Music Monday - Feeling The Deep House and Trip Hop

in Music3 years ago

It's been a couple weeks since I've done a #MusicMonday post. I woke this morning to steel grey clouds and sleet. The atmospheric gloom had me feeling a little out of sorts. Felt like a good day to listen to some deep house and trip hop tracks.

Harmonic 33 - Exotica

I love tracks like this. Back in my rave days if I found a good trip hop DJ in a chill room I'd end spending a big part of the night listening to stuff like this. Ambient with a heavy hip hop influence. I find music like this incredibly relaxing.

Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

Another dark ambient trip hop sound with dark vocal. I love the video for this too. I think part of the reason I enjoy dark sounding music so much is it seems to fit in with the dark environment of our long dreary cold winters in Buffalo NY.

Alex Cortiz - Moodfood (full album)

Alex Cortiz has a way of putting together these enchanted soundscapes with a unique breaky trip hop sound. Here's a full album showcasing these unique sounds.

Eat Static - Live Stream

Changing things up a bit with this recorded livestream. I love watching people do live PA. It's incredible how much sound you can get out of just a few pieces of equipment now.

Back in the 90s we had a local kid that went by ALIEN and he would fill 3 huge folding tables with equipment and basically build it through his set. So he'd start out with a Roland TR-808, then add another piece of equipment, then another piece till the tables were filled with all kinds of wild electronic equipment. Some of the stuff he actually built himself and help to give him his unique sound. Every one of his sets sounded completely different too because he'd create it on the fly as he was building. He never really knew where the music would take him.. He was really something to see, I wish I could find some recording from back then. He took us on some real journeys with him.

Tarekith - Maschine Studio Live Set

Here's another example of what can be created with just one piece of decent equipment. This is a 30 minute deep house set using Maschine studio. After watching this it almost makes me want to run out and order one of these!

Well, that's this weeks #MusicMonday post. Hope you enjoyed these live sets and trip hop sounds I selected this week. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

This Monday post (am reading it the day after, Tuesday, sorry :)) has some cool music recordings in it. Like the trip hop and ambient tracks. Can have similar ways to ambient rooms at raves, as you. Always a nice way to get out of the rave itself, but still not get out of the rave. When this happens after already spending more than many hours in the rave, such breakout can last for long as well {LOL}.

The Alien guy. Interesting how a kinda underground house-ish, electo-ish set turns into a goa-like one (acid one with an uptempo race-like beat).

Hearing all of this gives me the WISH I can go and lose myself at a rave again. Has been too long ago; More than a year and counting. This early summer, hopefully, two weeks at a festival, 12 days of non-stop music with a few days break in the middle. Planning is in the works by the organisers hoping miss covid will allow us this ultimate event.

I haven't been to a festival in a really long time, at least 10 years for me. The last really big event I remember going to was EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) in 99 or 2000 maybe. I think it was EDC 3... Good times for sure.

I thought the same thing. He was all over the place with that set yet somehow made it work.

Well, here's to hoping we see a return to festivals and raves and concerts again soon.

Owww I heard about Electric Daisy. Never been to a festival in the USA. Been to some clubs in old West side of NYC a decade or two ago. As well as in SF. Both places, I liked. Totally different to what I know from my own country and other European countries, but very nice to get some USA experience on (techno) front. I can only advise you: Go to some of these festivals, regardless of your age. I usually pushes the average age up quite a bit when I attend one (or more 🙃), but don't care. It is very likely I'lll never stop going, even when I'm 80+ yrs of age 🤩

I've thought about it. I watched EDC online a year or two back and would love to attend another. I'll probably hit up a few more festivals when they start up again.

That's awesome!

I've thought about it.

Dont think: Just do it! You'll love it! Brings back memories of good nature and you'll create some new ones. Perfect time to reset the mind, truly live in the moment, and more of that :) My advise, go for a multi day festival, preferably one (or more) with more days then a few. I prefer those a lot. Gives the feeling of not having to party that afternoon or night and time enough to explore whatever is to explore 🙃

I like this idea. We'll have to see if festival season happens this year in the states! Might make an interesting mini vacation too!

Thats what I do at least two times a year (well, before covid times and hopefully this year again). When not this year, then 2022... Nice year with the 3 2's in it to go for the re-enter into festivalling :)
