Drone view of Fairfield Pond

in Drone2 years ago (edited)

This weekend included some time out and about in the Vermont woods. Here is some Drone Video and Pics of Fairfield Pond just a little before the leaves go into full fall mode.

Fairfield Pond is pretty large for what I consider a pond. It's actually 463 acres in size.
Now what I really liked was this shot. If you open it full screen and look way up in the top right corner, you'll see a little tiny island.

Now this is that island zoomed in at 28x. It was very windy, and I'm guessing this next shot was a combination of the wind and extreme zoom.

If you open it big, the slight blur makes it almost look like a painting. This is raw from the camera, no photoshop. Very cool and one of my favs.

I also went out and shot pics at a nearby lake that day (check back later this week for post). That got me thinking about what actually determines lake vs. pond? A little google searching discovered It's technically the depth. Ponds are defined by having a fairly consistent temperature and sunlight able to reach the bottom. I suppose this would vary somewhat based on water clarity. Lakes are defined by sunlight not able to ever reach some depths, and having at least two or three distinct temperature differences (thermoclines). Of course many of them were just named at random, so we can't always judge by name. Fairfield Pond for example is 463 acres and 42 ft deep. While Lake Carmi is only 32 ft deep and surface area of 1,375 acres.

Here's the link to the Drone video flyover. I just love making flyovers like this of the local areas and then exploring from the ground.

Great photos! I really like the video fly over and I've never seen that kind of zoom level of a drone demonstrated!

I think the difference in pond vs lake could be about the wildlife and nature surrounding it. For example, a Pond Lilly only exist in the middle of a.. pond because of the depth of the water and the root system can reach the bottom.
America is weird with its laws- in New Hampshire, there is no difference between a “lake” and a “pond...for legal purposes!

Thanks for that. Speaking of zoom and wildlife, wait until you see the seagulls I was able to zoom in on at the upcoming Lake Carmi shoot. It really is amazing. My first real wildlife shot with it.

Lake vs pond, that's a good question. I've also thought of ponds being smaller like what you might have in your back garden, and lakes are bigger, we have a Lake District in UK and that's a very famous tourist location. I bet you'll get some awesome drone footages there!!!

I would love a trip to the UK, haven't been there in at least a decade. Definitely not this year, we'll see what next brings maybe. I did make another trip to a local lake. It's a bit larger and also got some good footage I'll post later this week.

It indeed looked like a painting. A perfect painting at that.

This is raw from the camera, no photoshop.

It's almost unbelievable. You do such great work.

Thank you for drawing out that discrepancy between a Lake and a Pond. I didn't know that. I have come to read that ponds have smaller waves than lakes as yet another difference between both.

It was a surreal view, watching the drone video.

Thank you for sharing!

Wow. This is so lovely. I love to own a drone too but I'm doubting on which one to go for. Here in Nigeria we have so many drones with lesser functions and battery life span. @ksteem

Thank you for the comment. Yes, certainly spoiled with the flight time on this one. I haven't really pushed it, but so far been able to finish my desired shoots in one battery/flight without the warning beeps or automatic return to home kicking in. When I had the drone with shorter life, I would just take multiple flights and then splice the footage together if needed. Don't need to have a drone to join our group, viewers and watchers welcome!

Beautiful landscapes, it is impressive to see all the wonders that mother nature gives us and how we can capture each space from a drone.

Thanks for viewing. It was a fantastic day to be outdoors in nature!
