Exploring the Japanese Shipwreck of Malapascua Island

Hello everyone!

Welcome to another freediving video! I've been to Malapascua Island about three times already and for the first two vacations we had on the island, I wasn't able to take videos of the shipwreck that made the island famous aside from the white beaches. I made a promise in my previous posts about the island that I'll definitely go back and explore the Japanese shipwreck, and then share them with you. Here it is!

@indayclara already shared her video, so I guess it's my turn. Visibility was not good at that time, but we didn't have a choice. It was still a fun dive. The shipwreck is only about 6 meters below the surface and it's near the lighthouse of the island. Depending on the season and current, there are times that the sand underwater gets disturbed, so it's inevitable to have poor visibility.

According to the guides, the shipwreck was from a Japanese ship that sunk during World War II. Due to the age of the shipwreck, what's left was basically the hull of the ship and it will not be long before everything's taken over by corals. If you happen to visit Cebu, I recommend to visit Malapascua Island and see the shipwreck for yourself before it will completely disintegrate.

I thought you were swimming with oxygen because of how deep you can see in the video, but when I read I realized it was apnea, Wuaoo tremendous lungs, I congratulate you, I have never dived, it is one of the things I want to do before I die, I already have it on my list.

Thanks for sharing your adventure with me @ybanezkim26

It's just 6 meters. It's not too deep. Freediving is also in my list and I'm so happy I've got to do it now. It's definitely worth a try.

hahaha I'm five feet tall, after that for me it's deep, I try to dive but the water pulls me out, that is when I want to go deep it pulls me to the surface and when I don't want to it sinks me.

I learned to swim in the pool for diving, I still do not dare to swim in the sea.

😂 This is so true for me before! You sink when you don't want to and float when you want to sink. It takes practice, but eventually, everything can be learned. I drowned 3x and almost died on the first. It never stopped me though.

😲 What nice words that's inspiring. 👏 🥰🤗

An absolutely amazing adventure. You are living the life! Congrats to you for getting to do what you love in the water.

Thank you! Thanks to Hive I'm living the life that I wanted. It's not perfect, but it's definitely the one I envisioned to be. To live on my own terms.

You and me both, we are lucky.

OMG amazing!! I really really want to dive again! It was one of the experiences of my life! Thanks a lot for sharing this!

Wow. Amazing! I have visited the island (it is sooooo beautiful!!!!) But I never got to learn the rich history. And I've never dived (too scared).

Truly inspiring. I hope to visit it one day.

Thanks! 😁

That is fantastic and I loved the musicc that accompanied your dive. I love freediving too although I have not done it for a few years. Cebu really is amazing and it seems to have everything! Being a fellow Chemical Engineer it seems we like to travel!
Have a great week, and thanks for sharing your dive, I need to go and see the one from indayclara now!

Thank you! Cebu indeed has everything.

Oh! Hello fellow chemical engineer! Although I haven't been practicing for almost 2 years now.

oo it appears so, and hopefully starting to recover from Odette.
Ah yes I moved into Projet Management, it was easier to travel the world and get jobs as a Projects Engineer/Manager than a Chemical Engineer, so yep I have not practised for quite a lot longer than 2 years 🤣

That must have been so exciting! And it made me think of one of my more recent stories too, a fictional one 🙌 Did you plan to go again, when visibility is better?

Not in the near future. I've been in the island many times already, so I will visit again maybe next year.

Oh, then you are planning other adventures instead for this year???

I'll go back to Palawan later today. 😄 And then I'll climb Mt. Apo by the end of the month. After that, I will rest for a few months.

Rest?!?! But that's boring 🤣🤣🤣

I hope you are having a wonderful time right now :)
