Helping people make their first withdrawal from Hive πŸ’°

I had three sessions introducing two of my onboarded referrals @zannta and @chibiimee to D.Buzz (and Hive)! On this post is the third one.

  • The first one is about registering to D.Buzz through HiveOnboard and making their first quality post. This one happened in the evening of Sunday, December 20, 2020.
  • The second one is about various apps (such as #Dapplr and #Ecency) they can install on their smartphones that they can use to explore the Hive community (though they had difficulty using them to post on D.Buzz). Since I did not write an article about this, I could not remember the exact date, but I knew it was midway between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve! That said, I hope #DBuzz releases native smartphone apps for D.Buzz soon! πŸ˜…
  • The third and last one is about withdrawing their earnings on Hive, directly into their cryptocurrency wallet of their choice. This one happened in the evening of Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Don't worry about them withdrawing all their earnings, since they are not going to quit or Power Down Hive.

That's all for the introduction! Listed below are what I told my onboarded referrals, until they finally received their withdrawal on their cryptocurrency wallet (on Coins.ph)!

  1. I told them to register at BlockTrades.us. When they asked me what #BlockTrades is, I told them that it is the cryptocurrency exchange on which they can convert their HIVE or HBD into any cryptocurrency listed on the website. After that, they asked me if they might need to go through the hassle of using their long private keys again, for which I said no. I told them that they just need to provide any email address they can access, and a corresponding password for it. I assured them that if they are transacting with such small amounts (more or less $1), they do not need a complex password for their BlockTrades account.
  2. I told them to go to their Hive Wallet to claim their pending rewards. That is at https://wallet.hive.blog/. I wanted to tell them about the Hive.Vote automation of reward claiming, but I postponed it because it might cause their experience to be more complicated than it should be. Anyway, both @zannta and @chibiimee won 2 HIVE each from @dbuzz's "On The Spot" awards!
  3. I told them to convert their HBD to HIVE. Both of my referrals use Coins.ph, which is a cryptocurrency wallet app (accessible on their website and on smartphone apps) available in the Philippines. Coins.ph is an app which is really convenient to use and offers a lot of rebates, but its fees for cryptocurrency trading and sending are very high compared to other exchanges. Among all the cryptocurrencies available on BlockTrades for withdrawal to Coins.ph, HIVE to BCH (Bitcoin Cash) was the one that had the lowest fees. They preferred BTC (Bitcoin), but I said that it has very high fees and is discouraged by BlockTrades. I then sent them equally all my HIVE after converting to it all my HBD, so that their first withdrawal will be higher (and the fee percentage is reduced).
  4. I told them to go back to BlockTrades and supply the necessary information. After my referrals converted their HBD to HIVE, I told them to fill in the required information. Send HIVE, Receive BCH, and all their HIVE into the Send quantity field. I estimated that the fee was roughly 15%, which they said was high, but they won't complain for something they will receive for free.
  5. I told them that they just needed to wait for the BCH to appear in their wallet. After about 10 minutes, BlockTrades told them that their withdrawal was successful. When they checked their BCH wallet on Coins.ph, the funds had not appeared yet. I told them to visit the bitcoin cash blockchain explorer at https://explorer.bitcoin.com/bch, and put their BCH wallet address there. They saw an incoming transaction to their wallet there, and I told them that the transaction needed to have enough confirmations (which I don't know how many exactly) for the amount to be credited by Coins.ph to their wallet. While waiting, I told them about how confirmations in sending cryptocurrencies work. After another 15 minutes, there was a confirmation, but the amount was still not yet credited to their BCH wallet because... obviously, just one confirmation is realistically not enough.

Because I did not know how many confirmations were required by Coins.ph for them to credit the incoming cryptocurrency into the user's wallet, I told my referrals to wait overnight for the BCH to be credited. Furthermore, I told them that since the transaction was already on the blockchain and Coins.ph was just waiting for enough confirmations, BlockTrades already did their part, and Coins.ph just needed to credit the sent amount after enough confirmations. So, in case Coins.ph does not credit the BCH, it is no longer BlockTrades's problem. After a few days, I asked them if they received their BCH, for which they acknowledged that they did receive them right in the Coins.ph wallet.

Hope my story helps others who want or need to withdraw their D.Buzz (Hive) earnings too!

By the way, if anybody noticed why the cryptocurrency in the picture is XRP (Ripple Token) and the fiat currency is in U.S. dollars, it is because that is the best image on Pixabay I could find that features both cryptocurrency and fiat currency.

😎 Thanks for reading! 😎

My thoughts:

  • Telling them to register on Blocktrades is a good choice, it's the easiest service I know to covert HIVE to other Crypto. Most exchanges don't accept all countries, and it's a pain even if your country is accepted sometimes.

  • The way you went along with them in the process is probably the same way I'll go over the same thing. Except that I would probably tell them to wait until 6 confirmations, because that's how most wallets I've seen worked. Don't know about Coin.ph though...

