This week's theme is Portrait Photography. Portrait photography is one of my favorites. To make a good portrait, you need to do more than just take a picture of someone. That image should tell something about the person in the photo. I am looking forward to seeing what you all come up with for this theme.

How is the Photography Lovers Contest set up?

pageBreak.png

The contest is broken up into 2 different tiers. Each will have a different rewards for the winners based on what tier you enter into.

Here is a breakdown of the rewards based on the tiers:

PlaceProfessionalAmateur
1st5 Hive4 Hive
2nd3 Hive2 Hive
3rd2 Hive1 Hive

Each contest will be open for submissions for 6 days and close on the 7th day so that winners can be picked and the new post can be made.

There will be a new theme announced each week and the themes are going to be a bit different than the traditional themes. The goal of the themes are to challenge your skill as a photographer and force you to think outside the box to get some really interesting photos.

How to enter

pageBreak.png

When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.

For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.

That's pretty much it, drop your main photo in the comment section of this post and state your tier. If you want to make a separate post for your entry as well, that is fine, but for your entry to be valid, your photo and tier must be in here in the comment section of this post. You are also encouraged to join the Photography Lovers Community and make your post to the Photography Lovers Community.

Additional Notes

pageBreak.png

  • If your post has more than one photo in it, make sure to use the photo you wanted judged as your main photo for your post.

  • Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.

  • You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.

  • If you do not state which tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and if you are caught plagiarizing, you will be blacklisted from competing in my competitions and blacklisted in the community.

Thank you!

Sunset at a Bangkok temple

One of my favorite portrait ever. I shot it during a beautiful day in bangkok, strolling around the the city from markets to temples. Here my wife is staring at sun, soon to disappear under the horizon, not without some nostalgia.

Peace 🙏

This is the photo being used. F6.5 - 1/2500s - 43mm - ISO 200 - Nikon D3400 - Edited in LR with a custom grunge preset created by me. This set was taken as a growing interest in urban exploration among the youth of our local town. This spot is hidden away from normal eyes and only was found after accidentally getting lost.

Amateur Tier

This would be my first entry to the Photography Lovers Community Contest, and I choose ‘Amateur’ tier.

The post with portraits is here:

It’s hard for me to chose one photo, but since this is a requirement, please judge this one for the competition:

Fujifilm X-T20, ISO200, 1/1300 sec, Helios-44 M-5 58mm f/2

Police Portrait #1 s.jpg

I'm undecided about tier so lets just go with professional. This shot is of an LMPD officer on Kentucky Derby day back in September. There was about 30-40 of them in riot gear just standing in the middle of the street, had marched out after the militia left and stood in the middle of the road for a while before marching off again.

My wonderful friend Sandra with her first child. There is such a sweet connection between a mother and child. We all want connection in our lives. Seeing and sensing this mother and child bond is something precious.

If you want go off the beaten track, Saraguro is worth a stopover for its authenticity and traditional culture.

All over the city we can see the essence of their culture. Here we can see a lady and her daughter in typical clothes. Pearl necklace and colorful top, covered with a large black fabric and a small black hat.

Some people describe the black clothing typical of the Saraguro as a sign of mourning for the death of the Inca Emperor Atahualpa.

No idea if it's the truth or not as they don't talk to strangers much.
