Last week, Ferdian Paleka uploaded a video in which he and a friend claimed to be handing out instant noodle boxes to people whom they called “bencong,” an Indonesian slur for transgender women. The boxes actually contained bricks, rotten vegetables, and garbage. The video gained national notoriety and several victims of the prank reported Paleka and his friends to the police. Reportedly, Paleka and his cohorts face up to 12 years in prison and a potential $804,000 fine.

Well, about the prank itself, those idiots deserve to be in prison. The penalty sounds a bit harsh though. Some people get less than that for raping, robbing or even attempted murder.
Interesting thing you mention about Iran and their alleged tolerance towards trans. The idea of compulsory trasn surgery to tolerate homosexuality is brutal.

The most worrying thing of this particular case is the fact that it illustrates some disgusting practices among youtubers and other so-called influencers and if this is the sort of thing people find worth supporting/follwoing we have a HUGE problem as a worldwide society

Transgenderism in my opinion is something I think many people holds different opinion towards. It's a dicey topic and I'm imagining the stance of the government of the countries in the middle East. For me I'm rather not so vocal about it.

Sounds like a harsh punishment for a 'prank'. Picking on any group for their gender or race should be called out, but locking up more people is not the way to go. Governments have to be dealing with discrimination in general.

in the national and local news, there was no mention of transgender. It was simply targeting "people" but expect to be locked up when it's in Indonesia especially when you deal with massive outrage and public pressure.

As the father of a trans person, I'm appalled by this.

As a former stand-up comedian, I don't even get the joke they were going for. What about that is supposed to be funny?
