Review | Largo pétalo de mar, a story of love and exile (Spa-ENG)

Greetings to all the book lovers that make life in this community. Today, I want to share with you the review of a book by Isabel Allende that I started reading a few months ago, and I was finally able to finish it recently.

Finishing this reading was my pending task and suspended several times because of all the responsibilities that appeared to occupy all my time and left me no opportunity to enjoy this pleasure that is reading.

Saludos para todos los amantes de los libros que hacen vida en esta comunidad. Hoy, quiero compartir con ustedes la reseña de un libro de Isabel Allende que empecé a leer hace unos meses, y que por fin pude terminarlo recientemente.

Terminar esta lectura era mi tarea pendiente y suspendida varias veces por todas las responsabilidades que aparecían a ocupar todo mi tiempo y no me dejaban oportunidad para disfrutar de este placer que es leer.

Isabel Allende's Largo pétalo de mar is the novel I just finished reading and that I am going to review for you in this publication. At the same time, I take the opportunity to recommend it. If you like this writer, this is one of her books that you must read because of the story she tells us and the theme she deals with in it.

Isabel Allende is one of my favorite writers. I really like her simple narrative style and the way she tells the story and the life of the characters to the point of making me feel part of it and cry, laugh and love like her characters.

Largo pétalo de mar is one of her latest books, published in 2019 by Plaza & Janés. It is a novel that could be considered short and could be read in a few days. At the beginning, the narration is a bit slow, as it starts in the year 1936, it is set in the middle of the Spanish Civil War and in those first chapters the vicissitudes that the Spaniards had to go through as a consequence of the war are narrated.

It is difficult not to feel chills when reading about the hardships they had to live through due to the scarcity of food, the long lines they had to stand in to acquire the little that was available. Inevitable not to make comparisons with the experiences that, as Venezuelans, we have gone through without suffering a war like the one experienced by the Spaniards.

Long petal of the sea is a very emotional novel, in it we are told a unique, unimaginable love story. It tells us the pain of losing one's homeland, of emigrating with all the implications that this entails. It is also a story of hope because all is not lost and of gratitude for the homeland that welcomes immigrants.

Largo pétalo de mar de Isabel Allende es la novela que recién terminé de leer y que voy a reseñar para ustedes en esta publicación. Al mismo tiempo, aprovecho la oportunidad para recomendarla. Si les gusta esta escritora, este es uno de sus libros que hay que leer por la historia que nos cuenta y por el tema que aborda en ella.

Isabel Allende es una de mis escritoras favoritas. Me gusta mucho su estilo narrativo sencillo y la forma cómo cuenta la historia y la vida de los personajes hasta el punto de hacerme sentir parte de la misma y llorar, reír y amar como sus personajes.

Largo pétalo de mar es uno de sus últimos libros, publicado en el año 2019 por la editorial Plaza & Janés. Es una novela que podría considerarse corta y que podría leerse en pocos días. Al principio, la narración es un poco lenta, pues se inicia en el año 1936, está ambientada en plena Guerra Civil de España y en esos primeros capítulos se narran las vicisitudes que tuvieron que pasar los españoles como consecuencia de la guerra.

Difícil no sentir escalofríos al leer las penurias que tenían que vivir por la escasez de alimentos, por las largas filas que tenían que hacer para adquirir lo poco que se conseguía. Inevitable no hacer comparaciones con las vivencias que, como venezolanos, hemos pasado sin que suframos una guerra como la que vivieron los españoles.

Largo pétalo de mar es una novela muy emotiva, en ella se nos cuenta una historia de amor única, inimaginable. Se nos cuenta el dolor de perder la patria, de emigrar con todas las implicaciones que esto conlleva. También es una historia de esperanzas porque no todo está perdido y de gratitud por la patria que acoge a los inmigrantes.

Long petal of the sea is the story of Victor Dalmau and Roser Bruguera, who are forced to leave Barcelona in search of freedom and a life in peace. One of the roughest passages was the one that describes what became known as the retreat of thousands of Spaniards across the Pyrenees to France, which was marked by cold, hunger and many calamities that left many on the road.

In France, they were awaited by the poet Pablo Neruda, who plays a very important role in this novel because in a ship chartered by him called Winnipeg, he gave the opportunity to more than two thousand Spaniards to emigrate to Chile, a country that welcomed them with open arms and in which Victor and Roser took root to the point of considering it their homeland, the land where they wanted to die, after the second exile that took them to Venezuela fleeing from the dictatorship of Pinochet.

It is worth reading this novel and getting to know in depth the story of Victor and Roser, who in the end recognize a love that united them over the years in a different way, but frank, sincere and deep. It is worth reading this story to learn a little of the history of war and dictatorship in countries like Spain and Chile and also to learn about all that is experienced in exile and the challenges of starting in new lands.

Largo pétalo de mar es la historia de Víctor Dalmau y Roser Bruguera, quienes se ven obligados a salir de Barcelona en busca de la libertad y de una vida en paz. Uno de los pasajes más rudos fue el que describe lo que se conoció como La Retirada de miles de españoles por los Pirineos hacia Francia que estuvo marcada por el frío, por el hambre y por muchas calamidades que dejaron en el camino a muchos.

En Francia, los esperaba el poeta Pablo Neruda, quien juega un papel muy importante en esta novela porque en un barco fletado por él llamado Winnipeg, le dio la oportunidad a más de dos mil españoles para que emigraran a Chile, país que los recibió con los brazos abiertos y en el cual se arraigaron Víctor y Roser hasta el punto de considerarlo su patria, la tierra donde quisieron morir, luego del segundo exilio que los llevó a Venezuela huyendo de la dictadura de Pinochet.

Vale leer esta novela y conocer a fondo la historia de Víctor y Roser, quienes al final reconocen un amor que los unió a lo largo de los años de una manera distinta, pero franca, sincera y profunda. Vale leer esta historia para conocer un poco de la historia de guerra y de dictadura de países como España y Chile y conocer, además, acerca de todo lo que se vive en los exilios y de los retos de comenzar en nuevas tierras.
