Handmade Vinyl Techno
Not sure you can call it Techno the way I define or like it but let us take a first look into Helena Hauff - thanks to @cubapl for the hint - he will give deeper insights next week I assume.
I did not come across her before so I am learning. Helena is from Hamburg and has a quite solid focus, she knows what she wants and she is for sure no mainstream act that does what a record label or managers tells her to do.
What I like is the pure use of analog sound instruments / equipment, like me in the past she plays vinyl which is awesome! Her style as DJ (and record producer) is called "stripped-down techno and electro tracks" and mainly combines acid house, EBM and industrial music - this is why I was not immediately dancing to it.
An interesting personality
Helena has brain, she did her studies of fine art, physics and systematic music science and produced her first album back in 2013 and as a DJ plays many underground locations but also bigger events.
What immediately created further interest was listening to her interviews - she is an open-minded girl and I was astonished by her deep British-English accent - unusual for Germans. Not sure this is related that she was the first female DJ to be named by BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix of the year. Listen to a little feature about her:
Curious to hear your thoughts about her sounds!
The world always needs more music, or flowers as the Aztec's would call it
