Hive Open Mic, week 33, entry by mipiano. Moonlit Night by Robert Schumann, op 39, no 5

in Music3 years ago

Moonrise is the theme of this week’s Hive Open Mic, #openmic. @cabelindsay is doing a fantastic job, gathering every week musicians from all around the globe to celebrate the power of music, and I would say, love. As for sharing music, love is needed. And vice versa, for sharing love, music is playing the main role.
In the genre of classical music, there are several works for piano solo inspired by the moon and moonlight. One of the most famous is, of course, Moonlight Sonata composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Also, Debussy composed a work, called Claire de Lune, a movement from the Suite bergamasque. However, I wanted to explore more and find something not so well known. I searched in the lyrical songs, composed by Robert Schumann and found a beautiful Moonlit Night song, op 39 no 5. (in German Mondnacht). So it is a song originally composed for voice and piano, but his wife, Clara wrote the arrangement for solo piano.
The song is written in 1840 while Robert was in Berlin, and according to composer it is one of his most romantic pieces and it contains much of his love towards his wife. That is why it makes it very lovely... Charged with tenderness and love.
The concept of the song is a slow, very poetic atmosphere, based on the lyrics of Joseph von Eichendorff.

Schumann moonlit night photo.jpeg

Mondnacht

Es war, als hätt' der Himmel
Die Erde still geküsst,
Dass sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nun träumen müsst'.

Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,
Es rauschten leis' die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.

Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,
Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

English:

Moonlit Night

It was like Heaven's glimmer
caressing Terra's skin,
that in Her blossoms' shimmer
She had to dream of Him.

The breeze was gently walking
through wheatfields near and far;
the woods were softly talking
so brightly shone ev'ry star.

And, oh, my soul extended
its wings through skies to roam:
O'er quiet lands suspended,
my soul was flying home.

The piece requires so much concentration, both for playing and listening. I hope that this different kind of work will bring you some peaceful and tender feelings.

I really like how you played that piano piece it sounds quite calm and relaxing the music and the poem is also very beautiful I feel the tenderness and tranquility of the song

Thank you @marriakjozhegp . I was afraid it would be hard to listen to a slow , not very well known piece of music. But I am glad you liked it 😇

This is the best way to start my day. Beautiful music played beautifully. Again, a performance that matches the feelings written in the piece and its lyrics. Bravo!

Oh, @betrayo, you are always so kind and your professional comments make me feel I am on the right way 😇
Sometimes I have doubts, is it good what I publish? Is it something that others can like... ? So with this one I can calm down now ☺️
Thanks to Robert and Clara Schumann to this music 💖

So sweet ❤️! I get you. I feel the same about the things I have published so far. I had too long a time without playing anything and got back on the horse learning to be a soloist and the whole thing.

We are here to support. Besides, it helps a lot that the piece is so romantically beautiful and the hands of the player are a conduit to transmit the emotions.

Yes, we have to thank them for their music and you for your performance. 😄

Oh yes, I feel myself soothed and bathed by this song, as if blanketed by the moonlight itself. Your presentation is a gift too, sharing the context of the song's origin, which I appreciate knowing, along with your excellent audio/video recording work. And of course your performance is stunning.

Thank you for joining in and enjoying Hive Open Mic

Thank you. In my opinion it is important to share the origin of the piece, or the circumstances that the composer wrote it.. They are part of the history now, but in their time they just lived their everyday life, inspirations, struggles, hopes and loves as we are living ours now.
Thanks for your words and support Cabe!
