Indonesian architecture through my camera

Hi there,

I am happy to see this community growing and getting first members writing decent posts…
Firstly I found this community advertised, if I can use this expression, by @storiesoferne couple of months ago. Erne is stopping by at every my post and leaving a constructive comment as well. I am to have follower like him! I remember once, he invited me to do a post in the community. That had to be before two, three months and if I am not mistaken I promised him I will do that. At that time, I was writing from my Dubai trip and as Dubai is known to be architectural gem it is not a coincidence that he came up with an idea. Anyway I didn’t decide for Dubai today, but for something else; different kind of architecture.
I have to admit, I don’t have any knowledge about architecture, just like to observe it. Taking architecture into account when planning my travel is one of primary things when picking destination. Sometimes I decide to go out architecture in the wild, like Africa, other time architecture is in first plan when going somewhere in Europe for example. There you study every bridge, church, how the city center looks like, modern part of the city, etc. The most common way with me is combination of both, nature and some architectural note on some days. That was the case with my travel in Indonesia back in 2017 as well. I did a lot of my activities in nature and a lot was shared from this part already, but I did saw a lot of interesting buildings as well. Some of them are typical for this country, some are very different from region to region and the others are World class architecture also under different Heritage programs. With the last written I mean Borobudur temple which is World famous and it really makes impression on you. As far as I know it was built around 8th or 9th century. They used mostly stone and there was a lot of it necessary to build the largest Buddhist Temple in the World. I am sure construction was interesting, but I don’t know much more. Maybe somebody else from the community will know more and I would be happy to read it in the comment section below.

Let that be enough written for today. Those who know me already know that I am better expressing myself through photos than writing :)

Before photos I would just like to say hello to @discoveringarni. Everywhere you are, something good will happen, so wish you all the best running the community. I am sure you two are the right two persons and there is bright future ahead Architecture and Design.

Hello @crazy-andy! It’s our pleasure to welcome you to the Architecture+Design Community! Thank you for publishing your first post to this tribe as your magnificent photo collections are always a welcome addition here. Feel at home and we are grateful to you for supporting us!

Thank you for your warm welcome.
I didn't expect nothing less from you guys...

I am sure I will find some other interesting material in my archive and will give an extra look to everything connected with architecture on my future travels.

See you soon!

As always, it’s with tremendous joy that I read and engage with your amazing posts! The Architecture+Design Community is truly excited to welcome you as well as your first publication with us. You’ve been our faithful supporter since Day 1. With that we are really grateful!

All the best to the purchase of your new home. I’m looking forward to viewing your photo collections about it. Again, many thanks Andy! 😊

Ohhh I am honoured with welcome like this. I am feeling like a king! Thank you for that.

I will do my best to keep my work present in your community. You can count me in with supporting good content published in it.

I hope everything will turn as it should with buying new home and I will do a photo session that you will be able to tell if I made a right decision buying :)

Whoa! How many times have you visited Indonesia? You've been to North Sumatra, it's a neighbor of the province of Aceh where I live. If one day you visit Indonesia again, you must come to Aceh. There are many tourist destinations that you can visit here, such as Sabang island, Simeuleu island, or Gayo which is famous for its worldwide coffee.

I have been in Indonesia just once. But I travelled big part of it. Well Aceh was not included unfortunately. The closest to you, I was in Bukit Lawang.
I would be happy to visit you if I would know you then. I am sure Aceh has a lot to offer. There are many of you here on Hive only that I know. Keep up your great work!

I'm elated to see your post in the community! Wow, you've been there! My encounter with Borobudur Temple was in thick architectural books. We were asked to draw it and study its form and detail as part of the History of Architecture classes. I'd love to visit one day. Thank you for sharing the many different types of traditional or vernacular houses and the waste management problem that we all need to address.

Thank you very much for your lovely well wishes 😊

You should visit there! but after hundredth visits, it lost its charm on me :D nowadays I am finding the right time to explore the terracota ancient architectures. This one below is typical architecture in Borobudur and Prambanan area.

Wow hundreds visits... You are blessed :)
Definitely awesome architecture!

My family house is 10 minutes from that place :D

My family house is about 15 hours flying from that place, but hopefully I will be back to revisit :)

Have a great day!

There are more great temples out there other than the one in Magelang, Yogyakarta, and Bali. I once took a full day archeological tour to temples around Borobudur and nearby whilst learning about the history, the architectural design, symbolism, and the modern problem of these ancient architecture. It was pretty interesting. If you could visit again, I hope you could find this type of tour.

Have a great day!

Thank you, I am noting these great info down.

Hi @macchiata, I agree with @crazy-andy, so blessed 😊 wow hundredth visits.. Indonesia is a country in our travel wish list.

Well I really feel welcomed here :)
I will definitely make some other post to the community as well...

I would say that visiting Borobudur means a lot for someone like you which is strongly connected with architecture.
As I wrote, I don't know much about it and I am not familiar will all the building technques used etc. I just visited the place and admire it with my eyes. Truly special place.

Hope you will be able to visit Borobudur once and study it at your point of view.

Have a great day Arni!

I am sure Borobudur Temple has left an impression on you. That's the beauty of architecture, to make each of us experience something unusual that we would always remember whatever our field of expertise is. I am certain you'll like the next contest topic. 😊

बहुत सुंदर फोटोज़ 👌👌👌🤩

Hmmm don't understand the language, but I am sure you wrote something nice :)

Yes absutali . I mean very beautiful pictures

Your first publication is not so bad and those images are really cool.
The first time I knew about this community or even come across it is when I read a post from @discoveringarni. And she sure deserves that mention from you
I guess its time to check out that community and know what is required and explore as well.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment.
I try my best to share quality posts...
I didn't know how it will all turn out as I don't have knowledge about architecture. I thought community is searching more of an experts on this fields, but looks like regular person side of view is also OK :)

I am happy to see more activity in the community and as I said I will be back...

Lol. It still seems complex to me though and I don't think I can take it up even if I wanted to.
I know you will be back for sure😊

Never seen a roof like this before\

The collection turned out to be interesting, thanks :)

Me too.
Probably my neighbours would give me a strange look of I would do renovation and include roof like that :)

I like this roof, it is somewhat reminiscent of an old sailboat :Р
Akhtersteven - Lol

Amazing photos! You are lucky to get to see such old wonders must have been fun to visit and photograph. The villages look humble but relaxing. It looks so different from life here in North America. Thanks for sharing this gem :)

Thank you very much for your kind words and for stopping by!
You are right about me being lucky. Visiting a place like that is special. Knowing that it is the largest Buddhist Temple on Earth.

Whole culture in Indonesia is much different than N. America or Europe. That is why I like to choose that kind of destinations now and then :)

Have a good one...

Asia countries have so much beautiful architect to offer in old and new and you have a great collection i can't wait till these vaccinations to been given around the world so we all can start traveling again and Thailand will be first destination for me to visit all these great history of temples.

Travel should be boom again in second half of 2021. I am sure we are getting to the end of this f*** pandemic...

Nice choice. I think Thailand has a lot of different things to offer and prices are reasonable.

Let's hope so i will be looking forward to a bit of travel...have a great week my friend 👍
