My 19 favorite photographs of 2022 | Year in review

20220122-DSCF2286.jpg

This is something I try to do every year. It's good to have a reflection of what you've created over the time passed. Gratitude and appreciation for being able to make art, to be disciplined, and a chance to be honest about the mistakes and shortcomings along the way.

For me, this year was a step in a good direction compared to the last one, photography wise, even though it could have been much better. I won't dwell on the past mistakes and the way I organized myself and my time, but I'll try to learn from the experience and show up more next time.

These photos might not be the best I've taken this year, but are, for one reason or another, among my favorites. And the year started with a few days of snow - I just love walking the streets when the snow is just starting to fall, the city just looks beautiful in white.

Small hill on top of a Kalemegdan park overlooks the city and is a usual spot for visitors to enjoy the peaceful sunset, such as this one. I've included a statue of Victor in the distance and framed the subjects between the two large trees.

When you are in Budapest, in front of such one-of-a-kind, magnificent structure that is the Parliament building, it's hard to take a bad photo. When surrounded with black stormy clouds, the Gothic nature of the building becomes even more impressive and otherworldly.

Few hundred meters from the parliament, the tram line that's riding along the Danube river bank stops to board the passengers. The face of the young gentleman poking through the window instantly grabs my attention and I make this quick capture of it against the beautiful architecture in the background.

We are still in Budapest - now looking over the Elizabeth bridge. If you have only limited time available in the city, make sure to visit the 4 main bridges. Each is beautiful in it's own way and this one is the most modern one.

When you hang out a lot with your friends, you start to think and look alike. :D I was amused to see this reaction from these guys as they were looking somewhere in the distance, blinded by the sun. I was shooting through a glass which added some interesting reflections.

Everything is better in a good company. On the lake near my house in the suburbs you can see all sorts of different life forms. I was photographing the kayakers and ducks when two birds in-sync flew in to emphasize the story even more.

Riding on the bus and listening to your favorite music - it's easy to get lost in thoughts and completely zone out. It was the sweet moment as the girl looked like disconnected from the world around her. And of course, the photograph wouldn't be nearly as good without the reflection of her face in the window.

"Some people feel the rain, others just get wet." Not sure who to attribute to this quote but it perfectly describes this image. A bunch of people was hiding from pouring rain in the passage between the buildings, yet this little fellow was not bothered at all. Kids really know how to be present and enjoy the moment.

First time in the old University after almost ten years. It's a beautifully designed building with long tall halls and black and white tiles. Taking photographs inside is frowned upon but I did make this one capture with a student probably waiting for exam results.

I know we are not supposed to look at the flashes as the steel is being welded, but I had to stop for a minute and photograph these workers doing their job. Under the bridge, in a dark ambient the light from the melting metal lit up the scene.

Candid street portrait of a young lady waiting for bus. Being behind the glass, with raindrops on it, it creates a nice, smooth texture. Wide open aperture separated the subject from the background. I was waiting until she looked away from the phone and in my direction and bingo.

I've spent a lot of this year in the forest. It's near my house and it's been a perfect spot for my meditative walks, tai chi trainings and photographic adventures. It looks especially good in the morning fog. I used myself for a subject this time.

Another spot that I liked to visit in the morning is of course the Kalemegdan park. This early in the day, especially in such misty conditions it's usually only visited by people walking their dogs. I just love how the fog adds depth to the photograph by covering the trees in different layers and shades of gray.

Air pollution has been the hot topic in Serbia once again this year. We are among the world leaders in this terrible category which shows up in poor health of the population over the last decade. You can see the example here on this polluted morning when it's best to stay inside. In the distance, the old railway bridge, buildings hidden behind it, and lone boat going away, as if escaping this post-apocalyptic place.

Here is a photograph very similar to the previous, this time from a more personal perspective. It's taken at Zemun Quay, on a calm Danube river. You can't see the horizon from a thick fog, the man on the boat is being followed by the group of seagulls.

How much a little bit of rain and wet pavement can enhance the ordinary scene! This photo was taken recently, I don't remember seeing such bright, vibrant car lights often and they are emphasized in the reflection of wet surfaces.

Knight and queen in front of the old fortress - this young couple looked like out of a fairytale. I don't know what they were doing here dressed so beautifully but I sure used the opportunity to make my dream photograph come to life (I often feel like I was better suited for the more ancient times). Two girls sitting on top of the wall makes this scene almost feel unbelievable.

Hope you enjoyed my year in review! Which photo is your favorite?

These are all so cool. I like the reflection of the girl on the bus. Such a cool shot.

One of my favorites for sure. Thanks!

Which photo is your favorite?

All of them :)

Thank you! :D

I agree with @lighteye's answer... All of them! :)

Each of them tells a story, we just have to switch on a bit of the imagination.
But maybe my favorite is the young man in the tram in Budapest. Maybe. As it is difficult to exclude all the other photos :))

Thank you very much, dear @mipiano! :) I'm glad the photos sparked imagination or an urge to know the backstory. That's why I make them and try to add an element of mystery to them. :)

all the photos are extremely good, I fully understand why you chose them as the best of 2022, they are a delight to the eye
