#BeerSaturday - week 198 - The Art of Beer

in BEER3 years ago

So it appears that I'm not a complete weirdo after all and my compulsion to collect alcoholic vessels is shared by none other than @livinguktaiwan! I first came into contact with her due to a shared interest in travel blogs, so it was quite a nice surprise to find out that we also share a more unique obsession. I get the feeling that if we ever met in the real world we would get along like Pumba and Timone, laughing and farting our way through the Savana(Obviously I'd be the one farting because we all know ladies don't do bottom-burps).

Anyway, moving on, let's progress with this week's #beersaturday post, where I will be showcasing my inability to throw away beer cans. Now I'm not about to show you a pile of Stella Artois cans scattered at the bottom of my garden - That's my Uncle's collection - these are cans of art that deserve some appreciation. As far as I'm concerned, discarding these cans without a thought is like taking a dump in the middle of a crop circle, it's just wrong. Someone has put all that effort into designing something unique and while it might not fascinate everybody it sure rocks my boat. So, without further a-do, I present my prized collection of beer art.

In total, there are 35 cans, which is 16 short of @livinguktaiwan impressive collection. Nonetheless, it is an impressive tower of beer and I have an equally impressive belly-of-beer to account for the content of each and every calorie-loaded can. As you can see, most of these flavours are sweeter than a sugar-coated kitten, which is purely a seasonal manifestation. These are winter beers but as the sun has started to show its face around Blighty I have begun to pluck some very tasty IPA's off the shelf. Therefore, I expect the color palette to lighten up over the coming months, with the darker cans giving way to brighter designs, like the one I'm drinking while I type this post...

As far as favourites go, I'm a little undecided. Amundsen's can-art is like a visual hand-grenade, while Tiny Rebel keeps things funky but simple. Then there's the black spider can at the top of the tower, this is Weborah and I bought this can solely because of the design. So many styles and all of them fantastic in their own unique way.

The Mrs thinks I'm bonkers, especially after watching me stack them all for today's #beersaturday post. But then again, what do I care, she's Italian and they're all about the vino. Asking her to appreciate my collection of beer cans is like asking a vegan to show you the way to the nearest steakhouse. Saying that, my good lady does share my desire for a Citra hopped IPA, so maybe I'll get away with using the salad compartment in the bottom of the fridge as a designated Citra storage facility...Citra...Citrus...fruit...salad...It's all the same at the end of the day, right?

So to end this post the only way it should end, I will add one more can to the collection. To be honest, I hadn't intended to write this part but, as usual, I've taken so long writing this post I've cracked open my 2nd beer and it would be rude not to share it with you all.

Made by Brew York, this peanut, hazelnut & caramel brownie milk stout is a mouthful in every sense. Thick, sticky, heavily loaded with alcohol, this is everything I want a stout to be and it's was a great beer to see out my winter season.

Farewell, my sticky stouts. It has been a pleasure sampling your dark gooey goodness. But alas, Brew York will be my last Stout of the season - apart from the bottles of homebrew I made recently - (Did I mention that I did a video tutorial about homebrew?). Anyhoo, Summer is on the horizon and it's time to drink accordingly. Stouts are out and a summer of Citra excites me!

All hail the ale!! And a happy #beersaturday to you, my beer-soaked bredrens!

This week of #BeerSaturday, I like to invite @jc1991gsf to write a post about beer with min. 3 pics in any language.

See you all next week, folks! I've got a new micro-pub opening up just around the corner from where I live and I'm looking forwards to giving you all a tour(And tasting the beer, of course).

Thanks for sharing my work 🍺

Ok, let's see what we got here..

Aesthetic wise definitely thumbs up from me, they look a waaaaay lot cooler than bootles 👍

Flavour wise... I love my desserts, but Tirumisu, apple pie, marshmallows, rhubarb and custard in a beer? erhhh 👎

Quantity wise, summer's coming so I guess you got plenty of time to catch up, and I've binned my collection so we should be neck in neck very soon.

Overall, very impressive collection, I might even go and get myself a can of dessert beer now 🍰🍻

Honestly, you’d be surprised what tastes good in a beer. One of my favourites is The one with jam donut in it and I never thought I’d like it. However, I’ll agree with you on the rhubarb and custard, that one was awful 🤢 If you find a place that sells the dessert in a can remember to take 2 wallets as these beers are stupidly priced!

You may be a bad influence on me but I’m looking forward catching up with your collection, I may even take a day off work to put the extra effort in 🍺🍺🍺

I had a look in Tesco today, I saw marshmallow and chocolate, lemon meringue ice cream sorbet and chocolate caramel biscuit, all which I will happily gobble down as desserts. One of them was £5 a can!!!! I'll need more than 2 wallets!

If I ever see the jam donut one I will give it a try, but if it turns out horrible, I swear I will send you the bill for it!!!!

😂 I’ll pay that bill but I know you’d enjoy that one. Beware! Dessert in a can are about £7!! Crazy money but the taste is soooo good.
Tesco have some good beers in stock but the flavour are weaker in the beers below 6% and sometimes don’t work because of that. Anything above 6% and you’re winning. They do a tiramisu stout which is very sticky. I’d recommend that one but you’ve already told me you’re not a fan of tiramisu.

Cheers! The collection of cans is very impressive, I believe the beers were good too, I haven't tried any of them yet, but maybe I will at some point, who knows ... 😁😎🍻

I’ve got a sweet tooth, as you can tell, but I’d recommend almost all of these. Cheers for dropping in! 🍺🍺🍺
