Sedum spurium and friends

I don't think I have even shown the smaller succulents that my mum has in her garden. There is not many as she is generally not fan of them (not to mention cacti - she doesn't want a single one). Besides one big Yucca she does have some Sedums though that she brought from some friends. And those few she keeps as they are super low maintenance and basically grow on their own.
This is one of them.

Sedum spurium

I am sure she didn't buy this one. Probably saw it somewhere and asked for cuttings :p I don't even know when.
Now it grows along the driveway and is completely ignored all year round except the time the shrub that grows together with it needs to be trimmed. They both get a haircut then.
No extra watering, no fertilizing. Nothing. And it grows like a weed :)

In early summer, after the spring trimmings it is covered in these delicate white flowers. Bugs love it as you can see.

After its done blooming its usually time for the next trimming of the shrub so all the spent flowers are removed anyway. On the lower photos you will see some taller stems and some yellow leaves. That's the one that requires to be cut few times a year (can't remember it's name).

Even without the extra pruning it doesn't grow very big. It is the crawling type and will grow long stems that will root easily when they touch the round.

Few years ago I did get few cuttings for myself and they rooted well, but then thy got terribly infested with mealybugs and I got rid of them. The cool soil works better than a pot. Always.

It handles the hot summer very well and when the winter comes it survives the freezing temperatures too. Super cool plant!

Th area thy grow looks like a green carpet.

I don't think I've ever seen that before. Reminds me of plectranthus, apart from the flowers

The leaves have similar shape (had to google it), but they are thicker and fleshier.
There are some variegated types too. Quite pretty.

That surely a beautiful flowers, I also like to have one that easy to maintain.
how does it survive the winter time? they died first and then back to life after the springs?

I was trying to remember what do they look like in winter and I cant :o
Google says they are evergreen and it is quite possible they do stay green under the snow. But since the grow together with that other bush that is definitely evergreen, I could have not noticed them dying back and regrowing in spring.
They grow in the same place for many years already and they don't require any replanting or sowing. They just do their own thing.

Beautiful captures of these flowers @ewkaw I know them well 😊

Thanks! You had them? :)

You are welcome @ewkaw 😊 not myself but I have seen them around 🤓
Have a wonderful evening and great Thursday!

I am getting to know the Sedum spurio thanks to you, and this is what I love most about Hive, that I can learn a lot in each post. I imagine that this plant must be very sought after by many flying insects, for everything you say I think it has a lot of personality in its different stages and growth processes, thank you very much for sharing this information through this post.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it :)

Nice green carpet! I have to stop those crazy weeds spreading from my neighbours’ land!

Thanks!
hahaha get a goat :D

Great pics. I wonder how these would look like in monochrome.

Thanks! I actually didn't even try :p. Usually too much of the same colour (green here) and not enough contrast doesn't look too good.

That's a very nice display with those white flowers, I often see usually when the flowers bloom Beautifully and at that time a lot of beetles are perched on them. And from the beetles it is very calm and comfortable to be in the flowers that they can suck the existing liquid. For that flower whatever beetles like to perch there.

Really wonderful Nature Photography 👌
