Did You Know That NFT Art is Available on Bitcoin? In Fact, the First Ever NFT Art On The BTC Chain is Over 7 Years Old!

in The NFT Symposium2 years ago

Although Ethereum is currently classed as the main blockchain used to host NFTs that are of high value, there are several other blockchains that support NFTs too - including Hive - but did you know that Bitcoin also supports NFTs?

It might come as a surprise but the Bitcoin network, via the Stacks system also supports NFTs and even has it's own NFT art marketplace at StacksArt. The Stacks token 'STX' has been jumping around the top 100 of all crypto tokens this week after a sharp rise in value and is currently at #58 on Coin Market Cap! It's interesting how few people realise that Bitcoin has support for NFTs and the associated token is in the top 100 in the world! What other gems are hidden away in the top 100 coins on Coin Market Cap!?

Not only does Bitcoin have NFT support via Stax but they even have their own knockoff version of the CryptoPunks, the very first NFT art series that has so far accrued a trading record of over $1.1 Billion USD, called StacksPunks:

Amazingly these are virtually a complete copy of the Ethereum based CryptoPunks, with different background pixels and the series has traded for an all time volume of around $1.1M at current rates. Clearly this is a small percentage of the massive amounts traded for the Ethereum versions, but still, $1M+ generated for a very simple art series that is essentially a knock-off is certainly a pretty good return compared the income that most artists see for their work!

The Stacks token has recently seen a sharp rise in value, making BTC NFTs all the more desirable.

The BTC NFT Story

Interestingly, BTC has a fairly detailed history when it comes to NFTs and the first ever NFT art pieces are classed as having been created on BTC back in 2012-2014, depending on your definitions. This very detailed blog goes into the full story.

Some of the earliest NFTs are, understandably, very valuable now!

Where will BTC go with NFTs into the future? Arguably NFTs are still in their infancy and even Bitcoin's NFT story may only just be beginning.

Should you start collecting NFTs on Bitcoin? Well, that's up to you but given the historic nature of Bitcoin it seems likely that BTC NFTs will continue to grow in value as long as NFTs on other chains do too. (Note: 'This is not financial advice') ;)
