The Great Mosque In Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia

I'm in roadshow goes to Semarang once with a community to report their event.

The night before we are arrived we are stopping by in Great Mosque in Semarang.

That was the replica of the Nabawi mosque in Madinnah. When I got there, the atmosphere was incredibly crowded. I feel that I don't have the feel of capturing this mosque, that's why I just took the pictures as a little.

This mosque was indeed built as a place of worship, as well as being prepared for religious tourism objects. This is supported by the existence of a guest house which has 23 rooms of various classes, so that visitors who wish to stay overnight can take advantage of these facilities.

The mosque, which is located in the city of Semarang, Central Java, requires 5 years of development, from 2001 to 2006.The mosque, which was built on 10 hectares of land, was then inaugurated by the President of Indonesia at that time, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on November 14, 2006.

The design of the Great Mosque was created by Architect Ir. H. Ahmad Fanani by combining the original Javanese, Islamic and Roman architecture. No wonder when entering the courtyard of our mosque as if we were in Rome.

Ahmad Fanani was chosen as the architect of the mosque which has a typical Javanese pyramid roof because he won a design competition held in 2001. The dome of the Grand Mosque has a diameter of 20m with 4 minarets with a height of 62 m which stands tall in 4 different directions. The Grand Mosque has one tower as high as 99 m which is separated from the mosque building.

the atmosphere in the Grand Mosque.

There are 25 columns in the style of the Athenian colosseum in Rome decorated with calligraphy writing on the grounds of the mosque. The procurement of these 25 pillars is a symbol of 25 prophets and messengers. On the gate of the mosque are written 2 sentences of shahada while the flat area is written in Arabic Malay "Sucining Guno Gapuraning Gusti".

It was a shame when I visited the same 6 giant umbrellas with the Nabawi mosque were buds. This electric umbrella, which has a height of 20 m and a diameter of 14 m, is opened only every Friday prayer, Eid al-Fitr prayer, and Eid al-Adha, provided that the wind conditions do not exceed 200 knots.

The giant Koran written by Drs. Khyatudin, from Al-Asyariyyah Islamic Boarding School, Kalibeber, Mojotengah, Wonosobo. The holy book in this aquarium has a size of 145 x 95 cm² and is the center of attention of visitors.

Apart from the giant Koran, this mosque has a giant drum which is a replica of the Pendowo Purworejo drum. The drum uses cow skin originating from Australia and was made by the students of the Alfalah Islamic Boarding School, Tinggarjaya, Banyumas, Jatilawang, Banyumas who are raised by KH Ahmad Sobri. The drum has a length of 310 cm and a diameter of 220 cm.

Other facilities provided by the Great Mosque of Semarang are the Islamic Culture Museum which is located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Al Husna Tower which has a height of 99 m. While in the base of the tower there is the Islamic Da'wah Radio Studio (Dais) and the TVKU transmitter.

The amazing thing is that on the 18th floor there is a Muslim cafe that can rotate 360 degrees. Meanwhile, on the 19th floor it is used as a viewing tower equipped with 5 binoculars to see the city of Semarang. The binoculars were first used by the Central Java Rikyah Team to see Rukyatul Hilal using sophisticated binoculars from Boscha.
