Exploring the Allgäu Alps - The Hirschegg Panorama Hike - Stage 1

Meanwhile I could set camp at the edge of the Allgäu Alps in Bavaria. If you have followed my blog over the past years you will know that the Allgäu is one of my favorite destinations to go hiking and to enjoy being outside in nature.

Last weekend I set out for my first tour in the Kleinwalsertal. Starting point was the Austrian village Hirschegg which can be reached in a 15 min car drive from Oberstdorf:

The Kleinwalsertal is traffic-wise an Austrian exclave since it can only be accessed via Germany. On foot however it is possible to exit the valley into the further Vorarlberg-region.

In the background the first ridge of the Bavarian Allgäu Alps. The Nebelhorn, Oberstdorf's landmark mountain is just covered by the Kleinwalsertal foothill to the right.

Looking towards the Kleiner Widderstein, with 2236 m one of the most prominent peaks in the Kleinwalsertal.

Edelweiss (Leontopodium nivale) - the classic.

Usually found in hard to reach alpine meadows and steep slopes. Not this one, as it was grown in a front garden as a potted plant.

The Himalayan Impatiens glandulifera ("Policeman's helmet") became an ubiquitous plant in the region. It's decorative but highly invasive, displacing endogenous plants wherever it grows. Here it is known as "Japanisches Springkraut". A light touch and thier ripe pods burst open and hurl seeds far into the environment.

I hope you enjoyed my photographic excursion along the Kleinwalsertal. Thanks for watching and see you at stage 2 of this panorama hike.

I've been in this area a couple of times. And your photographs triggered my memories of this nice countryside a lot. They show the scenery there very impressively.
You seem to have a really good relationship to your camera. Especially your photo of the Schafalpenköpfe can hardly be seen any better if one were there (appart from the size of the field of view ^^).

Now, I'm getting hungry to do another Allgäu hiking trip . I've just hired my wife to play travel agency again (search and book). xD
We still had a small unused vacation window for next year anyway.

I love your photos! Thanks for the travel report.

Thanks for stopping by @quantumg. Glad to hear that I could trigger some nice memories. And yes, the relationship to my longtime companion EOS 7D is a strong one indeed:) Her days are counted though, since it slowly but steadily approaches its shutter cycle maximum.

A few more hiking reports will come out hopefully during the course of next week.

We have spent the last 6 years sking in that valley - and we plan to go this year also for hiking.
Just out of curiosity - is Hirschenegg the English spelling of the name? I know it only as Hirschegg.

Good catch, thank you. I don't know why Hirschen got stuck in my mind.

It's a wonderful hiking area, for all skill and stamina levels. So you got something looking forward to :)

Each and every of these shots would make a great entry for my Appreciate Beauty of Nature photo challenge hehe :) Wonderful photo collection from an epic hike.

I have heard about Edelweiss, but have never seen one, very interesting looking flower!!

Its really a special flower and an alpine survival artist.

As if I was there. All the scenes are so lively. Thank you for sharing the beauty of nature.

Thank you, glad to hear that!
