~ Long Nights ~

So, in my last post Expectant ~ Trifectant ~ i had a section called Long Nights. This is the photography from that section that i decided to make a separate post about. That post was long enough and there were some great shots here that would divert attention away from the art and artistic process... which you can check out in that post.

DSCN0135.JPG

I took my art out one night while i was working on this and had it on my patio. The artificial lighting gave an odd cast and the colors saturated in a way that i didn't expect. Since i had some time to play with i decided to try out a few different photographic techniques.

DSCN0138.JPG

I experimented with different lighting settings... different shutter speeds and fstops. I find that digital cameras are a little less flexible than manual cameras... but my digital camera sucks to be honest, compared to the ones used here in this community on a regular basis.

DSCN0139.JPG

Each image i'm sharing in this post hasn't been touched up in any after the fact program or editing process. These are the shots as i shot them. I removed many of the images that were extremely repetitive... but every image in this post is different for those with the eyes to see.

DSCN0144.JPG

Thanks for being here and for your time and attention. Other than scrolling and looking at the photos... this will not be as in depth of a long ass post of mine as usual. You can thank me later!

Let's get this party started...

~ Nothing Ventured ~

They say, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" and i tend to agree with that sentiment. If you want to add venture you have to adventure. Nothing ventured (venture: An undertaking that is dangerous, daring, or of uncertain outcome) Nothing gained.

DSCN0146.JPG

I say this to explain that it really wasn't that much of a risk for me to try out new photographic techniques. Just the lighting alone is an adventure in my book.

DSCN0147.JPG

However, trying to caputure the details and colors with the limitations and new opportunities presented a creative opportunity to me.

DSCN0148.JPG

i believe i can

DSCN0149.JPG

DSCN0150.JPG

After adjusting the focus, lighting settings, shutter speed and f-stops... i decided to try something a little more risky.

DSCN0151.JPG

The idea to discover if a long exposure would work was entering my mind and consuming my focus to get the best of what i was attempting.

DSCN0152.JPG

I was trying really hard to get the best value in color out of the lighting. I felt like the purple of the figures wasn't coming out as well as it could.

DSCN0153.JPG

Try as i might... some times it was more on the blue side diffused, and other times it seemed to be overcast with pink or red tones.

DSCN0154.JPG

I'm not a professional photographer and my camera is a simple Nikkon Coolpix point and shoot from a decade ago.

DSCN0155.JPG

But i'm willing to learn and i'm will to exercise trial and error to get the results i want.

DSCN0156.JPG

In this case, i never got there! hahahaha

DSCN0157.JPG

And, as i said, i was thinking the whole time on a more creative level than technical leve. My whole goal was to just capture the progress steps of creating the art and nothing more.

DSCN0160.JPG

But, as this Long Night presented the opportunity, i decided to do something a bit different than my norm on this break.

~ The Venture ~

DSCN0163.JPG

Let's get this party started...

At this point it just seemed like no matter how i adjusted all settings it was the same or similar outcomes. So, i thought about @barbarabezina and her style.

DSCN0166.JPG

I also thought about the many lightpainters and long-exposure photographers from this community.

DSCN0167.JPG

I decided during my break to give those tactics a bit of a go... and i think it turned out quite well.

In the Alien Art Hive community we love glitch art. It was cool to try an glitch out my photography attempts to accomodate.

DSCN0173.JPG

DSCN0174.JPG

I feel like the blur and movement added a lot to this artwork and the subjects.

~ Right Where It Belongs ~

I posted all these images in their chronologically ordered taking of the photographs. So, i hope that helps you all see the true progression of imagery as it was captured. I have only altered one photo at the very end to rotate it. All the rest of the images are completely unadulterated.

I was really surprised at the results. Although, i didn't fully appreciate them until i got a look on my computer after moving the files out of the camera and into the laptop.

7a.JPG

This one i did alter for posting in my art post and making it devoid of color. Though, when it comes to photography, i prefer that Black & White actually be shot in black and white. I feel like it's cheating to just adjust the color in editing.

7b.JPG

~ Where Is It Going ~

To Be honest... i have no idea where this is going. I tried all kinds of techniques to move the camera while the shutter was open. I found it quite refreshing and counterintuitive to the normal way i fell shooting macro in particular.

