Los pectorales son músculos que suelen entrenarse con casi cualquier ejercicio, las flexiones son uno de los tantos ejercicios que están orientados al aumento muscular de los pectorales.

Esta guía de flexiones está bastante buena bro, yo incluyo este ejercicio en mi rutina pero hasta ahora solo hago las flexiones normales con las manos a la altura de los hombres. Probablemente agregué alguna de las variaciones que indicas en este post :P
