Capturing the beauty of Terschelling on a Sunny day

Terschelling is an island located just off the coast of the Netherlands. It's one of the 5 (or 8) inhabited Wadden islands that's pretty known by the locals of the Netherlands (yo. Eventually, most of us end up making a trip to one of the islands. I've spent a few days on this island because my cousin was getting married here. The island is absolutely beautiful. Nice beaches, and colorful green dunes during the Summer. While I was traveling here with my family, we were fortunate enough to experience the island on a sunny day. Perfect to explore the island with my camera.

A 400-year-old lighthouse

The only way to access Terschelling is by boat or ferry. One of the most iconic landmarks on the island is the Brandaris Lighthouse, which dates back to 1594 and is the oldest in the Netherlands . I haven't visited the lighthouse myself. But it is a popular spot for tourists and photographers because you can get a nice view of the whole island.

Due to the sunny weather, it felt like a true holiday. As for photography, it was a pretty nice sight, as I got to see the island in its vibrant colors. While getting out of the hostel, the first thing that I did was climb one of the highest dunes to get a nice view from there. I felt pretty blessed with so much sunlight. I could use a small exposure so everything was getting sharp.

I took these photographs mostly with my tripod so I can spend some good quality time composing my shots. It's always a bit of a hassle to carry a tripod with me, but I'm lucky enough that it is a carbon one, so it doesn't weight that much.

Sidenote about tripods. I, unfortunately, had to learn it the hard way, but I've destroyed (by usage) 10 "cheap" tripods in my first years that could've bought me the one that I have right now, which I still use after 6+ years. If you like what you do, consider buying a more sturdy, yet light one with a ball head. It will help you save time, resources, and the hassle of using one that's sensitive to wind.

While my entire family was here, most of the time everybody was walking around alone (or together), I surely had a lot of fun on my own. I spent a decent amount of time hiking up the dunes and going places. But I had to get ready for the party that was going on and have some food with my brother and sister.

Enjoying the green dunes

I always imagined that the Dutch dunes were just sandy. At least, that's what dunes look like in my head when I think about them. I didn't think they'd be green like this. It's a nice sight, and I made sure to take enough photographs of them.

Getting some work done while I'm here

I recently received this watch from Castle Watch Co. to take commercial photographs of. The brand focuses on travel and was a pretty hot item promoted through Instagram, which I spend pretty much time on back in the day. I still have this watch, it has a classic clean design.

A lot of chilling people

There were a lot of people that were scattered around the island. This guy, for example, I did not expect to see someone else here, as I haven't seen this guy sit there when I was getting there. The high grass makes up for some good camouflage lol. I was happy to see someone chilling there as it was the perfect moment to take a photograph to illustrate a hot summer day.

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site

I got a bunch more photographs from Terschelling, but I wanted to highlight the green dunes in this post. I hope you enjoyed these photographs. Did you know? The Waddenzee is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Even though I live here in the Netherlands, I had no idea. I have some cool shots of it that I'll share in a post in later these days.

Cheers,
Ruben

What a tranquil place. There is the inner peace of nature. Thank you for the virtual tour of the place, it seemed that I was there too.

It was a wonderful place to visit! If you have a chance to visit one of the Dutch Wadden islands, you should definitely go yourself (but make sure it's Summer, as our Summers aren't that warm :P)

Wawoo beautiful place

Thank you Nishani :)
