Follow Up Announcement for the Upcoming Writing Contest:

The Outline of the Post:

  • Objectives
  • Rules
  • Miscellaneous Announcements
  • What to Expect from the First Story

Objectives

This is a writing contest to promote engagement and creativity among community members except judging the winner isn’t based on objective skill. Think of it as a popularity contest on who can entertain the crowd with their story version and less about proficiency in literature. If you’re familiar with the “I love democracy” meme, then you’ll know how this will go down based on the google image results.

Rules:

  1. Start off from the base story (either from the intro post or the post that won the round).

  2. No minimum number of words.

  3. One submission per round. Comment under the latest announcement post the link of your entry.

  4. Non-HivePH members are welcome to join.

  5. English, Filipino and a mix of both can be used. You can insert the use of another language provided it's easier to understand the context of what they mean and it's not going to be dragging to use a translation app to read it. Some idioms or phrases sound funny if seen through the eyes of another culture but it’s best to lay up some context first.

  6. Deadline of entries will be a week after the introduction for the story has been posted or winner declared from the succeeding round. Once a winner has been declared for that round, their winning post will be the basis for the next sequel of the story. The cut off time is within the week of the last announcement post but it doesn’t mean a follow up announcement post will come exactly after a week to announce the results for the round. If you submit your work on day 7, expect people need some extra time to read them.

  7. There are no limits to the themes and characters based off fiction or real people you can use. You can even do self-insert or make up characters from your mental universe. Don't use unreasonable amount of violence, nsfw, character assassination and other themes alike for the sake of ruining the reading experience for everybody.

  8. Have fun participating. Know that this is a community activity where winners get chosen based on no objective criteria but popularity. If your entry gets more people entertained, then that will likely win even if the writing isn't as polished as accomplished writers out there.

  9. How to get disqualified: Plagiarizing your work. In the remote chance that you actually pull this stunt, you deserve it. Doing multiple submissions under different account names. The prize money isn't going to make anyone rich and it's not worth the trouble screwing your reputation over. Not listening to rule 7.

  10. Even if you weren’t able to participate in the previous rounds, you can still hop in the succeeding rounds.

  11. It’s best of 3 out of 5. As long as no one wins 3x the rounds OR the contest has reached the 5th round without a winner, the 6th round will be used as the end game story.

  12. More rules will be added when the need arises.

  13. Voting for the winner will be done on HivePH server, and only those with the member status would have their votes counted.

Notes: Rule 4 was made to open HivePH doors to a global audience. While the community is Filipino-based, we don't shut off doors to anyone that is willing to be part of the community or its activities.

Miscellaneous Announcements:

10 HBD will be given to the end game winner. Sounds low for a contest that takes around 5 weeks to finished give or take right? Well, think of this as just 5 extra posts you have to hustle on top of your regular posting with a chance for that 10 HBD. Participants already get the benefit of eyes on their submissions and it’s not far fetch some votes will be handed out by community members that are actually reading.

Although there are no runner ups, I’m just going to leave you guys hanging at the idea that I may or may not reward those writers that manages to display prolific writing skills even if they didn’t get top spot. Some curators from different communities will be reading some of the works shared so this is another layer of incentive to do your best.

The target date for the actual story will be sometime next week.

What’s the Beginning Story Going to be Like?

I write it like a fever dream style where there’s no clear beginning or end and everything is just made up as I write. My old dream diary will be useful for this as I can just piece together incoherent events and tailor it to my own conscious shitposting storytelling style. It's going to be chaotic.

I’m just as interested as you to see what I could come up with and even more at the prospect of taking a few bottles of beer while writing it. If you’re expecting a clear storyline, you’re going to have a rough start.

I think it is better this way for the sake of the challenge and see how the community wants to shape the story into their thing. I could later join in the succeeding rounds and still get my own version rejected in the future for someone else that can entertain the community better. This is a shitposting experiment where everyone can join in.
