The Half Blood Prince - Darkness has begun!

I finished Order of the Phoenix yesterday and started with "The Half blood Prince this afternoon." Those who have read the books already know how enticing the story starts to get from the end of Order of the Phoenix. Books 5, 6 and 7 gets read much quicker than the first for despite those books being rather much smaller.

I hadn't drafted, or even spared any thought for today's post as I was delved into the 6th book for most of the day. After dinner is when the majority of my posts are written. So as I am staring at the blank page on peakd opened to start writing my post for today, I started longing even harder to just shut the laptop down and slide under the blanket with my book open and get a cozy read for a couple of hours before sleep starts to weight heavily down my eyelids.

For some weird reason, fireworks are going off in my neighborhood. I am starting to get pretty annoyed with the people here - does nothing productive, sleeps through the day and wakes up right about 8 pm-ish and gossips and occasionally, like today, sets off fireworks for no reason whatsoever. With the risk of me using a few nsfw words to further elaborate the nature of a lot of the people here, let's change topics back to my books!

Book 6 somehow starts to give off dark vibes straight from the get go and I think this is more from the residual pain and sorrow the readers went through with Harry at the end of Order of the Phoenix. That darkness, the gloom never really lifts off and we already know how the 6th books continues to get throughout. During my second, or maybe the 3rd read, "The Half Blood Prince" became my most favorite of the series. And I still hold it to that standard, although we will have to wait and see whether there is a shift in allegiance after this read is entirely complete.

The 7th book, "The deathly hallows" is no doubt a thoroughly enjoyable read. But somehow the the darkness, the evil that "The Half Blood Prince" presents seems unsurmountable. The read at the end of this book still has a special place in my heart as it remains, to this day, one of the only book I can remember to have drawn a drop of tear.

The movies does great justice in terms of ambiance, and I think that's what sticks to most. I will have to do a re watch of the movie once I am done with the book this time around...or maybe I'll just do a quick re watch to set the ambiance in my head and get a full "feel" of the darkness unfolding.

Either way, the darkness has begun.

The Half Blood Prince was the best book. It's my wife's favorite as well. She hated the movie because it didn't have all of the back story and all that. Actually, she said that it was a good movie but poor rendition. Lol. I really liked the movie though.

That's one common issue with the movies. But I understand, it is virtually impossible to fit the entire story in the movies. It would take at least two movies to fit all of even the first book - the bigger books are out of the question.

Once I accepted this reality, the movies were much more enjoyable 😃 I loved the 6th movie too. But I think the 7th is my favourite and maybe the 8th too. The soundtracks were insanely fitting!

Yes I agree with you. I pretty much loved all of the movies. I think my favorite was Order of the Phoenix but they are all great from that point on.

My favourite books are the 4th and 7th, but it is true that it is in the 6th book that the foundations for the rise of Voldemort and the magical war are laid. Without a doubt J.K. did an incredible job with this saga

Ah no doubt, no doubt! I was actually contemplating on whether I am going to change my favourite to the 7th book after I finish this read - it's so difficult to choose one haha!

yes, although I like the 7th better because it doesn't take place at Hogwarts until the end, so we get to see many new places and places we knew little about (like Gringots) and also the deaths and the slovenliness gives it an adult depth. It's great
