We have two eldest
Today was Prathamastami, the festival observed for prosperity of the eldest child of the family. The festival is believed to be celebrated since 14th century and is a lovely way to instill the sense of responsibility in the eldest child - they wear new dress and that ideally comes from the maternal uncle's home along with sweets and other delicacies. It's like a second birthday for the eldest child, if he is not borne on this day ( dates keep changing, so most likely it will be different). And the other most significant part of this festival is that,we prepare the Enduri pitha, an authentic recipe from my place that has traditional science behind it - its a turmeric leaf wrapped delicious pancake. Let me take you through a visual journey of how its prepared.
The subtle aroma and the unique taste makes it a memorable dish. And it's made out of newly harvested gram flour, rice. The eldest child is worshiped and blessed with enchanting of mantras, but this year, we will not celebrate anything due to the sad demise in the family. But that does not stop us to enjoy the food. The delicious stuff is very tasty and rich in calorie, but then this is a complete oil free dish, compensating that. And we prepare some curries of our choice as a side item. The turmeric effect makes this pancake easily digestible and turmeric is recognized as one of the best natural medicine in Ayurveda and even proven by science.
And here are our eldest - she is the only child so she qualifies to celebrate.
We did shopping in the week end to get him some new dress. But at the same time, we cannot ignore the second one - equal rights for everyone, no gender biased discrimination 😀
The eldest child of the family has lot of responsibilities, but these honor vested in him makes him responsible from a very early age.

"Enduri Pitha"-- I enjoyed it today too. Although I am not the eldest, as a part of the tradition, I have the luxury to enjoy it in the family.
When I see this particular celebration, I feel like sometimes it's a luxury to be an elder.
A complete family and happy family. May this bonding, happiness and celebration continue forever.
It is indeed a luxury to be an elder, but it comes with responsibilities. The eldest child gets lot of attention and at the same time the family has lot of expectation from him - he can guide the family to prosper.
I have heard about this festival. I think it needs a special skill set to prepare that kind of dish, looks very very authentic and delicious.
Happy Prathamastami.
Yes, its very authentic to my place and in fact there is a lot of science behind it. Eating turmeric steamed cake helps the body absorb some part of it , especially kids.
Interesting tradition, all the best to your family´s eldest! :)

I heard the name of this festival but I didn't know that it commemorates the eldest child member of the family. Beautiful family. Have a good day!
Thank you so much.
Wow this festival of eldest you show is so fantastic, the ways you prepare the food looks like it a traditional food, kind of yummy as well, and now I just realize how useful turmeric is , that how a good medicine made, thanks for sharing such a great details dear. Enjoy the day.
Our ancestors would have thoughtfully designed this dish - this is the time turmeric is harvested, so the leaves are used before being wasted.
Let me guess, you are sir the older of tour brothers? Iam sure you raise a very responsible man!
I am the second of three :)
I know about Hindu festivals from the bollywood movies. I never heard of this occasion. This is an information for me. Do you celebrate it each year?
The boy is elder and the girl is younger, right? But you want both of them to be responsible so you celebrate for them both. Hehe.
May God give your kids a prosperous life
Yes, its celebrated each year, the eldest always gets his share from the maternal uncles home. But then the youngest has to be satisfied as well :) so parents take care.
Ahaan! So that's the responsibility of MAMU Jaan to give the share to the eldest.
It must definetely be a memorial festival
yes, like a second birthday of the eldest child, every year.
Nice family you have. Wish you all the best and a great day ahead.
Thank you so much.
@sanjeevm In Venezuela we always celebrate the fifteenth birthday of our children, it is a beautiful gesture that we make to him, so that he feels motivated to behave well in the family, as a human being in general. heading very well in their studies, having a sense of belonging to what little or much they have, to be a good citizen, with my 70 years of age I always know that it is a beautiful celebration. In that sense we share with you such a beautiful moment. successes
Yes, this is a niche way of motivating the eldest child to take the family in the right direction.
Happy celebration I hope you had fun

a second birthday for him eldest son also from an early age he learns to be responsible for many things. That pancake looks delicious and covered with turmeric leaf that must give it a unique flavor.