7c.JPG

I'm used to usually holding as still as possible and holding my breath and squeezing the button... like a sniper. Hovering over the subject and having to anchor my arms and steady my wrist to make sure everything is as stabilized as possible.

7d.JPG

This long exposure method and creative artistic approach took those shackles off! I was able to be free and have motion... in my body and in the photos.

7h.JPG

I rather enjoyed having things out of focus on purpose... and blurring things, not from a mistake, but from the figurative brushstroke of moving the aperture intentionally!

~ Spinning Out Of Control ~

I write a lot about the art and the process in the last post i made and linked in the beginning. I used a lot of angles in my shooting of the process to show different aspects of the art. However, i feel like this post and this art show off those different aspects even better.

This is the final image of the artwork below. I do have it up for sale as an NFT at the NFT ShowRoom on Hive!

13 (2).jpg

I will create an auction in the future for the fist edition. But i had 16 other editions at staggered prices. I priced this one to sell and there are only a couple editions left for the lowest price of 3 Hive. The others are 4 and 5 Hive. Right now with the dip in value of Hive it is a great time to go buy some art.

Click on the blue link beleow to go straight to the purchase page for this artwork i titled "Expectant: Trifectant " I also added an unlockable file with the finished High Resolution scan of the final copy for those that purchase the art.

BUY MY ART HERE

I thank you all for your time and attention and consideration to find value in this post. I definitely stepped outside my comfort zone and feel that it was well rewarding and expanding that zone of comfort. I feel like this style of photographing opened up some new and different artistic opportunities for me. I might have to just go and reshoot all my old artworks in this fashion to see what i come up with.

If you want to see any of these shots as an NFT... let me know in the comments. I would also be curious to know your favorite image or images from this post either way! Thanks for joining me... and until next time... TAKE CARE

Sort:

I have (or better said, had, until it broke) a Nikon Coolpix camera. Point and shoot, it made good images under daylight conditions. I never played with in-camera effects - nor do I with any of my other cameras. For that, I use Photoshop. I got the CS 2 version, which is not supported anymore by Adobe, but I also got it for nothing, free download. Just google "Adobe CS2 free download" and find a suitable site (but be careful about scam sites, I have Norton Security pre-check my searches). There is so much more you can do in Photoshop, even though I had Photoshop for long time (a previous version, Adobe 7, went to file heaven with a crashed hard drive), I have not even explored all possibilities with the various filters and program settings.
What you finally came up with works pretty good. Maybe try making AI variations in Dream Wombo and/or Deep Dream. A combination of the two works pretty good as well. As for Dream Wombo, you get a additional feature on your phone, which is not available on the PC version, and that is you can upload your own artwork (or photo) to influence the outcome, settings would be from shallow, to medium to strong. What works best when you do that are more simple images with strong contrasts. If you check my previous posts, I have several that deal with that.
Cheers
Otto

Hey, thanks for stopping by Otto. I appreciate your time. This post came out after i left that message... so the one i really wanted you to see was This One.

I have PS version CS6 i think that i also got for free. I just have a difficult time trying to get the user interface to work the way i need it to. I'm sure it's operator error. hahaha I generally don't mess with the settings in an art way on my digital cameras. I usually know what i want the outcome to look like and just set it to produce the photos looking that way.

I have played around with AI stuff... just not the Wombo one yet. I will have to give it a go. You don't have to respond to this comment... since i am going back to comment on your post's thread now! hahaha

Hello, I hope you're fine. I like his two images which are however completely different. The first is blurry and gives a 3D effect as if the image moved through space and time like a quantum teleportation through the past, present and future. The second image or all the extremities points like a new mountain range. Everything is emplified by the effect you have given. The breasts, belly, nose, mouth and also even the eyes.

Thank you! I hope you are doing well also. Yes, these two images were pretty good. The foreshortening of the second image does accentuate all the things you pointed out. The first image does look like a quantum teleportation in progress! hahaha You put it quite well. I'm glad you stopped by and took the time to check out my art photography. The other art post i made actually goes more into the art process. Take care and see you around. =)

After if it was necessary to choose between the two that I have selected I prefer a little more the second

That's interesting. I'm glad you liked that one. I preferred the first one a little more. However, i do like seeing the art in all the weird angles too... so the second one definitely fits in the weird angle category. hahaha

that was a really cool idea to take those shots! especially since this work was so much about the colors, I think its really nice to see it in such different ways.. I really like the ones where it is getting out of focus and moving!!

