Can Books About Successful Marriage Make The Reader Have One?

in Hive Book Clublast year (edited)

Dad has had these books at home for almost three years now and they still look new like when he first bought them. Well, the reason is obvious but I've once seen him go through the book and I think he was in search of something when he did, not necessarily to read the whole of the book. He had told me to read it too that it would be helpful for me when he bought the first part of book series.

Well, it's obvious I didn't get to read it up till now seeing how new it still looks but I kept it safely because I know I would read it someday. Why haven't I read the book yet? That's the reason for that question I asked in my title... Can these kind of books make the reader have a successful marriage?

Books written by authors who feels they have had enough experience from their marriage to share it with others so their readers could learn or prepare themselves for whatever may come by. Truth is, I don't believe marriage should be a thing to write on like this except you're just going to call it a small guide on your own marriage journey.

Marriage is a universal thing but how it works and how long it last all depends on the couple involved... Even if one reads the best book about successful marriage, it still takes for that person to make personal decisions to give his or her marriage successful experiences.

A friend's mum once said, "Reading such books might actually add more problems to the issue you have already with your spouse." and I got curious to ask why she said so and she was like... Every marriage have their own dreams, challenges and attitudes and it seem futile to use another's marriage dream talk to reset your own marriage dream. She didn't condemn reading such books at all but was very careful in telling us that reading to do exactly what is in such books shouldn't be.

These books were written by authors who had some issues in their marriage, tried some methods to solve them, the method worked for them and they decided to share (they are not wrong to do that) as a matter of fact, they could have possibly motivated a spouse that is about to give up to have a rethink after reading their books and try again to becoming better.

But as a reader, relying solely on a book because they made a review on it that it had saved so many marriages, you're wrong! (my thoughts though) it's great when you read such books to learn new things about the journey of marriage you've embarked on or are about to but applying every method may not be the best idea.

I saw a movie where a woman was advise by her friend to read a book that helped her strengthen the bond with her husband, the woman began to read and tried putting things to practice but it all seem to make things worse as the husband began felt like the worse person on earth around her. She didn't realize it was the book until she decided to try something outside the book, it worked out well for the two.

The book wasn't the issue...

Such books are written to be read and for the readers to learn and grow in their own pace and improve their ways of keeping their marriage alive, it isn't to make marriages perfect because even the writers don't have perfect marriage (there's no such thing as perfect marriage anyways) so as a reader, one is to learn and improve.

Can such Books give the reader a successful marriage? My answer is Maybe! Depending on how the reader applies what is being read. Well, I'm not all knowledgeable in the marriage department since I'm yet to be in one and didn't get the opportunity to grow in one so I'd like to read from the comments what you think about these books and readers.

Ahh, so you didn’t read them either. I’d say open one and read 😁 I love reading. I read so many great and useless books I can’t even count them. You always learn something. Sometimes it’s an advice, sometimes more about grammar, sometimes a nice word you’ll start using from then on 😉💙

Yeah, I know that
I plan to start reading them already hehe
Thanks @fantagira 🙂

Enjoy 😁

To be a successful and productive marriage journey first and foremost you must have these ingredients: Love, forget, forgive, respect and God. Reading books yes can also be your guide.

Thanks for your contribution 🙂
Books can also be guide, nice!

I strongly believe that good books boost the reader's effort but then, everything start with having a positive consent

And I agree with you, the mindset that reads the book is what matters most

Congratulations in advance on your marriage 🙏🏾

😂😂😂😂
Warris this nau?

Well, thanks... An early congratulations won't harm 🙂

The thing about non-fiction is, they usually arent a template for you to copy or try and replicate, but to learn from and try and apply and usually a lot of them rent great.

Thank you for sharing with us @merit.ahama

I agree with you on that, thanks for your contribution 🙂

Not all lessons we learn from others life is applicable in our life and we all must understand that we are all in this world for different purpose.

What wakes for someone else might not work for you but we can use their story as a guide.

That's right, a guide... Another have said that too and I agree 🙂

It is really interesting your reflection on the importance of books in married life, and I agree that books offer useful advice to improve your marriage, but they cannot determine it completely. It seems to me that the key is to find a balance between the information in books and your own experience, to arrive at the best solution for your marriage.

Yeah, I like your contribution... Finding balance between both will definitely be the solution to reading such books for an improved marriage.

Thanks for your contribution 🙂
