Three characters tell their side of the story, over the course of a few years bringing them to the point their lives entwine. The audiobook used 3 narrators befitting the personalities with English accents as it is set in London.

The 3 characters are:

Saffire
After a bad experience with a boy slightly older when she was 10, she starts cutting herself which then leads to her sessions with a therapist. When these sessions come to an end, with a need to continue being close to him, she starts stalking him only to discover he isn’t as perfect as he had been in that counselling room counselling.

Kate
The therapist’s wife, temporarily living in a new neighbourhood with the family while their home is being renovated. Just before they had moved, the relationship with her husband was rocky. Kate had suspected he was cheating on her and after the showdown, the conclusion was she had overreacted, falsely accusing him of an affair. There are reports that there is a shady character lurking around in the neighbourhood molesting women, and she worries for her daughter.

Owen
A teacher who lives across from Kate, a bit of an oddball. Accused by some students of behaving inappropriately, he quits angry at the "false" accusations instead of going for counselling.

When Saffire goes missing, all fingers point to Owen. His bouts of alcohol-induced memory loss, date drugs found in his underwear drawer and Saffire's blood under his window makes him the main/only suspect.

The characters were not black and white. They each had a dark side to them which made anybody the culprit, including foxes; Saffire having spent time in an abandoned building, that was inhabited by wild foxes. It showcased the complexities of humans and how nothing is as it seems. In the end, all the missing pieces come together and the characters find a purpose to move forward thereon.

I rate this book 4/5.

It looks an interesting book to read! I hope it will be translated in italian too (in the bookstore where I work we had some books of her in Italian translation and our customers appreciated them ^_^ ).

It was and the characters were complex
I liked that because it really describes humans quite well
Nothing is black or white

Hmmm, now that you mention it... maybe someday we can pick a preferred language - just like movies :D
