Moments for a pause

in The MINIMALIST11 months ago (edited)

Today's Spring Bank Holiday here in the UK is a day set aside to celebrate the arrival of Spring. Many people tend to go out and celebrate the day or plan family get-togethers, however, I took a moment to pause.

I felt the need to take stock of my immediate environment and circumstances, to set a bit of order into my life. Taking a pause is important to check on my life to identify areas that are unbalanced and reflect in my life that could be tweaked for improvement.

There was little movement with no one in sight and I felt like I had picked the right day to pause in the woods. Observing the nature around me, with the gentle swaying of the leaves and branches, gave me aspiration of just how I want my life and my approach to life to be.

So, even though I might find myself undertaking my duties, chores, and daily nuances, I needed to evaluate if my efforts were deliberate and mindful, or if I was only going through the motions on auto-pilot.
Taking a pause is essentially a great way for me to ensure that my actions are geared towards my goals for continuous self-improvement.

My quiet time in the woods allowed me to refocus my intentions.

While doing this triangle pose, I thought about the movement itself. It's like being stuck between two narrow panes of glass, forcing me to realign my spine, carefully, to make space to breathe and not break the invisible glass. The same theory is good for me to apply to my life.

I've realised that fitting yoga or time in nature does not have to be a grand event on my agenda, as a little goes a long way.
Regardless of the actual time invested in doing the asana itself, it is most important to apply the principles of Yoga off the mat and into my everyday life.

Poses require balance, focus, some flexibility, mobility, and a sense of calmness to achieve to avoid injury and strain.
That's the same requirements needed for handling and dealing with the ups and downs of life.

Moments for a pause are a great time for moments of gratitude too, as being thankful helps to keep me in a positive frame of mind. Being in the woods where the environment is cool and calm, is a great reminder that we (I) owe it to myself to bloom and grow. To weather the storms and all conditions of life present to me.
We just have to pull ourselves together, stretch and increase our limits.

Also, remember that just as Spring presents new leaves and starts a new life in the woods/forest; so can we.
Today is a good day to turn a new leaf in our journey.

This was just a 3-minute read. Sometimes, three minutes for a pause can be powerful and all that is needed to centre our minds.

Thank you for your time 🙏

I haven't had nature time in a while. I have been spending a lot of time in doors. I need to remedy that...

Yes, I do hope you get outdoors. Still having pets is good for your well-being and can be grounding too:)

Yes, they are. <3

Awwww! I know. Last night my cat snuggled up to my face while I was sleeping. I believe she was in the mood to play because she was meowing and very happy 😍

Although I can probably never be great at Yoga, at least not at this current moment with my knee pains and often imbalance thanks to it, I will probably end up hurting myself even more.

I wish I could do these things though and I've often considered at least trying a few of them to calm the body and soul. Instead of doing that, I started going to these outdoor gyms where I can stretch my hips when I have been inside too much.

Reading through your post with your pictures where you seem extremely zen, I felt the same tranquility in my head, so even seeing you do this made me relaxed, thank you <3

I'm happy that my inner peace and tranquillity transcended you.
You don't have to do all those impressive poses that you see flying around social media. A lot of people aspire to do those poses on their heads for the wow factor, yet their actual life is the only thing that's upside down.
Find a few that are specific to your ailments, and do those stretches. Hip exercises are excellent.👍

yet their actual life is the only thing that's upside down.

Thanks for this <3 Made me laugh!

Yeah, I already saved a few videos for hip stretches because my hip is constantly making these sounds even when I just step forward. I know I come from a line of bad hip ladies (my mother and gran had new hips at some age and I know mine is not really located well either lol)

Time To see what I can do about it. Thanks for the reminder!

Yeah, one of my knees has been making some scary sounds too. I'm back on Vit D and I probably need to up my calcium intake and do some exercises to strengthen them.
We take our bodies for granted but I would hate to lose my mobility 🤗

Good stretch. Now you are getting close to what I'm aiming at. I'd like to produce content that connects language, humor, nature and exercise. I think my workout can actually be pretty funny and educational.

Thanks for sharing. You are getting there !WINE

Thank you.
Your comment is making me smile and blush.
Have a lovely day 😁😊

What beautiful settings to do yoga my dear @millycf1976 , the natural spaces, with fresh air my dear friend, how well executed are your asanas, your art is very beautiful, I loved your publication, my friend continue to develop your beautiful postures. I wish you a lot of success.

Thank you @omarrojas.
Do you get to do your yoga exercises outside in nature, sometimes?

I do yoga indoors occasionally, but I've always enjoyed it more, and focused better in a natural environment.

Thanks for your lovely comment:)

That's right, I do yoga and I use many settings, parks, gardens, on the beach, among others, it is very good to develop it for the good of our physical and mental health. You, dear @millycf1976 , can see good vibes, beauty, and effective relaxation when you do yoga, keep it up and keep checking how good it is to do yoga. From Cumaná, the capital city of the Sucre state in Venezuela, I wish you much success personally, with your family, and at Hive.

You're spending a good amount of time in the woods these days. That's great! Looks like a nice day. You got some sun!

Yes, I have been.😁 It's a minute's walk to the woods from where I am. The back gate opens to the woods, but the rear garden is a bit overgrown and I'm not about to go stepping out there for fear I see something moving in the ground. So I go the long route in one minute 🤣
I'm so loving these sunny days.

