Old bread arch.

Hello everyone dear friends and welcome back to my blog. Today I share a watercolor painting whose subject is an ancient oven that produced bread.

It is located in the historic center of Gaeta, a city close to mine (Terracina - Lazio - Italy) and I am attaching my photograph from which I took inspiration.

During my walk in this city I was immediately struck by the arched structure of this old shop. As you can see, these are two arches inserted one inside the other, the first is Gothic and the second is Romanesque, a rarity.

In front of some pots sadly empty, abandoned and with weeds grown in a few hundred years. I didn't know what this structure was and so I got information by asking some local elders, and they confirmed that it was an ancient building over 1000 years old. One of them remembered that as a child before the war he went barefoot to buy bread.

So to honor the old oven I decided to write the word pane (bread) in Italian on the sign and I revived the ornamental plants.

Vecchio arco del pane.

Ciao a tutti cari amici e ben tornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido un dipinto ad acquarello il cui soggetto è un antico forno che produceva pane. Si trova nel centro storico Gaeta, una città vicino alla mia (Terracina - Lazio - Italy) e vi allego la mia fotografia dalla quale ho preso ispirazione. Durante la mia passeggiata in questa città sono rimasto subito colpito dalla struttura ad arco di questo antico negozio.

Come potete vedere si tratta di due archi inseriti l'uno dentro l'altro, il primo è gotico e il secondo è romanico, una rarità. Davanti alcuni vasi tristemente vuoti, abbandonati e con erbacce cresciute in qualche centinaio di anni.

Non sapevo cosa fosse questa struttura e allora ho preso informazioni chiedendo al alcuni anziani del posto, ed essi mi hanno confermato che si trattava di un antico edificio di oltre 1000 anni. Uno di loro si ricordava che da bambino prima della guerra andava scalzo a comprare il pane. Quindi per ononorare il vecchio forno ho deciso di scrivere sull'insegna la parola pane, in italiano ed ho fatto rinascere le piante ornamentali.
