Tal vez mañana - Reseña / Maybe someday - Review

Lo primero que leí fue la sinopsis, la cual no me pareció tan especial ni diferente, excepto por un pequeño detalle que capturó mi atención: el protagonista, pese a ser un compositor musical y líder de una banda, es sordo. No sé ustedes, pero me dio curiosidad cómo nos iban a retratar a este personaje peculiar.

The first thing I read was the synopsis, which didn't seem so special or different, except for a small detail that caught my attention: the main character, despite being a musical composer and band leader, is deaf. I don't know about you, but I was curious about how they were going to portray this peculiar character.

Otro detalle que capturó mi atención es la nota que deja la autora antes de empezar el libro. En este breve texto nos informa que la obra tiene una ¡banda sonora!, es decir que todas las canciones que aparecen en el libro, trabajadas en conjunto por los dos protagonistas, existen. Les dieron vida especialmente para la ocasión, lo cual me pareció una idea genial y que seguramente emocionará a esos lectores que aman la música (como yo) y que hará que leerlo te dé otro tipo de experiencia lectora.

Another detail that caught my attention is the note that the author leaves before starting the book. In this brief text she informs us that the work has a soundtrack, meaning that all the songs that appear in the book, worked together by the two protagonists, exist. They were brought to life especially for the occasion, which I thought was a great idea and will surely thrill those readers who love music (like me) and will make reading it give you another kind of reading experience.

Teniendo estos datos me adentré en la historia, que comienza siendo relatada por Sydney, una de las protagonistas. Esta es una chica dulce y divertida, a la vez que determinada. Debido a esa determinación, Sydney decide desprenderse del nido de sus padres para irse a estudiar la carrera que verdaderamente ama, sin recibir ningún tipo de apoyo por parte de ellos.

With this information, I got into the story, which begins being told by Sydney, one of the main characters. She is a sweet and funny girl, as well as determined. Because of that determination, Sydney decides to leave her parents' nest to study the career she truly loves, without receiving any support from them.

Su padre accedió a pagarle los estudios siempre y cuando fuera la carrera que él eligiera, oferta que declinó para ir en busca de sus sueños. Es por esto que cuando descubre que su pareja le está siendo infiel con su mejor amiga que además es su compañera de piso, no acude inmediatamente a ellos. Eso significaría la derrota y quizá tener que dejar de hacer lo que le gusta.

His father agreed to pay for his studies as long as it was the career of his choice, an offer he declined to pursue his dreams. This is why when he discovers that his partner is being unfaithful with his best friend, who is also his roommate, he does not immediately go to them. That would mean defeat and perhaps having to stop doing what she likes.

Se queda en la calle pero solo por cuestión de horas, ya que acá entra en escena el otro protagonista del que les mencioné algo. ¿Su nombre? Ridge. Debido a la situación de Sydney terminan viviendo juntos en su apartamento, el cual habitan otras dos personas: Warren, su mejor amigo y manager y bridgette, que en realidad no tiene tanta participación en esta historia.

He stays on the street but only for a matter of hours, because here enters the scene the other protagonist of which I mentioned something. His name? Ridge. Due to Sydney's situation, they end up living together in his apartment, which is inhabited by two other people: Warren, his best friend and manager, and Bridgette, who doesn't really have much of a role in this story.

Sydney acaba por ocupar una habitación vacía que planeaban llenar con otro inquilino, siendo elegida como compañera de piso por no tener donde vivir, por caerle bien a todos y principalmente porque hace un trato con Ridge, el cual consiste en que sea ella quien escriba las próximas canciones de «Sound of Cedar», la banda de la que es líder. Por lo menos mientras supera el bloqueo con el que tiene días lidiando.

Sydney ends up occupying an empty room that they were planning to fill with another tenant, being chosen as a roommate because she has nowhere to live, because everyone likes her and mainly because she makes a deal with Ridge, which consists of her writing the next songs of "Sound of Cedar", the band of which she is the leader. At least while she gets over the block she's been dealing with for days.

La comunicación entre ellos nunca fue una barrera, porque aunque Sydney no hablaba el lenguaje de señas utilizaban sus teléfonos móviles para mandarse mensajes, por lo que en muchas partes del libro podemos ubicar las conversaciones que mantienen por textos.

Communication between them was never a barrier, because although Sydney did not speak sign language they used their cell phones to send messages to each other, so in many parts of the book we can locate the conversations they have by text.

Para cumplir con este trato musical deben pasar tiempo juntos, tiempo que emplean para que Sydney escriba las letras de las melodías que ha compuesto Ridge. Mientras ella escribe y canta para sí, él toca la guitarra con gran destreza. Es en esas horas compartidas que empiezan a desarrollar un sentimiento el uno por el otro que se vuelve imposible de negar.

