¡Hablemos de libros! Estoy muy feliz por comenzar a hacer reseñas de los libros que voy leyendo y así mantener el hábito que aunque empecé desee hace algunos meses, no había podido lograrlo. Pero desde que tengo en mis manos mi nuevo Kindle, ha sido mucho más sencillo para mí leer durante mucho más tiempo por día.

El último que libro que me leí (completo) fue gracias a que me vi la serie de Shadow & Bone por Netflix, y obviamente, al terminar la segunda temporada, me quedó la curiosidad de saber qué tan diferente era del libro. En esta reseña no hablaré de la serie, aunque haré una pequeña comparación al final de este artículo.

Let's talk about books! I'm very happy to start reviewing the books I'm reading and keep up the habit that although I started wanting to a few months ago, I hadn't been able to get into. But since I got my new Kindle in my hands, it has been much easier for me to read for much longer per day.

The last book I read (in its entirety) was thanks to watching the Shadow & Bone series on Netflix, and obviously, after finishing the second season, I was curious about how different it was from the book. In this review, I won't talk about the series, although I will make a small comparison at the end of this article.

SHADOW & BONE

Trama

Una horrible mal divide a Ravka desde hace cientos de años, cuando el hereje negro invocó a la sombra, una región alargada llena de bestias aladas que destruyen todo y a todos en su paso, por lo que atravesar la oscura región para buscar provisiones se convierte en toda una campaña en donde los grishas, unos seres que tienen unos poderes mágicos bastante útiles, ayudan a mover los esquites de arena y combaten a los monstruos a duras penas. Es el primer intento de Alina de cruzar la sombra, y allí descubre su poder, uno que puede cambiar el destino de Ravka y el suyo.

Plot

A horrible evil has divided Ravka for hundreds of years, when the black heretic summoned the shadow, an elongated region full of winged beasts that destroy everything and everyone in their path, so crossing the dark region to look for supplies becomes a campaign where the grishas, beings that have quite useful magical powers, help move the sand skites and fight the monsters with difficulty. It is Alina's first attempt to cross the shadow, and there she discovers her power, one that can change Ravka's and her own destiny.

Personajes

Alina Starkov: Nuestra heroína, como buena historia, los héroes no son los seres fornidos y con la mejor actitud, siempre suelen ser el que uno menos piensa, Alina no se escapa de esto. Está en el pelotón de topógrafos, es decir, se encarga de hacer mapas y no es muy buena en ello. Es una campesina huérfana que no sabe de dónde viene, fue criada en un orfanato junto a su mejor amigo, Mal.

Malyen Orestev: o Mal es todo lo que no es Alina, un hombre fuerte, guapo y encantador que no se escapa de las miradas de todas las chicas que los rodean. Está en el grupo de rastreadores del primer ejército y es el amigo inseparable de Alina.

El Oscuro: el oscuro es ese personaje antagónico que en un principio ayuda a Alina y es quien hace que ella potencie su poder y se la lleva a reunirse y a entrenarse con el resto de los Grishas. Nadie sabe cuántos años tiene, pero su apariencia es muy joven, aunque se conoce que tiene más de 100 años. El poder del oscuro es el de hacer una sombra y es un descendiente del hereje negro, el que creó la sombra que divide la región conocida como Nocéano en dónde habitan los temibles Volcra que acaban con todo y todos los que consigan a su paso. Su fin es que junto a Alina puedan retornar la paz a Ravka, ¿pero de qué manera?

Personajes secundarios, no hay muchos personajes secundarios que resaltar, ya que al estar todo en primera persona, no podemos leer desde el punto de vista de los demás personajes, como Baghra, la anciana maestra de Alina, quién le enseña a cómo utilizar su poder. Genya, quién es una sanadora muy particular porque puede cambiar partes del cuerpo, o como un personaje antagónico como Zoya, de quién leemos muy poco en este libro.

Characters

Alina Starkov: Our heroine, as a good story, the heroes are not the strong beings with the best attitude, they always tend to be the one you the least think, Alina does not escape from this. She is an orphaned peasant girl who doesn't know where she comes from, she was raised in an orphanage together with her best friend, Mal.

Malyen Orestev: o Mal is everything Alina isn't, a strong, handsome and charming man who doesn't escape the stares of all the girls around them. He is in the group of trackers of the first army and is Alina's inseparable friend.

