My craft beer bottle collection part 5 - The Blues

in BEER3 years ago (edited)

It's been over 4 months since I last wrote about my craft beer bottles collection. Instead of showing random beer bottles, I've decided to be a bit more organised and do them by colours. Today we'll start off with the blues. I also got the greens, reds, yellow, and clear bottles.

I got six blueish bottles in my collection. By the way, do you notice how 'professionally' I've done my photos today? The things you do when you're bored during lockdown😀

Harbour Brewing is a relatively new beer, they've only been around since 2012. I love the simple H on their branding giving it a very young energetic impression. Apart from beer, they also do a range of clothes, and beer glasses, water bottles all with their distinctive stylish H logo. Anyway, back to the beer, this is their classic Cornish bitter, Cornwall being UK's most south-westerly peninsula, and bitter being a type of pale ale in Britain.

Atlantic is another type of pale ale. There's a very 'sea-y' feel about this, perhaps it's the name and the light blue on the label that makes me think of the sea. According to their pairing notes, this pale ale is good for battered fish or mild cheese, two very different flavour foods, which I find kind of odd. And apparently, they say you can taste a hint of candy floss. I don't remember ever drinking any candy floss, so I'll put that down to marketing jumble. That said, Altantic has won the bronze prize in the 2019 World Beer Award so it must be doing something right.

Goram IPA is a local beer produced by Butcombe brewery from my neck of the woods. Rumour has it that Goram is a local legendary giant. I Googled that as I've never heard of it before, I mean it's a local beer and it's natural that I want to find out more about it and the legends. Guess what turned up on my search? Nothing! Don't you just love it when marketeers always weave in a bit of mysterious folklore in their products.

The other two blues I want to talk about are the Riggwelter and Adnam Ghost Ship. Riggwelter is from Yorkshire, a part of England with the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. The name Riggwelter is a local Yorkshire farming word that orginates from the Nordics, and refers to a sheep that has fallen on its back and can't get back up on its own. The Riggwelter is at 5.7% ABV, one of the higher ones in my collection. It's 5.9% on the tap.

Whilst we're on interesting things about Yorkshire, did you know that in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Team GB came second in the medals table? But the interesting about that, is, if Yorkshire was a country, if would have come 17th in the Rio Olympics medal table, ahead of New Zealand, Canada and South Africa (source) . Don't you love it when you pick up these random trivia when reading a Hive post? 😀

Last and not the least, is the Adnam Ghost Ship. It's a pale ale and was first produced in 2010 for Halloween. It's brewed in Suffolk on the east coast of England and is inspired by a local 600 year haunted pub and the smuggling ships, hence the slogan Hauntingly Good Beer on the bottle neck.

I read a post by @scubahead today, he had a video drinking session with @diveratt last night, and guess what he was drinking on a Saturday night? Yup, he was drinking the Adnams Ghost Ship. I started writing this post yesterday, how eerie is that 👻

I had my bottle of Ghost Ship a while ago, no tasting notes from me as they all taste the same to me. So I've nicked @scubahead's notes from his post where he says "a 4.5% citrus pale ale with a hoppy kick." My mussels were delicious though, I love mussels.

So glad to see I’m not the only one who collects beer vessels 🤣 I’ve got a cupboard full of beer cans and they all have amazing art work on them which makes it impossible for me to bin them. I keep telling my girlfriend that one day I will make some fancy feature with them just to stop her throwing them away!

I have to say, even though I don't really drink, I'm very impressed with the whole beer bottle and can scene. There's seem really cool designs around, especially with so many craft beers nowadays, the emphasis is on the branding and packaging as much as the product itself. Do you collect just cans or bottles as well?

I wasn’t a fan when these designer cans came out but after discovering how good some of them tasted I began to appreciate why they did it. I have saved a couple of bottles but mainly I am all about the cans. I did get a bottle of Orval last week and if you take the bottle back you get some money off the next purchase. This just made me want to keep the bottle 😂

There's some there I've not tried. When I go to the supermarket I often look out for new beers as I just can't be happy with drinking the same one all the time. I don't drink a lot of beer, but when I do it should be a good one. I don't keep the empties though. The house would be full if I did :)

Cheers and !BEER

Hubby's not too fussed with what he drinks so we aim to try as many different ones as possible to add to the collection. Thank goodness for the £6 for 4 offer that's been on forever.

The only reason I collect the bottles is because I'm staying at temporary accommodation (it was supposed to be temp but its' been over a year now 😕) and there's nothing here apart from basic furniture, so I figured the beer bottles would make great decor, and add to a rather plain boring house.

I hope you give them a good wash or it could stink a bit :) We collected the bottle tops for a while. Those take up less space.

There was a time here in the Philippines when there was only one kind of beer brand - the San Miguel beer. I had not known any brand then but I drank a lot of beer especially during night outs with the boys. So you can imagine my confusion when during my first trip to the US of A, I ordered beer in a pizza joint and the waiter just suddenly blurted out 8 brands, none of which I wasn't familiar with, and asked me what I preferred. I said San Miguel Beer and he looked as confused as I was lol. Luckily my boss who was American and who I was travelling with saved the day by ordering Strohs. Whew! This was in the early 80's and probably not yet been born then.

😊

Got an another bit of beer trivia for you. San Miguel was very famous and popular when I was living in HK years ago before they had so many imported and local craft beer. San sounds like life in Cantonese, and Mig sounds like strength beginning with an L. And that's the Cantonese branding San Lig beer in Hong Kong.

Ohh now that one is new to me. You sure do know your beer. Can't wait to share this with the gang when we get together again, whenever that may be. Thanks for the bit of info.

I used to collect something different. Coke cans and bottles from different places or with different theme.
One by one, some of them leaked and created mess at different time.
In the end, gave up. Dumped the last broken and gave away the rest to some else.

Coke collections are big business, I have a few friends who are avid collectors, whoever picked up your collection must have been a happy bunny

I think we were both happy so that makes it good.

Your beer photos are top knotch today. I like the artistic arrangement of them. You even have a backdrop! The ghost ship beer sounds good and i like the story that goes along with it. Interesting. The info about the Olympics is cool as well. Fun facts on Hive!

Thanks Leaky! It's amazing what useless crap you can pick up on Hive 😅