To fulfill this musical deal they must spend time together, time they use to have Sydney write lyrics to the melodies Ridge has composed. While she writes and sings for herself, he plays the guitar with great skill. It is in these shared hours that they begin to develop a feeling for each other that becomes impossible to deny.

El problema de todo esto reside en que Ridge tiene novia. Deciden que es algo imposible y que tienen que frenar lo que está ocurriendo entre ellos, por respeto a Maggie, que es la novia de él y porque piensan que no es correcto lo que sienten.

The problem with all this is that Ridge has a girlfriend. They decide that it is something impossible and that they have to stop what is happening between them, out of respect for Maggie, who is his girlfriend and because they think it is not right what they feel.

Básicamente la trama es acerca de un amor inesperado e inoportuno, sobre esa guerra que se le hace al corazón para que deje de sentir porque sabes que esos sentimientos dañarían a personas preciadas a tu alrededor.

Basically the plot is about an unexpected and untimely love, about that war you wage on your heart to stop feeling because you know those feelings would harm precious people around you.

No sé mucho de la autora ya que es primera vez que leo uno de sus libros, pero según una opinión que escuché, una de las cosas que la caracteriza a la hora de escribir es que sus personajes están bien construidos. No puedo hablar por todos los personajes de sus libros pero de estos puedo decir que sí son creíbles, pese a que algunas circunstancias que los rodean son bastante comunes.

I don't know much about the author since this is the first time I read one of her books, but according to an opinion I heard, one of the things that characterizes her writing is that her characters are well constructed. I can't speak for all the characters in her books, but I can say that they are believable, even though some of the circumstances surrounding them are quite common.

Este es un punto a su favor. Nos presenta a dos personajes con un alto nivel de moral y ética, pero sobre todo a dos buenas personas que se han enamorado sin querer e intentan no lastimar a una tercera. No digo que los personajes malos no puedan tener un punto a favor, porque estamos hablando de ficción y todo se vale, sino que sus acciones son coherentes con lo que ellos son o representan.

This is a point in its favor. It presents us with two characters with a high level of morals and ethics, but above all two good people who have fallen in love unintentionally and try not to hurt a third. I'm not saying that the bad characters can't have a point in favor, because we are talking about fiction and anything goes, but that their actions are consistent with what they are or represent.

Este libro está narrado en primera persona, alternándose la narración entre ambos protagonistas, por lo que podemos empatizar con ellos, saber lo que están pensando y sintiendo, sentirlo nosotros, lo cual nos deja en constante tensión por toda la carga de sentimientos que flota entre ellos. Esto es lo que hace que entremos verdaderamente en la historia.

This book is narrated in first person, alternating the narration between both protagonists, so we can empathize with them, know what they are thinking and feeling, feel it ourselves, which leaves us in constant tension for all the load of feelings that floats between them. This is what makes us really get into the story.

Otro punto positivo que me gustaría mencionar es que este libro ¡me hizo reír! Tiene escenas que logran ser divertidas y sacar carcajadas, alegrar el momento y aligerar la tensión. Esto es algo que merece ser tomado en cuenta en este tipo de novelas, que incluyan un poco de humor.

Another positive point I would like to mention is that this book made me laugh! It has scenes that manage to be funny and make me laugh, brighten up the moment and lighten the tension. This is something that deserves to be taken into account in this type of novels, to include a bit of humor.

Por último me gustaría mencionar la cantidad de páginas de esta obra: alrededor de quinientas. Esto me sorprendió, ya que no es usual encontrar tantas en este género literario, a mi parecer. Pero la cantidad no resulta abrumadora ya que el lenguaje empleado es sencillo, por lo cual es fácil de leer.

Finally, I would like to mention the number of pages in this work: about five hundred. This surprised me, since it is not usual to find so many in this literary genre, in my opinion. But the number is not overwhelming since the language used is simple, so it is easy to read.

De recomendarlo o no hacerlo eso depende del gusto del lector. Si te gustan las novelas de romance, sí, encontrarás una historia agradable. De lo contrario es mejor evitar, a menos claro que seas como yo y leas de todo, tratando de dar oportunidades y disfrutar lo que se pueda con los diferentes tipos de lecturas que el mundo ofrece.

Whether to recommend it or not depends on the reader's taste. If you like romance novels, yes, you will find it an enjoyable story. Otherwise it is best avoided, unless of course you are like me and read everything, trying to give chances and enjoy what you can with the different types of reading the world has to offer.
