Beer Tasting: Lindemans Framboise & Zmajska Pivovara Pale Ale

in BEER β€’ 2 years ago

Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

What's new with you? It's #beersaturday on Saturday but I'm running late...
Not that I haven't tasted beer (of course I have, can't pass that up, haha) but it's been quite a busy weekend.

I mean, my wife and I went to the seaside, not to rest but I had to fix something on the canopy because the wind blew one piece of the canopy (I didn't arrange it well) and it was time to fix it.

Yes, on Saturday I spent the rest of the day fixing the canopy, and of course, I turned on the fridge first. My wife had brought some beers from the shop, they had cooled down just right and it was time to taste something.

As I mentioned, part of my canopy was blown away by the wind and I had to fix it. This picture is from last year, but otherwise, it's on the island of Pag, Croatia, camp Sveti Duh, where we've been going to the sea for years.

Let's go for a beer!
First, the one with less alcohol.

🍻 😎 🍻 😎 🍻

Lindemans Framboise Lambic Beer

zmaj2a.jpg

Brewed by Brouwerij Lindemans, Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33l, alcohol 2.5% ABV.
It's Lambic or Flavoured beer, which means the brewing process is complex, fruity, sour, and fermented by a variety of microorganisms. The fruits are added through aging and the yeast and bacteria will ferment all sugars from the fruit.

What do the Master Brewers say?

To make our Framboise, we add raspberry juice to our lambic. That gives it a delicate fruity aroma and a beautiful dark pink color, just like the dress I wore to our cousin Willy's wedding. (But that's of no interest to you since you undoubtedly don't know Willy). Framboise is served as an aperitif, regularly at wedding and gourmet receptions.

Well, I was thirsty and in need of a beer after a full day's work, in a completely different constellation, I'll see if it fits.

zmaj3.jpg

The beer is dark red colour, the head is light pink, it disappears quickly. It smells very much of raspberries.
A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and the mouth is immediately full of fruity sweet, and sour raspberry flavors, there is also a discreet caramel in the background, I don't feel any bitterness.
In the aftertaste, all these flavors disappear.

Really very fresh, very tasty, and suitable as an aperitif or dessert. Light years better than any Radler (if you don't know, beer with fruit juice added) or similar.
I would keep it in the fridge as an example of a fruit beer.

Zmajska Pivovara Pale Ale

zmaj5.jpg

Brewed by Zmajska Pivovara, Zagreb, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.33l, alcohol 5.5% ABV, 38 IBU.
It's a Pale Ale - American, APA style, refreshing and average-strength hop-forward ale, balanced and a little less bitter than Session IPAs.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Pale Ale is a recognizable representative of the APA style, balanced malty and hop notes, full body, and exotic aromas of mango and citrus. By combining four varieties of hops from the New World, we got the refreshing aromas of mango and citrus character of this full-bodied beer and pleasant bitterness.
This dragon classic is a symbol of the local craft revolution. Realistically, it's drinkable to the point of pain!

I know brewers overdo it in their descriptions, but this beer could be interesting.

zmaj5a.jpg

Yeah, 'Zmaj' in Croatian (and in Slovenian language) means Dragon...

zmaj6.jpg

The beer is a clear orange color, the head is average and very creamy. It smells distinctly of citrus. The sip goes down the throat smoothly, first, the freshness and bitterness of the hops come to the front, then quite strong fruity flavors, and the sweetness of the malt is hardly perceptible.
It all lingers for quite some time in the aftertaste.

Very fresh and good beer, if you ask me. Well balanced, just enough bitterness and all the other fruity flavours. Just the right beer to quench your thirst after a hard day's work.
I would love to have it in the fridge but, sadly, it's not available here.

But in Croatia, they have it in almost every shop. So, if you are going to be at the seaside in Croatia in the summer, I recommend this beer, you won't regret it. Of course, if you prefer the APA style.

🍻 😎 🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to as I write this? Something from my last #newtunes post.
Yeah, the same band as in previous #beertasting...
Psychedelic is my favourite kind of music and this Japanese band is exactly that.

Kikagaku Moyo - Cardboard Pile

Hehe I remember that I once judged a home brewers competition on one table with Andrej Čapka - the man behind Zmajska pivovara. A great man! And when I road tripped Croatia, I enjoyed a couple of his beers. Maybe I had the most this pale ale. Of course it may be different compared to 4 years ago, but back then it was still a very balanced and clean tasting beer.

The LindemanS beer is also a beer that should not be missed. I love sours, especially the hard, not sweetened sours. I think this one has lactose in it? Or I am wrong? Anyway, another brewery that’s a favorite one.

Cheers!

Well, it's really nice to know the owner. I also agree that the beer is extremely well-balanced. As for Lindemans Lambic, I think it contains lactose, otherwise, it would probably say on the bottle that it is lactose-free. Cheers! !BEER
