More photos from Mallorca

I've been a little quiet this week on Hive but it's been a good month overall so I can't complain. Spring is coming, lockdowns are ending, and soon we might even get to share a drink on a terrace.

Although I don't have a Seaview apartment from which you can see the sun rise, I know a lady that does. And I have previously asked for a photo each morning which she duly sends. What a totally awesome place to do a bit of meditation and yoga, I am not jealous at all.

It's not all sunshine and clear skies though, at least not during the short winter. The other day was particularly windy and the pier was taking a good hiding from the waves.

During the night I heard something smash, but as all the breakables on my balcony have already be had by the winds I was pretty sure it was elsewhere. Today I noticed that next door have a cleaning job to do if/when they arrive this year -pottery everywhere!

Whilst Covid-19 has been toss globally, Mallorca has suffered quite a lot due to the extent at which the economy relies on Tourism, which has been pretty much non-existent for a year now.

The locals are desperate for Spain, (and the UK and Germany) to sort things out asap, which I'm not sure will happen fast enough for some. There is light at the end of the tunnel (this tunnel?) though, as lockdown measures are being reduced next week and bars and restaurants can reopen their terraces.

Although I've not been out for a beer for a few months, I have been out on the bike and for numerous hikes in the local area. This photo was taken on the (private) driveway of a nice local chap who guided me through his property after I got lost the other day. He warned me about leaches (I think!) in this area in the summer, likely just to be sure I wouldn't be taken this route again.

And finally, more clouds, sunlight, and sea.

With this at the bottom of the road, you can see why I was desperate to make it over here before full Brexit mode kicked in, and why I want to make it permanent.

Cheers all,

Ash

Taking the plunge, making the move will be right for your lifestyle. Done at the right time to settle in and enjoy those views.

I hope so Joan, thank you! :)

I feel bad for those who are in the tourism industry. They are definitely one of the most impacted by these shut downs and those SOS signs are really sad. I wish the news wasn't so contradictory and that businesses could implement the protective measures according to some guidelines. This way those who are comfortable enough can go outside knowing the risks and best practices.

Yes for sure. I read that 30% of people rely directly on tourism here, and of course it is much more with indirect association.

I think it will be better for the summer season but there will be less travelers and then I expect another very quiet close season - this is not going to be enough for many. (And why Bitcoin is a screaming buy!)

Desperately looking for tourists here as well, in the same boots is the whole coastal line. But at least looking at that sea and sunrise can have healing effects, right? hehehe 😅 😇

I can heal myself every day :)

It's terrible for the coastal areas isn't it - so reliant on money from overseas. I read that Mallorca is looking at different revenue streams, but I'm not sure what could match tourism...

I don't know what can replace it... basically no industry here, nothing, it was just the tourism which run the machine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yikes. I don't know what some places will do and I guess things will never go back to how they were.

And I really don't have any answers, just hope that people can find a way.

Go back to fishing, agriculture... but I don't think that lot would do it... crypto :D, and more fishing and agriculture :)

Fish, take photos, and write :)

And play music 🎶 😁

Well.. you're not freezing your knackers off.., actually it's quite mild here (until the next freeze arrives).

Nope, never too chilly here in the day although when it's 2/3c outside it's about that inside too!

I did hear it was mild over there at present, but yeah, likely more freeze on the way!

Very nice indeed. What happened to the table top? 😂

I've put the first "post" lockdown "date" on my calendar. April 10th. Woohoo!

Meeting up with some non-local friends. Don't know where. Don't care. Just got to get out of here and see some new/old faces.

Can't wait until I can get on a plane and go somewhere. But before that I imagine there will be an AirBnB somewhere. Devon/Cornwall perhaps . . .

Glad you're settling in nicely and will soon be able to have a beer on a bar terrace. Such luxury!

What happened to the table top? 😂

I shall ask!

Winter in the UK must be tough without any get out opportunities on the horizon, I think it would have driven me bonkers!

Tuesday, and it'll be a glass of red wine, or two :)

Looks like a ghost town.

Seeing those waves makes me miss the ocean. It has been a couple years since I have seen it...

Might be a few more at this rate :( At some point though, it could be all you see each day :)

I hope it becomes permanent. What a cool change it would be. My work was getting asked about people working from abroad, they didn't like it. Lol.

Those last two, aaahhh..I really want to see a good sun and sea'ing!

I hear it's sunny in Cumbernauld.. just down the road ain't it?

Haha, Cumbernauld is miles away. The bitter North or east or something. Never been near it!!

Yeah it does mean extra work for the company, but mine have been OK so far - they haven't had to do anything yet :)

I hope you get some hols abroad this year - get some discount Vino down!

I hope so too!! They are talking about summer before removing the travel restrictions properly I think. That would be shit!!

Some beautiful views. I really hope things start opening up soon but I have a feeling it's going to be a while. Even after they do I'm curious how busy things will actually be or if most will have changed their traveling priorities to something else.

Yeah I think you are right and the landscape will never be the same again. This island is looking at other ways to bring money in, although I'm not sure anything will come close to tourism.

surfs up!

Freezing this time of year, so it isn't for me!

I did see a few giving it a go the other day though, and this old dude on a padel board - what is the point of those?

old dude on a padel board - what is the point of those?

to paddle? haha fk knows :)

Looks boring af when the water is calm, and impossible when it's choppy. Shite!

That shot of the pier reminds me SO much of the lighthouse at a place called "The brass Bell" here in Cape Town... well, not "here" in Cape Town, because I am actually staying in Fisherhaven at the moment, lol - irrelevant Jayne!!!!

My point was, it gets pretty stormy there too and the seas are brutal... heres a snap I stole from Google...

image.png

...and THAT is what we commonly refer to as "The Cape of Storms" hehehe Don't fnck with mother nature!

A picture you took from Google that is 200 years old? I guess it makes the point at least :D

you are such a chop. It happens every year.... well almost lol.

2008

how about you add standing there to your bucket list when the cape of storms pops around for a visit again lol

I will take photos LOL

Screw that! Did that fool survive?!

Who knows, there is literally a gallery of pics up on the wall of that restaurant.... new ones added all the time lol.

I guess there's plenty of time to decorate at the moment :(

I need a post for today, got an old ones I can use? Joking!!! (too soon? :D )

Sorry, I don't sell my recycling - reinventing it is far more profitable. Joking! (too obvious?! :D)

What year is HD technology coming to South Africa I wonder...

You are such a brat!!! lol - Here you go, in HD as requested you petulant child :P Makes Mallorcas little performance look like the baby splash pool :P lol

She is a brutal but beautiful beast... take your pic of bucket list spots around Cape Town, there aint no shortage

So that's a no, then? LOL.....

That's more like it.

Yeah I wouldn't swap for here, thanks :P

little bish.... lol

The light reflecting on the clouds is so beautiful Asher! A lot of people making their living from tourism are anxious. Hopefully they will reopen soon.
!ENGAGE 20

Yes it's one industry that can do really well, but it's been the opposite this past year. I hope many find a way to supplement their income, with HIVE perhaps :)

Can't wait to have go on vacation this year :)

You and half the planet I think! :D

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Looks beautiful, and do hope the UK/EU thing doesn't negatively impact your visa situation anytime soon. We're still trying to get to any country that will take us. Right now Ethiopia looks like our best best.
