rules and didn't heed the countless warnings.

I thank @acidyo for the trust! A few times I accidentally voted a post thinking it was my account, but I really haven't logged out @ocd's account after posting the compilation. He never bossed me around. Most of the time I consult him regarding curation rules and dynamics, but he trusted me on many changes implemented especially on the contest.

Lastly, I may be busy most of the time, but I can still do the things I wanted to do without getting hungry. I can now afford the things I only dreamed of before. Not everything though. 😂

I'll just leave you this tweet from last month:

You are the best Kim! The dedication and effort you put into OCD is amazing. You are always there for us, if we have any questions, you are there, that's awesome. I have not been someone who has worked a lot of jobs, but I have seen a lot of people work, and I have never seen someone who was as good and did the job as well as you do. You may think I'm joking or being nice, but I'm being sincere. You guys are amazing to work with, I don't know how long it will last, but I don't want it to end. Keep it up!

Thanks Perce! 😉
You guys are fun to work with so I feel like I'm not working. You've been doing a great job at Hive Gaming and even at Love Sniper.

Thanks for everything @ybanezkim26, @acidyo, and everyone working behind the scenes at @ocdb!

I left Steemit a year before the fork and when I came back to Hive it was a whole different ballgame. At first I was looking for the vote-sellers and wondering what whales I needed to try and get the attention of. That's how it used to be, it didn't matter if you posted good stuff, you just had to know the right tricks to get rewarded.

But now I just focus on making halfway decent content in the appropriate communities and I'm getting way more rewards than I ever got on Steem. It's such a breath of fresh air to see Hive perform the way it was originally intended. More people being rewarded for good content, curation, and engagement. And less people being rewarded for playing secret whale-games.

You all are doing so much to encourage community growth and it's appreciated.

I have seen your awesome posts as I have been curating pinmapple and Haveyoubeenhere and I can say you're on the right track. Your posts are awesome!

Yay to cake day! A pat on the back to @acidyo and the whole team!

Amazing what all of you guys with OCD have been doing. The (positive!) impact on those people, often newbies, whose hard worked posts would otherwise be unnoticed, earning just a few cents, is tremendous and it helps so much with retention on Hive. You guys are some of the people who really makes this chain a better place. Thank you. And thank you Kim for sharing this unique insight into the backstage with us. Only confirmed my assumptions of how hard and dedicated work it actually is. You are awesome.

Thanks, man! You're also one of the people here who continued to make a positive impact on the chain. Let's grow and prosper together! Forward and up!

Kim you Rock! Acid Rocks! The team Rocks! OCD IS THE PLACE TO BE! 😄

For real I admire how dedicated you’ve been and all the work you do doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.

We all know as a team how much work it takes and what all goes into what we do. I am really grateful to be apart of it all! It is truly rewarding. 😆

Happy 2nd Birthday OCDB! 🥳🤩

Thanks, @crosheille! I'm so happy to have someone like you in the team.

☺️🤗

I could already imagine how stressful it is for you, it's truly not easy curating content manually and when there's a lot to do. Wishing you strength and good health and a Happy birthday to ocd community

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the well wishes! Thank you!

Always welcome Sir

I remember creating my account flaws here at the time of bid-bots and when crypto were in a bear season, I don't think I could have

And, in those horrible times, I still remember OCD always being there, when I started here I was never a user that did much community and despite that, I always saw them, isn't this enough of a sign of determination? I mean, despite the bad situation, OCD has always been here, and really it would be amazing to see OCD when Hive reaches the top.

I don't know you very well, but judging by the opinions that have been given about you and in what we have interacted you look like a person who puts in a complete effort, I am glad to have seen this post of yours in a more personal way describing your work at OCD, I hope you can be here a lot longer. Congratulations on your unexpected promotion! (although it's been about 1-2 weeks since then)

I always put my best in everything that I like to do. I'm also tenacious so expect me to be here for a long time. I didn't quit when most of my friends before had stopped. It felt so lonely, but I continued posting. So I'll stay in Hive for long.

Its a significant day.

What an awesome work the team is doing.

shit, I upvoted your comment thinking it was to go up, but life is not always the way we want it to be

😂😂🤣

One day bro, one day.

You'd upvote me just 10% and I'd be rich 😁

Thanks!

Congrats on the recent promotion. It sounds like you moved up the ladder quickly. And thanks for the info on how things work at ocd. I appreciate all the work you do and the support from you and the ocd team. Keep it up and happy birthday ocd.