The Dark One: the dark one is that antagonistic character who at first helps Alina and is the one who makes her power grow and takes her to meet and train with the rest of the Grishas. No one knows how old he is, but his appearance is very young, although he is known to be over 100 years old. The power of the dark one is to make a shadow, and he is a descendant of the black heretic, the one who created the shadow that divides the region known as Nocean where the fearsome Volcra inhabit, who destroy everything and everyone who gets in their path. His goal is that together with Alina they can return peace to Ravka, but how?

Secondary characters, there are not many secondary characters to highlight, since everything is in first person, we can not read from the point of view of the other characters, such as Baghra, Alina's old teacher, who teaches her how to use her power. Genya, who is a very particular healer because she can change parts of the body, or as an antagonistic character like Zoya, of whom we read very little in this book.

La autora

Leigh Bardurgo, es una escritora israelí que ha generado el maravilloso mundo de sombra y hueso, la trilogía de la que lea estaré hablando el día de hoy y más adelante (cuando me los termine), además ha creado otras sagas como Seis de Cuervos. Los derechos de las obras de la autora han sido compradas por Netflix y han dado pie a la serie de Netflix que ya conocemos y que hemos visto y que entremezclan todos los personajes de manera notable.

The author

Leigh Bardurgo, is an Israeli writer who has generated the wonderful world of Shadow and Bone, the trilogy that I will be talking about today and later (when I finish them), she has also created other sagas such as Six of Crows. The rights to the author's works have been bought by Netflix and have given rise to the Netflix series that we already know and have seen and that intermingle all the characters in a notable way.

Review

Hacer una reseña de un libro que ya tiene una versión en TV es todo un reto, porque en mi caso, primero me vi la serie y luego salí corriendo a buscar los libros. Trataré de hacer mi mejor esfuerzo por no comparar ambas obras. El libro está narrado en primera persona desde el punto de vista de nuestra protagonista, por lo que no esperaríamos ver grandes avances o varios puntos de vista de otros personajes de la saga. Nos muestra los pensamientos y las necesidades de Alina, sus más íntimos pensamientos y todo lo que pasa por su insegura mente. A medida que su poder aumenta, su seguridad también empieza a crecer, pero esta también tiene que ver con el amor hacia Mal, van entrelazados.

Alina no es nada sin Mal, y Mal no es nada sin Alina. Y no se trata de mostrarlos a cada uno por separado como los personajes fuertes que pueden ser, sino que el amor que sienten el uno por el otro es el motor que los hace moverse. Es una historia de fantasía, es cierto, pero también es un romance juvenil que nos demuestra como el amor puede ser ese poder magnífico que venza a la oscuridad.

El final es un poco diferente al de la serie, y ya que me empecé a leer el segundo libro puedo adelantarles que es un camino bastante diferente al que han tomado en la serie. Este primer libro es bastante entretenido y te lo puedes leer rápidamente, yo sí que recomiendo hacerlo para tener un lectura ligera, o como en mi caso, para poder retomar el hábito de leer.

Me siento satisfecha y feliz porque tenía mucho tiempo que no terminaba de leer un libro completo. Aún sigo leyendo y además ya tengo varias sagas marcadas para leer, así que me tendrán por aquí durante mucho tiempo. Abrazos a todos.

Reviewing a book that already has a TV version is a challenge, because in my case, I watched the series first and then ran out to get the books. I will try my best not to compare the two works. The book is told in first person from the point of view of our protagonist, so we wouldn't expect to see major developments or various points of view of other characters in the saga. It shows us Alina's thoughts and needs, her innermost thoughts and everything that goes through her insecure mind. As her power increases, her security also begins to grow, but this also has to do with her love for Mal, they are intertwined.

Alina is nothing without Mal, and Mal is nothing without Alina. And it's not about showing them each separately as the strong characters they can be, but the love they feel for each other is the engine that makes them move. It's a fantasy story, true, but it's also a youthful romance that shows us how love can be that magnificent power that overcomes darkness.

The ending is a little different from the series, and since I started reading the second book, I can tell you that it is a very different path from the one they have taken in the series. This first book is quite entertaining, and you can read it quickly, I do recommend it for light reading, or as in my case, to get back into the habit of reading.

I feel satisfied and happy because it had been a long time since I finished reading a complete book. I'm still reading and I already have several sagas bookmarked to read, so I'll be around for a long time. Hugs to all.