  • I love LOVE the way you described all of this. It doesn't leave me a room to interpert what happened differently, which means I know exactly what you did and how you did it, and that's much better than any explanation that I come up with!

They preferred BTC (Bitcoin), but I said that it has very high fees and is discouraged by BlockTrades.

How much they're converting? BTC really has high fees and it will never be my choice, but I know some people will sacrifice the fees to go with their preferred currency. If they're converting an amount +$100 they might be okay with it, if it's lower than $100 tell them the percentage they'll lose with the current Blocktrades fee. Does Coin.ph have internal fees for deposits too? Your text implies that's the case.

Thanks for your long reply from your account you are using for longform replies! πŸ˜†πŸ˜…

  1. I am aware of the 6 confirmations used by most exchanges before the deposit gets credited to the wallet. Coins.ph requires 3 confirmations as stated on their helpdesk for incoming BTC transactions to be credited to their users' respective wallets.
  2. Withdrawing about $1 worth of HIVE to BTC through #BlockTrades will give you exactly 0.0000000 BTC (zero)! However, in the case of BCH, they received roughly 85% of their withdrawal amount. Nevertheless, BlockTrades shows the "NOTE: Bitcoin network fees are currently high." message on their website.
  3. Coins.ph has zero fees when accepting cryptocurrency, but has very high fees when it comes to exchanging to fiat currency (somewhere between 6% to 8%) and sending to external (non-Coins.ph) cryptocurrency wallets (roughly $10 for BTC and $1 for BCH). I care more about the ratio of the fee to the actual transacted amount, rather than the fee itself.

Thanks for appreciating my article! πŸ˜€ I did hope you also shared your thoughts about why my post got downvoted. πŸ€”

That's my longform reply to your longform comment! πŸ˜…

Thanks for clearing the last point up.

By downvoted, you mean the small %100 downvote that didn't do anything? I can think of a few reasons, but downvotes like these doesn't matter much:

  1. They have a grudge against you. (Unlikely but possible.)
  2. They clicked downvote by mistake. (Also unlikely.)
  3. They're a part of a group that downvotes any post they come across. There were a few back in the spring of last year because of the whole STEEM/HIVE politics.
  4. They have a grudge against someone who Upvoted you. (More likely than #1.)

I can think of more reasons, but I think I wasted enough time on this...

My assumption right after I saw that downvote was that the downvoter did not want anyone withdrawing HIVE (or teaching others to withdraw HIVE), or using Hive just to earn money. πŸ€”

Oh, yeah, that too... I think the downvote is too low for him to have actually read the post. If it was an actual curator who downvoted your post will get toasted!

That's why I jumped to conclusion of a grudge or something...

The downvoter is actually a woman (as it appears on that user's profile). I don't think it is because of a grudge, since I have never interacted with her posts. 😐

I probably checked the wrong user then...

I believe that it is the thought that counts. That's exactly why I am voting posts I like using 0.1% (or 1%, depending on the Hive frontend I am using) of my Voting Power - to show that I like the post without spending Voting Mana. 😐

Me too!

Did you teach them about how to be successful in hive? Comment on posts to win followers who'll upvote their posts. Hive is about engagement as much as it is about posting.

Right now, they can't even post once daily. πŸ€” I want them to do what you recommend, but that is after they find it a habit of posting daily. πŸ™‚

Thanks for your suggestion! πŸ˜ƒ

Typical question that I received for those who are curious about what I am doing. Can use this as a guide once they onboarded and accumulated certain quantity of HIVE they want to cash out. But for me, I see this as long-term sowing and planting. Withdrawal is not my concern for now, but how to set aside every pay day small amount of fiat to be converted to crypto. The struggle is, the man here is working in a low-paying company and yet responsible to support a family of 5.

Thanks for sharing your feedback about my post. πŸ€— It is said that whoever owns the Hive account can use their account as they wish (as long as they don't harm others, like by downvoting indiscriminately for example or by spamming), whether they would withdraw immediately or invest back. πŸ€”πŸ˜

Have a !PIZZA for your consistent engagement! 😁

Soon I will buy this PIZZA so I can also test the command in tipping. Sorry, I forgot how many times in a day can a LUV command be used. I think I need to revisit the link you shared.

I assume that you cleared your Hive notifications before you are able to read and reply to all my replies to your comments! πŸ€”πŸ˜…

Have another !PIZZA! 😁

Yes, that's what I did and then I start to read them one by one. Is there a way to see that? Or you are also doing the same thing? πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Forgot how many times can someone send !PIZZA in a day. I am already full that's why I am sparing this one you gave me for later snack. πŸ˜†

You can use the #HiveEngage app (https://engage.hivechain.app) to be able to see (and reply to and vote on) all replies you haven't commented to yet (except users you ignored within the app) on your posts and comments for the past 7 days! πŸ€“

Have some !ALIVE! 😁

@rzc24-nftbbg! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @savvyplayer. (2/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

That's another bot! Wondering how may staked ALIVE do I need to have in order to use that command.