Thank you! 😊😊😊
I also noticed I moved up quickly, but acidyo was the one who kept on asking when I would resign from my previous job so that I can work for OCD full time.

I'll still draft a post on details of each curation initiative especially on the rules we abide as curators. It's a lot of work, but I enjoy every bit of it.

Bit by bit I am getting a grip on the Hive and I have to say that curating in a serious manner is indeed a lot of work. I am reading several posts a day and to find the good ones among the not so good ones takes time.

I'm picking posts here and there to learn about the things on Hive, finding ones that are helpful in explaining is not so easy either lol.

So without being a slimy ass creeper I can say that you guys are doing a good job, as far as I can tell. Esp when picking my posts...😂 just kidding...seriously for all reading, I'm just kidding.

Putting content together that is somewhat of value is hard work as well and not made in a blink of an eye. I can tell. I'm either slow or just trying to hold the little bit of standard up I put myself upon when joining the online world 5 month ago, but writing a post takes time.

🤔 Anything else I wanna mention now? Nope, gotta take out Joy now...Have a good one 😁

We curators often disagree on what we regard as quality content, but we all agree that a quality content has effort. Writing a post takes time and effort and we can see effort in a post based on experience. When your post is upvoted by OCD, it means a curator find value in it.

I can imagine you have discussions lol. I'm always glad if someone likes what I throw in da Hive, curator or not.

Happy Cake Day, @ocd! You did a great job and the OCD team. I appreciate how much work you put into curation and the support you are giving to the communities. 150 post a day is a lot. OCD are doing a great job boosting the communities and creators.

Thank you! It feels like playing tho. I just have to take it seriously because of the schedules and compilations to post. I enjoy every bit of the work.

Happy Birthday, OCD!

Congratulations on your new promotion! I can't imagine how many articles you read per day with all the curation going on, it must be tiring. But at least you're having fun, which is really important when it comes to work.

Thank you so much for all your initiatives and support OCD and team!

Thanks! You won't really feel you're working when you're having fun. And I'm glad I earned the trust associated with this position.

You're welcome! I'm glad you found something that works well with you! Keep it up!

I only recently started interacting with @acidyo. Man's cool. I thought he might be a stuck up rich guy but turns out he's a really cool guy. I tell him that he's bad regularly.

He's a troll. That's for sure. That's why I don't take everything he says seriously even when he's serious or angry. 🙈

This is way too much text considering all the work you've got to do.

All I took from this is that I'm not dictatorish enough, noted.

Shut up and upvote those in #everything-posh! You're two days behind. 😁

Please no ser! I have palm fruits to buy! 🙏

Wow, I did not know that @acidyo was someone so important around here, I see that he has worked hard for the welfare of the community. I recently read something that made me think that around here the articles receive rewards according to the quality of their content, that means that they must have a method or tabulator to make these measurements, if that is the case and there is something written somewhere I would like to please provide me with the link, I am interested in knowing what is valued to determine that an article is good and worthy of being seen.

I was tasked to manage @acidyo's ideas

Interesting. What are his fantasies? and how do you manage them?

I witnessed all kinds of drama, both internal and external.

I heard there's a mushroom behind some of the drama. Are the rumors true?

He never bossed me around.

Reply to this comment twice if you are in danger. Blink once if no.

The only danger he's in is falling for me. 😇

Excuse me? I won't fall for a Pokemon. Last time I checked, I still want humans.

Interesting. What are his fantasies? and how do you manage them?

Not in my job description. I guess @hiddenblade is up for that job. 😂

I heard there's a mushroom behind some of the drama. Are the rumors true?

It's not a rumor. There's a mushroom instigator there and I love it.

Reply to this comment twice if you are in danger. Blink once if no.

He has foot fetish

Whut? 😱 Some simps will now send their foot photos. 😂

That woman is relentless!

I think you meant to say, "That woman is a relentless nag!" 🤣

Seriously though, awesome summary of the crazy amount of amazing work you do for the @ocd community. I'm super psyched about how well the twitter-posh and Love Sniper initiatives are going - yes, it's a ton of work, but it's to the point my family is putting my face on a milk cartoon also wicked enjoyable, thanks to the people I work with. You guys & gals ROCK!

Oh, and...

Yeah! I forgot the nagging part. I love it tho. Cause I tend to be forgetful sometimes.

Happy Birthday OCDB, you guys are doing a great job. I know how much hard work the team does for this community...