Those were my favorite shots too! I will definitely be playing around with this technique more often in the future. Thanks for stopping by. =)

I really do love tech (tho it often doesn't love me haha you should see the self scanners react when I enter the checkout lol) but I love that we can make so much more out of our work. Art today is never static , it is always evolving and finding new lives and 'new ways of being' really cool continual experimentation with this piece @castleberry

Yes, i love the tech but the tech don't love me. One day i will get good with photoshop and the other programs to be able to enhance my art. But for now... i suppose i will stick with the old ways. I think the camera will be enough fun to play around with. hahahha

Finally, the end result is brilliant. I love it. ...I also love all the photographic edits particularly the one with the highly saturated red coloured hair and some contrast. You did ask really great job creating all of this.

Thanks bro! If you haven't seen the other post... then go check that one out. This one was more for the photography and the other one is more on the art! Glad you stopped by and appreciated the artwork.

I missed the post. The final result is brilliant and mindblowing. I particularly love the vibrant colours used for it. Awesome Job man.

Hey, thanks. I appreciate it. Looking forward to starting something new soon. Take care buddy!

boyyyyyy, that was long, xd. But worth it. I loved your trial and error approach to it. I like the final result in the end. I need to head over to NFT Showroom now.

Yes, my previous post is even longer but it has more of the art process and not so much about the photography.... though it does have a million photos! hahaha Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I'm sure getting down here to the comments was tiresome! hahaha

It was, but then I was happy I did.

Also I think I need to head over to the showroom and buy one. I like it

Sweet! Thanks in advance bro! hahaha Glad you liked it enough to consider buying one!

Cool to have a detailed process and experimentation report. I'l be checking that Alien community as well.

Awesome! Yes, my last post was more about the art process. I posted it in the Alien Art Hive community. That community isn't just for alien stuff... but art of all sorts. Thanks for stopping by!

Boobas :3

You can see them in more of their glory in my previous post. Hahhaa

Your taste in art is already at a different level,

And how did you did this? Is it just a camera effect?

Screen Shot 2022-04-26 at 11.49.03 AM.png

Thanks. Yes, i put my camera's shutter speed to the slowest setting. That means it stayed open longer and let more light in. While the shutter was opened i moved the camera. On this particular shot i think i started the photo closer to the art in a zoom... and clicked... and while the shutter was open i moved the camera higher and away from the artwork. So, i did a manual zoom out while the camera was taking the photo. No filters or apps or any editing was applied to these shots. Just pure photography.
Thanks for stopping by.

I'm speechless, it's just so amazing. Capturing that kind of image with some shots.
Absolutely pure talent.
And your always welcome sir.😊

I appreciate the kind words. It was more of a photographic experiment. There are quite a few people on Hive that do photography with similar techniques. It's what made me think to try it out. =)

Well, it turns to be very cool. 😊

Hive Power Up Month - Feedback from April day 21

I'm curious about the process you went through to draw it

I made 3 posts about it. The last one... just before this post you can check out here. It has the links to the other two previous Work in Progress posts.
https://peakd.com/hive-158694/@castleberry/expectant

very interesting work, congratulations!

Thank you my friend.

Very creative imagery.

Thank you! =)

I really like the subject and painting. So you did end up altering it digitally?
The motion results went up quite well. Colors are definitely smtg that is affected when taking pictures with most cameras. It's specially hard to get colors right when they are bright. I usually have to post-edit to get desired results, which is time consuming.

It's been a long time since I have a good camera, but it would be nice to have a semi-pro DSLR or smtg, cause cellphone cameras usually aren't that good. At least not from the not-so-expensive phones I buy. I used to have a cheap Canon DSLR but unfortunately forgot it in a bus while travelling through Guatemala ☹️

OH dang! That sucks to have left/lost your camera. I've never had one that good. I don't think i ever did end up doing much digital altering. I've been busier than normal and out of town so it's been hectic just keeping up. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to check out my art!
