Our dear Colonia Tovar, a German corner to the north-east of the Aragua state in Venezuela, is a picturesque town very famous for maintaining the German culture that had its origins thanks to a group of German immigrants during the government of José Antonio Páez. All within the framework of the governmental approach of the Caudillo who was open to economic opportunities through the founding of towns that represented European areas, in this case German, to develop agriculture and mining.
This beautiful town is on a very rugged geography, the Cordillera de la Costa, so it is surrounded by a mountainous relief where the landscapes stand out characteristic with this topography. Colonia Tovar is a place with a cold climate, which also attracts visitors, in addition to favoring agriculture due to its great variety of crops. I cannot fail to emphasize the kindness of its people and the architecture of its houses, all of this adds reasons for the town to be synonymous with tourism.
Inappropriate urbanism
But, I have not come to tell you about its history, nor about its political data. I have really come to highlight an aspect of its development and its influence on the landscape or natural environment that is one of the attractions of the area. This so-called development or rather urbanism, has been happening with greater debauchery for approximately 15 years. Today I speak based on my observation and not on data from official records. Well, my experience in the place is enough for me due to the frequent visits to this area of the Aragonese entity.
Nuestra querida Colonia Tovar, un rincón alemán al norte-este del estado Aragua en Venezuela, es un pueblo pintoresco muy famoso por mantener la cultura alemana que tuvo sus orígenes gracias a un grupo de inmigrantes alemanes durante el gobierno de José Antonio Páez. Todo en el marco del planteamiento gubernamental del Caudillo quien se mostró abierto a las oportunidades económicas a través de la fundación de poblados que representaran zonas europeas, en este caso alemana, para desarrollar la agricultura y la minería.
Este bello pueblo está sobre en una geografía muy accidentada, la Cordillera de la Costa, por lo que está rodeado de un relieve montañoso donde sobresalen los paisajes característicos con esta topografía. La Colonia Tovar es un lugar con un clima frío, lo que también atrae a los visitantes, además de favorecer agricultura por su gran variedad de cultivos. No puedo dejar de destacar la amabilidad de su gente y la arquitectura de sus casas, todo esto suma razones para que la localidad sea sinónimo de turismo.
Urbanismo inapropiado
Pero, no he venido para hablarles de su historia, ni de sus datos políticos. Realmente he venido para resaltar un aspecto de su desarrollo y su influencia en el paisaje o medio ambiente natural que es uno de los atractivos de la zona. Este llamado desarrollo o mejor dicho urbanismo, ha estado sucediendo con mayor desenfreno desde aproximadamente 15 años. Hoy hablo en base a mi observación y no a datos de registros oficiales. Pues mi experiencia en el lugar me basta por las frecuentes visitas a esta zona de la entidad aragueña.
I already mentioned that the natural landscape is one of the attractions when visiting Colonia Tovar, because it is in a mountainous area with very beautiful views. This combined with the houses among the extensive green and colorful spaces give the magical feeling of being in a paradise in Venezuela.
Its architecture is really the first attraction that announces that you have arrived, its houses, shops, inns and other buildings, try to preserve the designs in the Alpine style of their Germanic culture with typical structures. This has prevailed from generation to generation and must continue in the midst of the avalanche of constructions due to the arrival of new settlers from other neighboring sectors.
Ya les mencioné que el paisaje natural es uno de los atrayentes al visitar la Colonia Tovar, por estar en una zona montañosa con vistas muy bellas. Esto combinado con los casas entre los extensos espacios verdes y coloridos dan la mágica sensación de estar en un paraíso en Venezuela.
Su arquitectura es realmente el primer atractivo que anuncia que has llegado a ella, sus viviendas, tiendas, posadas y demás edificaciones, intentan conservar los diseños al estilo alpino de su cultura germana con estructuras típicas. Esta ha prevalecido de generación en generación y debe seguir en medio de la avalancha de construcciones por causa de la llegada de nuevos pobladores provenientes de otros sectores aledaños.
The fascinating German architecture is admired by tourists and it is a shame to be missed by the overpopulation alien to German culture. Despite all this new disorganized urbanism, architecture has been a well-protected heritage still by the new German generations, although other foreign trends emerge from the place, there are those who ensure compliance with the legal provisions that protect the cultural heritage of Colonia Tovar .
La fascinante arquitectura alemana es admirada por los turistas y es una pena que se pierda por la sobrepoblación ajena a la cultura alemana. A pesar de todo este nuevo urbanismo desorganizado, la arquitectura ha sido un patrimonio bien protegido aún por las nuevas generaciones alemanas, aunque surjan otras tendencias forasteras del lugar, hay quienes velan el cumplimiento de las disposiciones legales que resguardan el patrimonio cultural de la Colonia Tovar.
Environmental impact
Another aspect that affects this so-called development is ecological damage. And it is a duty to avoid anything that can harm nature. The environmental impact that affects the soil, water, air, vegetation and fauna, is not being taken into account by those who settle in this territory, affecting the streams, streams and all the elements and resources that make up the natural landscape. . Among the damages is what humans do with great skill: generate waste and accumulate garbage.
Impacto ambiental
Otro aspecto, que afecta este mal llamado desarrollo es el daño ecológico. Y es un deber evitar todo lo que pueda causar perjuicio a la naturaleza. El impacto ambiental que afecta el suelo, el agua, el aire, la vegetación y la fauna, no está siendo tomado en cuenta por quienes se establecen en este territorio afectando los riachuelos, las quebradas y todos los elementos y recursos que componen el paisaje natural. Entre los daños está lo que el humano hace con gran destreza: generar desechos y acumular basura.

