4 months ago we moved into our van permanently. It was coming into winter here in Canada so we knew the conversion to vanlife would be challenging. Because of this we decided that for a month over the Christmas/New Year period (and my birthday), during the deepest, darkest part of winter, we would rent a small cabin.
The only thing I most definitely wanted from this cabin was an oven to cook Christmas dinner, and a fireplace. Everything else would be a bonus.

We decided on a cozy cabin on Hornby Island, British Columbia. Hornby Island is part of the Gulf Islands and located in the Salish Sea just East of Vancouver Island. The cabin had everything we needed and more, and was across the street from the beach, something I have been missing lately.

During the winter a lot of the shops and cafes are closed most of the time, and it is storm season so the weather is very unpredictable; lots of crazy wind and rain and a few power outages (including one that lasted 22hrs!). But we didn't mind. We came here to relax, sit by the fire, and do not much. But whenever the sun decided to show itself we were out exploring the beaches and trails.

During our month on the island we have explored all the Provincial Parks, climbed Mount Geoffrey Peak (a whopping 330m elevation), and tasted locally made food and beverages.

We leave at the end of this week and I am extremely sad to say so. I would love to stick around for the summer but the ski fields are calling and Ryan is desperate to get more snowboarding in before the end of the season.

Stay tuned for more adventures!
