En el caso de Cuba fue animador de las primeras series realizadas y hasta que dejó de participar en los primeros años de la década del 60 del pasado siglo fue el máximo ganador de estas lides. Pero, tras su regreso a la Serie del Caribe en el 2014 la participación de nuestra selección no ha sido positiva, pues sólo logró ganar la edición de 2015.
Después de ausentarse en las series de 2019, 2020 y 2021 el equipo ganador de la serie cubana fue invitada a participar en el evento de este año, por lo que todos los aficionados cubanos celebraron la decisión de invitar a Cuba, para seguir disfrutando del deporte nacional de la mayor de las Antillas.
Breves de la Serie del Caribe.

Este es un torneo de larga data que tuvo sus inicios en 1949, siendo Cuba el país anfitrión. El evento reúne todos los años a los equipos que ganan sus ligas de béisbol. Esta serie está en el circuito competitivo del Caribe y pertenece a la Confederación de Béisbol Profesional del Caribe a la que pertenecen Venezuela, México, Puerto Rico y República Dominicana.
A esta competición se han invitado diferentes países del área, como Cuba que en sus inicios era miembro pleno, Colombia, Panamá, entre otros.
Análisis del partido Cuba vs Curazao
El primer partido de cualquier evento es fundamental y más en un torneo corto que se juega con el sistema de todos contra todos, pues en cualquier sistema que se adopte mientras más victorias tienes es mucho mejor. Si se juega por el sistema de play off con equipo de 4 es fundamental, pues si terminas en primer lugar jugarías con el equipo que queda en cuarto lugar.
Si es con el esquema de la llamada súper ronda, pues ganar es mucho más importante porque los resultados se arrastran teniendo en cuenta lo que hiciste contra los equipos que están es esa fase.
Lo anterior explica la importancia de este primer juego y, aunque el duelo inicial es entre los dos equipos invitados, ambos pueden ganar la serie si logran llegar a la final y vencer.
Vayamos al terreno.
El rival de Cuba en la primera fase es de los menos ¨cualificados¨ de los que están presentes, pero no engañarnos porque Curazao es una excolonia holandesa y ya sabemos que muchos peloteros de estas islas representan a los Países Bajos en las competiciones de mayor rango e incluso hay peloteros de estas islas que han jugado y juegan en las Grandes Ligas de los Estados Unidos, en Japón y en otras ligas que hay por todo el planeta.
En el caso cubano la Federación Cubana de Béisbol se encuentra en un proceso de perfeccionamiento del béisbol, se están haciendo todas las coordinaciones para insertar nuestros mejores peloteros en ligas internacionales y desarrollar nuestro béisbol. La participación en la Serie del Caribe se inscribe en este proceso.
Los Agricultores de Cuba alinearon con Yunieski Larduet, Raico Santos, Yordanis Alarcón, Rafael Viñales, Guillermo Avilés, Denis Laza, Andrés De La Cruz y Osvaldo Abreu. Para los conocedores de esta alineación notará que es extremadamente ofensiva, con jugadores de poder, tacto, con 2 zurdos de buen bateo como Raico Santos y Guillermo Avilés y muchos de ellos con una gran velocidad, entre las bases.
Por su parte Wildcats KJ74 de Curazao alineó con Darren Seferina, Ray Patrick Didder, Roger Bernardina, Jonathan Schoop, Wladimir Balentien, Juremi Profar, Sharlon Schoop, Dashenko Ricardo y Andrelton Simmons. A simple vista puede observarse que es una alineación experimentada con jugadores conocidos para la afición cubana como Bernardina, Wladimir Balentien y Andrelton Simmons.
Mi valoración del encuentro.
Fue un juego en el que predominó el pitcheo de ambos conjuntos y que solo tuvo 3 entradas complicadas para ambos equipos.
En el caso de Cuba logró conectar de hits en casi todas las entradas, pero faltó el batazo oportuno con hombres en circulación que le permitiera ponerse delante en el marcador y respaldar el buen trabajo de su abridor César García. Tal caso ocurrió en el cuarto inning cuando con dos hombres en circulación Cuba no pudo anotar.
Aquí se cumplió el axioma del deporte que dice que cuando no la haces te la hacen.
En el quinto Curazao anotó primero y se puso arriba 1 carrera por 0 y estuvo a punto de ganar el encuentro, pero en el octavo episodio el jugador menos calificado del equipo cubano empató el encuentro con un jonrón en solitario.
El desenlace final.
El juego llegó empatado al final del encuentro y fue necesario jugar una entrada extra. En esa décima entrada Cuba que fue visitador anotó en dos ocasiones y en el final del inning Curazao no pudo responder. De esta manera concluía el encuentro y Cuba ganaba su primer juego 3 carreras por 1.
Claves de la victoria del equipo cubano.
•La solidez de su pitcheo, pues tanto su abridor César García, como el cerrador Andi Vargas cumplieron su trabajo y no permitieron muchas libertades al equipo contrario.
•El equipo supo ganar en el juego chiquito, pues no fue un encuentro en el que se anotaron muchas carreras.
•La buena dirección del cuerpo técnico
•El juego alegre y colectivo demostrado en el terreno y el ánimo de los que estaban en el banco
•La fe en la victoria
¿Qué debe mejorar el equipo cubano?
•Deben hacer ajustes en el bateo.
•Si la ofensiva de largo alcance no funciona, poner la velocidad en función de la ofensiva.
•Sustituir a los que no rindan, por peloteros que están en la banca y que tienen deseos de demostrar su valía.
•La oportunidad de sus bateadores con jugadores en posición anotadora.
Un comentario final.
La selección nacional cubana ganó su primer partido. Falta mucho torneo por delante, pero arrancar ganando siempre es una buena señal. A pesar de la victoria mucho tiene que ajustar el equipo técnico si quiere alcanzar resultados positivos contra rivales más encambrados, como República Dominicana, México o Venezuela.
Por lo pronto ya hicieron el primer ejercicio de la tarea que tienen por delante y lograron ganar, en un compromiso donde volvió a lucir bien el departamento más débil del equipo (pitcheo) y se quedó muy por debajo lo que parecía iba a ser su mayor virtud (su poderío ofensivo)
A partir de ahora vienen una serie de juegos muy exigentes para el plantel cubano. Veremos si este equipo saca la estirpe de los equipos cubanos de antaño y nos devuelven la alegría en este deporte que más que pasión es cultura e identidad nacional.

The Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series began, which for the first time uses a scheme in which teams from eight countries participate, since, in addition to the usual teams from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico, Cuba, Panama, Curacao and Colombia, which on some occasions have participated in this event, joined the competition.
In the case of Cuba, it was the host of the first series and until it stopped participating in the first years of the decade of the 60's of the last century, it was the maximum winner of these competitions. But, after its return to the Caribbean Series in 2014, the participation of our team has not been positive, since it only managed to win the 2015 edition.
After being absent in the series of 2019, 2020 and 2021 the winning team of the Cuban series was invited to participate in this year's event, so all Cuban fans celebrated the decision to invite Cuba, to continue enjoying the national sport of the largest of the Antilles.

It was a game in which the pitching of both teams was predominant and that only had 3 complicated innings for both teams.

For the time being, they have already done the first exercise of the task ahead of them and managed to win, in a game where the weakest department of the team (pitching) once again looked good and what seemed to be their greatest virtue (their offensive power) was left far behind.