Thank you! 🥺🥺🥺

Happy birthday @ocdb! Congratulations to the team for making it this far. 😁

Thanks girl!

You are an alien! Doing a hard job, I know it's tiring but you are doing great! I'm curious did you sleep well, lol.

Sometimes I don't sleep because my compilations posts will haunt me in my sleep 😂

It's not always appreciated, but it's fulfilling work.

You've been an alien Mac for years. This must be the reason why. 😄

Congratulations on your promotion Kim! 🥳🎉 All of you guys (curators, moderators and @acidyo) are doing a great job!

Happy Birthday OCDB! Thank you for so much support to the communities!! I wish you a lot of success!

Thank you! I still don't know what an alien would do tho. I think it's just for prestige. I still haven't received my advantage card that's related to the title. 😂

Don't underestimate yourself, from what I've read you've worked hard, so celebrate your achievement and keep up the good work! 😜

All the work done by @ocdb and the whole OCD team is excellent. Hive Motors was recently included in the incubation project and we have seen all the work they do, congratulations and cheers for the years to come!

Welcome to the team! We'll have your community to highlight in the coming weeks.

Okay, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks

Hello friend, great job, but you have to be exhausted, I love how you are healing and it seems like a very important job, especially that it is manual and not because of friendships or anything like that.
Thanks for all the support
I congratulate you and wish you a happy day

I'm not exhausted at all, at least for now. I'm enjoying the job. And you're right, I don't curate just because we're friends. I judge based on quality and engagement.

😘🌈🌹

Thank you @ocdb and happy birthday! Without initiatives like this, Hive wouldn't be that great.

Hi Kim, now catching up on reading as soon as I clocked out for the weekend. Well done to the entire OCD team and congrats! It's not easy curating and preparing compilation and reports.

Thanks, Arni! It's really not easy because I have to be thorough especially during setting of beneficiaries. One wrong move and I'll be setting a wrong beneficiary. 😄

Oh my, yes, very delicate transactions. I can't imagine myself tinkering with such with ease, haha. Wishing you a relaxing weekend.

Keep on whining about the downvote. You'll invite more downvote in the process. The problem with you people is that you thought the potential rewards are already yours even when they're not yet on payout. Before the payout on the 7th day, the potential reward still belongs to the reward pool. As one whale can allocate that reward to you, another whale can take it away.

Addendum: It's not censorship. It's merely reward distribution mechanism.

Fuck of loser

Chill out man. It’s nothing personal. I’m just returning rewards to the Pool.

Stop spamming you spammer! You're a waste of space! 😂 Go to Blurt or wherever you feel you belong. I just find it do funny that you are so against Hive and yet you're still here. Let me guess, no, I'm sure you earn here more than anywhere else even with your garbage. There. I said it. Don't try to mess with me because I'm willing to go down to your level.

It’s nothing personal my good brother. Chill the Fuck out.

We're not brothers and I'm not good. You're messing with the wrong turf. If you'll continue to get into my nerves, I'll make sure that you won't get any cent from Hive again. Your history says a lot about you. Seems you abused a lot. 🤔

It’s nothing personal. I’m just sending rewards back to the pool.

Can say the same from here on.

Yes. We work for the same team my good brother. I am just here to reduce posts that are over rewarded on the Trending page....

I have been sent here by God to fix hive. Too many posts on Trending are getting votes too big. We are working for the same guy bro.

Oh no. You are going to make him sad and he will have to make a post about how mean you are.

No one is whining about downvotes from you. If you have free downvote mana, you can always use them on me. I don’t give a shit.

Of a truth OCD work is the most tedious of all. When I hear or see people complaining about how OCD team aren't rewarding them or their post isn't rewarded as it should be or they feel it should be, It saddens me at times because I just imagine how many we are on the platform and going about upvoting and rewarding quality contents or articles isn't an easy task or thing to do.
If 300 people here make quality article, some of which are two articles per person, I wonder how they expect the team to split themselves and go about reading and rewarding 300+ articles in a day, it doesn't work that way. Its not magic.

Like I always say, they should continue doing their thing, making quality post and engaging with the community and certainly one day, they will be lucky that a curator finds their post if they adhere to all rules and regulations of the community and platform.

OCD Team is doing really great and doing their best to award every user here. And from all the curation initiative you have mentioned, I don't think there is any that has close to 10 members or curators yet you guys are putting in the efforts and doing all you can to stay true.
I applaud the team for all the hard work and efforts.

Thank you for your sentiment! This keeps me going as a curator.
