LIFE UPDATE + ROOF REPAIR FOR MY SWEET KIDDO | PH

in Hive PH2 years ago (edited)

Hello Hivers!

How's everybody doing and holding up? The first 2 months of 2022 for me has been really interesting (my positive word for "anxiety-inducing" HAHA) and overwhelming, a roller coaster of good and bad emotions 🤣 I would always say "what's new?" everytime something bad happens to me or when I get unlucky. Lol I think my life is cursed 😅🤣 kidding aside, I am still very blessed with a lot of opportunities and supportive people. (Optimism angel kicking in 🤣)

Anyway, this post is a life update, a remembrance of a lot of FIRST TIME experience. My intention for making this post is to use the rewards to help my student's family who are still struggling to recover from the Super Typhoon Odette. Please do scroll down to read their story and see their situation in the house and if you wish to support them, an upvote and a reblog is highly appreciated.

JANUARY

Super Typhoon Odette hit my hometown last December 16 and it was my first time to experience that strong and aggressive typhoon (The aftermath: The impact of super typhoon Odette). It left a lot of damages and until now some people still don't have electricity. We got back our electricity after 37 days. 37 days of darkness. On the birghter side, we had lovely neighbors who donated and shared food, sacks of rice, water and helped us get gasoline and charged our phones.

Also, when I was able to go back to work, I got gifts from my kid's parents (speech therapy clients) and from the ever thoughtful @thegaillery. And yes I call my clients, "my kids" because that's how I see them, like my very own. 🤗

Oh! And another blessing that I received is a wheelchair for my mom! Recently she's been having a hard time walking already. She suffered from stroke last 2019 and as she's getting old, her body is also becoming weaker. I'm very thankful that my neighbor helped me get a free wheelchair from a foundation. Wheelchairs are so expensive. huhhu I'm so happy, my mom most especially! 😊

FEBRUARY

I had to jump from cafes to friends' houses for internet to do some work. After 75 days, we FINALLY got back our internet. It was a struggle especially most of my work, I mean I think most of us, NEED internet connection. Here's a picture of me working at my friend's house and bribing her with ice cream ahaha The picture on the right side is the ISP technician who I also bribed with some snacks 🤣

So one night I went to my neighbor's to return something. She was walking her dog and I approached them. I really find her dog cute so I tried to pet her. The dog was wagging her tail and jumping towards me so I was thinking we can be friends, but EEKKKK I was wrong. 🤣 I was able to pet her for awhile then BAM she bit me superrr harddd. It was bleeding a lot and I hurried home to wash my hand. Boy, it was pretty deep! When what happened sink in, I had a panic attack and was crying but also laughing (haha im krazy like that).

I went to a private hospital that night to get shots but OMG it was so expensive! They said I need to pay around 8,000 php or 165 USD. Then one of the nurse in the triage told me that there's free rabies shots in the city hall so I went there the next day. Thank God for that nurse! I spent only 600php or 12 USD for the shots at the public animal center. I really wanted to show you my fresh wound but I know it's inappropriate haaha so posting a pic of my bandaged and healed hand. As a dog lover and owner for all the years of my life, this was the FIRST TIME a dog bit me. 😥

Because of the bite, I wasn't able to work for almost 2 weeks which was very difficult since our arrangement was no work no pay. 😢 On the brighter side, Hive was able to contribute in helping me financially during those 2 weeks. Thank you hive! My bestfriend also took over my speech therapy sessions for my students. Also, the very sweet neighbor (the same one who helped me with the wheelchair) gave me all these first aid tools and antibiotics. ❤️ Very grateful!

MARCH

During pandemic, public transportation was limited so I was forced to learn how to drive a moped so I can go to work and do my errands. In my 2 years of driving, this was my FIRST time getting a flat tire and the worst thing was, it happened when I was at the bridge. People were honking at me, some were kind to slow down and tell me I had a flat tire. I had to push my moped in quite a long distance to get to the vulcanizing place. It wasn't really a shop. It was just one guy with his little equipment for vulcanizing and a small chair by the sidewalk. It took 20mins. for him to fix it and he said I was lucky that even though I was running it on a flat tire til I got down the bridge, the interior only had minimal problem. I didn't think he'll ask a cheap price, I gave him double the amount that he asked because he was super kind and worked fast!

Okay, I think I'm just overreacting. 🤣 but yeah, that's my life in the first quarter of 2022, which technically isn't done yet so will update you soon what else happens. WAHAHHAHA Praying and hoping for better days only. For me and everyone! 😌 Also, WORLD PEACE PLEASE. SPREAD LOVE ONLY 🙏

REWARDS OF THIS POST WILL HELP WITH MY KID'S (MY STUDENT) HOUSE REPAIR

Some of my students came back for classes just last February due to the aftermath of the typhoon Odette. One of them, let's call him Jake, is a 4-year-old boy who is a very adorable and talkative student. He shared that until now they don't have roof in their house. After our class, I asked his dad about their situation at home and asked for some pictures.

These photos were taken the day after the typhoon. All their roofs flew and left their things exposed.

This is how their house looks like now. They are temporarily using a tarpaulin which is heartbreaking especially that it keeps raining here in the Philippines. That's why I thought of making his family a beneficiary of my post rewards to help them get a roof.

I really want to help Jake so he will be able to study properly and sleep comfortably. He is a very hardworking and smart kid and showed significant improvement in our class. He wishes to have a roof above his head and I hope we grant his wish. 🙏

THANK YOU AND STAY SAFE HIVERS!

Hi Shanna, how are you? man, your first quarter of 2022 was tough. Lupet! Seems like life is out to challenge you every month. I know you probably need one of these 🤗 so here's another one 🤗

Anyway, I hope you're feeling better now. I'm from the Luzon area so I wasn't affected by the typhoon but the stories I've seen here on Hive and related by some of my relatives were horrifying. I'm no psychologist but I know that can be traumatic to some. Add to that the constant worry about the costs of building what has been destroyed by the typhoon. And the other things that happened to you. Here's to hoping things will get better for you and Jake 🤞

🤗 backkk! thank you so much! 🙏 My humor and optimism angel help me get through it all 🤣 hoping for better days to you too! ☺️

That's great that you have a humor and optimism angel 😊 And thank you for the well wishes 😊
