Onboarding

Hive PH conducts Onboarding webinar with the goal of bringing new people into the Hive community. We are seeking for people who would bring value to the blockchain and would keep the community running.

The first onboarding seminar was held last October 23, 2021, hosted and facilitated by @Romeskie, expecting only 6 attendees: the 4 presenters and two more people who responded through the FB post.

Who would have thought that from those 6 attendees, we catered 21 participants in total, through google meet. A week before the seminar, there were multiple meetings to discuss how to attract people to be interested in blogging through Hive.

The presenters at that time were romeskie, juanvegetarian, adamada, and tpkidkai. Indayclara and ybanezkim26 also shared their experience with hive and OCD onboarding details for newbies.

From then on, Onboarding webinar became a regular activity in the community, thanks to our SocMed team, our passionate onboarders, and HivePH Staff.

Last 2021, we hosted a total of four (4) Onboarding webinars through Google Meet hosted by the staff.

  • October 23, 2021
  • November 20, 2021
  • November 27, 2021
  • December 11, 2021

Then come 2022, we conducted seven (7) Onboarding webinars held on Zoom, Google Meet and Discord server, hosted by the staff.

  • March 13, 2022
  • April 10, 2022
  • May 15, 2022
  • July 9, 2022
  • August 13, 2022
  • October 22, 2022
  • November 19, 2022

Last March 11, we had our first Onboarding Webinar this year via our Discord Server hosted by Tpkidkai.

The following topics are covered in the said webinars:

  • What is Hive?
  • Hive Basics
  • Peakd Interface
  • How to Write a Post
  • Wallet & Rewards System
  • Do’s and Dont’s
  • OCD Onboarding Program
  • Hive PH Community

Throughout the years, the number of webinars we conducted increased but there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of onboarding. There are no data yet regarding the retention rate of the people we onboarded but we are looking forward to tracking it in the future. As to the people we onboarded, we hope that we helped you in one way or another, may it be financially, mentally, or emotionally.

We are still aiming to onboard and continue to maintain a lot of people who bring value to the community.

Curation

The criteria for our curation isn’t absolute. It’s a guideline and there are a lot of factors that could explain how one author gets a frequently featured on curation compilations despite having a guideline that says we try not to curate the same authors often. Sometimes we just have a small pool of active users posting at that time, or the author posts great content that it just outshines the other candidates. It doesn’t really matter at the current state of our community HP since we’re not handing out huge votes.

The Curation Guidelines:

  • Posts made by Filipinos, Half-Filipinos, or HivePH members.
  • No specific word count is required but try to have at least a 150 words on your post if possible.
  • Use the tags #hiveph or #hivephilippines, but for users that aren’t familiar with the community, the number 1 guideline can still be applied.
  • The post isn’t a spam post and does not contain plagiarized content.
  • Try not to nominate the same author often.
  • NSFW content can still be upvoted but not featured.
  • Topics about politics, religion, inciting violence are not encouraged.
  • The user doesn’t post on Steem or Blurt.
  • No reposts.
  • Cross posted content is fine.

Some future changes planned for the curation compilation includes bringing back the old beneficiary setting where featured authors get a cut in the post rewards. The current setup allocates a portion of the rewards to curators, specifically curators that submitted the post featured. This move will give more rewards to the authors featured on top of the current votes they received from the community account.

If anyone noticed the growth rate of the community account, it’s sitting at 1% per month because bulk of the rewards are diverted to giving back to the staff and community. The community account is only a means to an end and that end is about giving more to the people that it’s meant to support.

The guidelines are not absolute but merely serve as a guide. It’s still up to the curator’s discretion if they want to support the content. A curator shares a link and gives the command for the community account to vote on the post. Among the posts voted on the curator’s channel, there are a few posts selected to be featured onto the curation compilation. It’s a collective effort.
