For the Love of Doors

In my never ending quest to create an interesting blog Ive decided to do a post about, wait for it.... doors!

If you're reading this you're probably like "Doors? Really? Is this guy for real? How interesting could doors be?"

It will be good I swear. Actually I make no promises. But I will say that doors can be really interesting and also quite beautiful. At least to me.

Here are a few photos of some pretty doors that me and my wife took over the past year and a half or so. I hope you enjoy!

Church doors are often very plain but every once in a while you come across a really nice one, like this vibrant magenta colored one.

Another church door, less colorful than the last but unique nonetheless. I like its burnt finish. It feels old and timely, like its seen some things and been through some shit.

Every door kind of has its own character about it. They can be funky or old or even prim and proper, like the white door below. When I see this door it makes me think of large hats, poofy dresses, and maybe a parlor tea room or something.

Flowery doors are always a crowd pleaser.

There is a small town close to where I live that is famous for its roses. In the spring people come from all around to see the roses in bloom.

Many of the homes have massive rose wines climbing their way arounds the homes doors and windows.

The town in the spring is our favorite small town to visit in all of France.

Doors can be quaint and charming and they can also have a presence about them thats feels grandiose, like this castle door thats large and looming.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, doors can also be quite small, like the one in the photo below. Legs for scale! My wife really liked this door because of the lightening bolt on the front of it. It reminded her of Harry Potter.

I don't know if thats a lock on the door or a knocker or if it even has a function at all. I like the color of this door though and its ornamental design.

The two doors in the next photo are super plain but the contrasting colors give them a real modern contemporary look to them. Okay, actually, I'm just throwing out buzz words now. I don't actually know design. I like this photo though.

Shutters on doors are another crowd pleaser, at least for people like me. Though nearly every home in Europe seems to have shutters on their windows and doors, they are actually really uncommon in Canada and North America in general. I don't know if I've every seen them in any of the places I've lived back home. I find shutters to be both functional and atheistically pleasing to look at.

Another quaint and charming door with that sort of European cottagey feel about it.

Flower boxes, vibrant colors and a row of mailboxes. This door has a little bit of everything and it all seem to work nicely.

Double doors! I love the symmetry of this next one made by the hedge bush in the middle. Its probably one of my favorites.

Here is one last church door to round out the post. The red really pops against the white stone of the buildings exterior.
