Hello Friends! A couple of days ago I showed you my portrait of a Geisha in oil pastel. As I mentioned then, I did that entirely without my usual gouache underpainting. As I wanted to elaborate on the subject of Japan a little more anyway, and with gouache left over 😉 it occured to me that I hadn't done a gouache painting in a while. So here is my admittedly slightly cliché "Japanese Impression" in gouache.

For a change, I wanted to do this less painterly and more like the kind of commercial graphics seen on old travel posters. Because such a stylized depiction is way out of my comfort zone, I did the piece just this once in a very small format, just to see if I could do it. Remember, I don't have any formal art training whatsoever, I'm trying to figure this stuff out as I go.

Hallo Freunde! Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich euch mein Porträt einer Geisha in Ölpastell gezeigt. Wie ich damals erwähnte, habe ich das ganz ohne meine übliche Gouache-Untermalung gemalt. Da ich das Sujet Japan sowieso noch ein wenig weiter bearbeiten wollte und Gouache übrig war 😉 kam mir der Gedanke, dass ich schon länger keine Gouache mehr gemalt habe. Hier ist also meine zugegebenermaßen leicht clichéhafte "Japanische Impression" in Gouache.

Zur Abwechslung wollte ich das Bild mal weniger malerisch gestalten, sondern eher wie eine Werbegrafik, wie man sie auf alten Reiseplakaten antrifft. Da eine solche stilisierte Darstellung außerhalb meiner Komfortzone liegt, habe ich das Bild ausnahmsweise in einem sehr kleinen Format gemalt, nur um zu sehen, ob ich es überhaupt hinkriege. Bitte vergesst nicht, dass ich keinerlei formale Kunstausbildung habe, sondern mir diesen Kram nach und nach selber erarbeite und aneigne.
