Hope you enjoyed May and the summer season in the Philippines!

Before it gets rainy (or is it already?), we want to thank everyone who joined the blogging contest for this month.
We have an overwhelming number, including some staff who shared their thoughts (but don't worry, they're not included as contestants).
Without further ado, here are the entries. They're all interesting so I hope you'll have time to check them out.

What if, she is me?
By: @jenthoughts

I don't know her in person, I just know her here in Hive but it seems I know her for a long time. She's like a friend or a sister for me.
There were lots of things I saw and knew about her that made me think, What if, she is me

Stranded on Deserted Island
By: @chikakiku

image.png

The instance of getting stranded on a deserted island had a high probability once there's an accident happens and you survive like a plane crash or a ship sinking but those are too brutal let's think those chill ones like I decide to visit a deserted Island but I was stranded. In that situation, before I hop onto that Island, I will be prepared three important things in my bag, it includes a bottle of water, a lighter, and lastly, a machete sounds weird right let me explain why I choose those items.

There is something comforting and warm about that specific Filipino word. Why? Because maybe in my lifetime, only a few ever questioned me that...authentically. Even if others don't mean whenever they say it, there's just something about this word that makes me feel...at peace. Like, yeah my life's shitty and all but, that words just makes it a little less...shittier.

This is me and my best friend's pet name or nick name for each other. It is our own term of endearment like love, babe, etc.

Stranded In A Deserted Island? The Three Things I Will Bring
By: @cli4d

-

Anyway, from that question, I started to reflect on what I would actually bring in case I get stranded on a deserted island. On choosing the items I will bring, I need to consider their usefulness, practicality, and importance because, with only three items, I should be able to perform the basic things I need to do to survive.

A life switch in a day with Miss Wittyzell
By: @dennnmarc

The Hive blockchain has plenty of users both writers and gamers. I haven’t been in Hive for a year but I already interacted and met a lot of people. I’m always eager to meet new faces and new people because Hive is a diverse community. But if I were going to switch life with anyone from Hive, then it would be someone I am looking up to which is Miss @wittyzell.

What to bring on a deserted island?
By: @splintercell-01

-

I'm unlikely to be stuck on a deserted island because I rarely travel and live near a Metro Manila. However, if something like this happened while on vacation, I would most likely bring presence of mind, fearless heart, and steadfast faith. Okay, enough with the intangibles. Here are the items I would carry if I were stranded on a deserted island.

Ikaw. Ikaw! Ikaw?
By: @nmore

-

Familiar? Probably because most of us can't make up our minds so we answer a question with another question but I think that is not solely the reason why we respond this way most of the time. To me, "Ikaw" is one of the most romantic words in the Tagalog language. We care about the other person asking this question which is why we'd want to consider and prioritize their options over ours. We are interested to know their wants and needs. Ah sweet.

“Tahanan” and My Search for Home (HivePH May Blogging Contest)

Ironically, my favorite Filipino word is also the same word I don’t quite have. It’s the one thing in the world that I have fervently protected, consequently lost and eventually, slowly tried to find again.

Idaan sa Maboteng usapan! (Let's get shots!)
By: @maverickinvictus

-

"Tara idaan na lang natin yan sa maboteng usapan" (Let's just have a good conversation - Mabote being a clever play on the word Mabuti which means good but in this context Bote means bottle of alcohol so what it really means is let's have a drunken conversation)

First Blogging Contest Entry : My Favorite Filipino Phrase
By: @suteru

-

"Kung may itinanim, may aanihin" (if something is planted something will be reaped) this for me is one of my favorite Filipino phrase. Growing up as a farmer this words really applies to me but this words does'nt only means planting plants. It is also applicable to a lot of things in life like financially, family and social connections to name a few.

My Survival Kit to Last on a Deserted Island
By: @ruffatotmeee

-

If I was struck with some bad luck and unfortunately got stranded on a deserted island, I would take that as a sign to start a new life, but with the nature and those unknown creatures that I might discover on that island, like wild animals. It sounds exciting if I look at it positively. But with the skills I have right now, I'm not sure if I will ever survive that. It'll be scary no matter how I convince myself, that's for sure.

"Pahinga" means more than just "rest" | Hive PH Blogging Contest Entry
By: @ishwoundedhealer

-

We have a Filipino word that encompasses the mind, body, and spirit – “Pahinga”
On the surface level, it simply means “to rest” and is related to pausing, waiting, or stopping for a time. Often, when our loved ones pass away, we say, “Nagpahinga na siya.”

The Pandemic Plants
By: @sudeon

-

I interpret this Filipino proverb as realizing the value of things in times of need, just like how we took for granted my mother's medicinal plants as mere decorations. We often complain on what's lacking in our lives that we fail to appreciate the blessings that we already have.

Now why did it become my favorite phrase then? Nothing to sound as religious and all. I just acquired it from someone whom I do not recall.

Words That Spark Joy
By: @cthings

Filipino language has a lot of delightful words. From chismis/tsismis (gossip) to kilig (the feeling of having butterflies in your stomach) to kembot (shake or sway one's hips), each word has its own charm. I know for sure that whatever Filipino word we choose, we can never go wrong 😏