Nice. Sounds like a great spot. Being close to the woods is always good.

Haha sunny days have that effect :)

Hey @millycf1976, thank you for the reminder. It's been roughly two weeks since the last time I genuinely slowed down and had enough time for myself. Already blocked off this weekend for this.

Thank you 😊

Already blocked off this weekend for this.

Excellent. I hope you get to do something for yourself. Even if it's just to relax and calm your mind 🤗

You are excellent! Did you perhaps delete a chair from the first photo 😮😁 Have a great day!

I'm trying t use these sunnier months to get back in shape. My muscles struggled last winter and I think I'll benefit from getting back in shape.

Have a lovely day :)

I agree taking pauses helps. Last week, I took a little break from my daily nuances too, and did my evaluations. It was crazy, waking up and not doing anything much. Just staying still and meditating. But it was worth it because this week I already know the things I have to let go of and the ones to focus on as a priority.

I am glad this spring and 3-minute pause gave you a chance to reevaluate yours too. And you have been able to figure out how to use balance, focus, some flexibility, mobility, and a sense of calmness to go about your life and deal with the uncertainties that come with life.

You are doing well ma'am. 🔥🔥

Thanks for your lovely comment:)
I gather from your blog that you do take the time to evaluate your life and that you are quite self-aware.
Kudos to you on feeling better about your actions this week, after taking some time out last week.
Have a great week ahead 🤗

Thank you so much for the compliment, ma'am. I appreciate you. Have a great week too. ❣️

I couldn’t agree more—taking a bit of time out for yourself, just to “be” is vital. Applying yoga principles to life is a damn good idea, too. The scene that you’ve set there for yourself to enjoy a few yoga moves in, looks calm, inviting, cool and restful. Clever girl!

Thank you 🤗
Yes, it's so calming in the woods and a nice place to escape reality:)

I too took a pause but didn't go out. Instead, I focused on my almost-forgotten skills and tried to polish them a bit by watching some YT videos. But compared to yesterday, people seemed to enjoy their time at home, perhaps they are exhausted from partying late the other nights.

Anyway, taking a break and reflecting on the self always creates new windows for self-improvement. And what could a better place than woods to calm our mind and listen to what the inner us has to say?

Youtube videos are good motivators, and sometimes, it doesn't matter what we pause to do. It just has to be something that allows us to have a new perspective or reminder.
Yes, I think people again appreciate "time at home" in a positive way compared to forced lockdowns.
I'm happy about your thoughtful comment:)

I haven't done a proper stretch routine in the last 2 weeks or so. It's just so hot here, sticky and lethargic are the words. Today the temps hit 38 °C and a real feel of 44 °C. CRAZY! So during my free time I'm mostly tolerating a routine load-shedding, lying down under the fan, sipping on a cool drink, maybe reading a book. I even stopped drinking coffee.

This is the worst time of the year. 😤

I totally understand you not wanting to exercise when the weather is like that. Humidity is different, and when the temperature feels like 44°C, you need to be cautious.
It's a good thing that Ramadan was early this year:)

It's a good thing that Ramadan was early this year

Oh, now that you mention it, we surely got off easy. Except for a about week or so, the heat wasn't as torturous during Ramadan.

No I can can boldly say that you're one very flexible lady. The last time I tried the triangle pose, my hands didn't make it to the ground. This post is a reminder that I need to take my exercising more seriously:)

that we (I) owe it to myself to bloom and grow.

I can't agree less with you on this. Irrespective of the angle we look at it, we owe it it ourselves to grow and glow.

Thanks for stopping by with your lovely comment.
You should give the triangle pose another try. Somedays our bodies just don't corporate, and that's ok:)

Somedays our bodies just don't corporate, and that's ok:)

This is very true. I'd give it another try and see how it goes.

Thanks for stopping by with your lovely comment.

It's always a pleasure and you're most welcome.

I love your poses. And you are right, taking a pause help one refocus on seeing things in another veil.

Thank you 😊
Do you also get the chance to enjoy the nature around you?

Sometimes, I get to pause like you and that happens whenever I am close to the sea.

Ok! The sea is perfect for that.
Enjoy, whenever you get the chance 🤗

I surely will. I am a crazy lover of the sea, hehe.🤭🤭

Thank you very much @arcange. I appreciate this:)))

Sometimes, I feel like I need that pause in my life just as you have described, when life is filled with many activities, up and down and you feel disorganized or at a crossroad, it's best to take a pause and feel the calmness within before moving ahead.

You just inspired me in my feelings, thank you.

Thanks for your lovely comment 😊
You're most welcome.
Have a lovely day:)

A place where peace and tranquility are very well perceived. I wish I was there 😃 I think your face conveys concentration and reflection at the same time. How wonderful! I really congratulate you for taking this day for yourself and for transmitting us this teaching.

I definitely need a break like this. I want to keep blooming like the spring and know that, although things may change like the seasons, I will do my best in each one.

PS: I like your hair 🤗 💟

You will, once you believe, and I'm sure you do. Personal growth happens in different ways:)

I like your hair

Thanks 😍 My hair has been doing much better since the sun's been shinning again:)

Have a lovely day 💜

What a beautiful setting, refreshing.

It was, indeed:)