Pollution and environmental degradation must be taken seriously when planning sustainable development policies. Some may get tired of reading and hearing about this, but one cannot speak of integral development if the problems derived from pollution and environmental degradation are not addressed.
The excessive growth of the population brings with it contamination and exploitation of resources that seriously alter ecosystems and put life at risk.
Es muy importante evitar las edificaciones sin un verdadero control y sin ningún cumplimiento de las normativas para construcciones sobre terrenos con las características propias de esta zona montañosa. Lo que, además de ser un peligro y romper con el atractivo alemán, rompe el equilibrio ecológico.
La contaminación y la degradación del medio ambiente deben tomarse en serio para planificar políticas de desarrollo sustentable. Quizás algunos se cansen de leer y oír sobre esto, pero no se puede hablar de desarrollo integral si no se atienden los problemas derivados de la contaminación y la degradación ambiental.
El crecimiento desmedido de la población trae consigo contaminación y explotación de los recursos que alteran de forma grave los ecosistemas y ponen en riesgo la vida.
It depends on the conscience of the tourists, the new inhabitants who are actually foreigners and the authorities that lead in the municipality that we continue to enjoy the beauty, culture, commerce and controlled development of Colonia Tovar. This is a population so protected for almost 200 years, where the German descendants who live in this little piece of Venezuela, continue to give their best so that this beautiful ecosystem prevails.
De la conciencia de los turistas, de los nuevos habitantes que son en realidad foráneos y de las autoridades que lideran en el municipio depende que sigamos disfrutando de la belleza, cultura, comercio y desarrollo controlado de la Colonia Tovar. Esta es una población tan protegida por casi 200 años, donde los descendientes alemanes que hacen vida en este pedacito de Venezuela, siguen dando lo mejor de sí para que prevalezca este hermoso ecosistema.

Me entristece lo que dices, He ido en varias oportunidades a la Colonia Tovar y es un pueblo divino y mágico y en tus fotos se observan construcciones que no van con la arquitectura típica del lugar que es uno de los mayores atractivos para sus visitantes...que malo para el turismo y la conservación lo que está pasando.
Es algo que en lo particular me preocupa mucho cada vez que subo a La Colonia. Me entristece ver construcciones que contrastan de forma negativa, además del peligro que representa que se practique de forma descontrolada en una zona de montañas. Gracias @sindetalles

Some people say that urbanism and architecture are huge threats and are the main reasons for the destruction of our natural environment and resources. As this may also be true, humanity has to exercise proper balance between the built surroundings and Mother Nature. Only then can abuse be prevented and a harmonious relationship continues for our long-term survival as a species. Beautiful post @sorprendente!
Through planning we can achieve a balance where we all live in harmony. As architects we have the power and the responsibility to contribute and stimulate the conservation of the environment, highlighting the importance of green spaces in our proposals and projects. Urban planning is a need that has to be addressed but everything has a solution, as my mother @parauri says. It's a matter of putting in effort, getting it, and putting it into practice. In the meantime, continuing to speak out for nature is still a good idea.
