Market Friday A new Lens and the Historic District

Market Friday A new Lens and the Historic District

A post for Market Friday hosted by @dswigle, if you haven't followed her yet you should she is one of the kindest and most supportive people here on Hive, a comment from her is like a ray of sunshine on your page.
This is the one tag and challenge that I always make a point of joining, and also look through the posts of others that join the challenge and seeing markets from all around the world.

For this weeks post, Again I had another post prepared, but I brought a new lens and had to try it out and I thought a new lens and the subject of these shots would count as a Market Friday post

The day after I got the lens I headed down to the port and walked around the port and the historic district and took a few test shots, and was quite happy how they came out.
Ley me start with this shot of some of the shops and restaurants and the cobblestone streets.
Some shots so that's part of how I justify this as a market Friday post

OK here is the lens still in the box a TTArtisan 11mm F2.8 fisheye/Ultra wide lens
What is a fisheye lens you may ask, well its a lens with a 180 degree field of view and there are two types

A circular fisheye lens – typically captures light from 180 degrees in all directions and projects a complete hemispherical image onto the camera sensor, producing a circular image on a black rectangle.
A Full-frame fisheye lens – projects the hemispherical image beyond the sensor producing a rectangular image of the scene, but one which uses the sensor’s full array of pixels. The field of view is reduced, though still extremely wide.

this lens is the rectangular type so it down catch the circular fisheye look, but is more of an Ultra Wide lens which is what I was after as in some spots even with the widest lens I had it was hard to catch a full shot of something's particularly some buildings.
I ordered the lens through Amazon, another justification for calling this a market Friday post as I did buy it.

It was relatively cheap at $235, the cheapest lens I have, well not quite I do have a vintage Helios lens that only cost $50

OK now back to the photos taken in the historic District downtown here in New Bedford , walking up one of the cobblestone streets

The next shot is to show how the image looked as it came off the camera, as you can see there is a curve effect on the image which I could easily straighten in Lightroom

This is a manual lens, where you have to set everything your self no auto this or that, including the aperture and I was trying different settings since it was the first time using this lens and hence the ? for the aperture setting as I didn't note down what it was set to on the lens when taking them, which I probably should have.

And further up the same street the Moby Dick Restaurant

Now the next photo is here to give a tip

When out taking photos its good to be observant of your surroundings, in this case it was early morning and there was hardly any traffic on the street, and I was taking long exposure shots of 30 Seconds, and here is how I relate to being observant as I said there was hardly any traffic, but I stayed alert and while taking this image noticed a car coming down the road behind me, and had to quickly pick up the camera and move off the road.
The shutter was still open and hence the weird light effects in this next image

As said in the other comment when you showed me a photo, this lens shoots really wide. My widest lens is the 16-35mm - would be fun to compare them. I'll book a flight and shoot your photos with my lens 😂

Before I saw the second photo I thought "wow, this lens shoots pretty straight, no distortions ;)

The last photo looks cool - the house and the street are still quite sharp although you moved the camera, and there are the light effects ... nice 😀

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

Trust me its a lot wider than 16mm, well the widest I had was 17, and I took a shot here and had to be right across the road,
for the shot of the Moby Dick Place, with this lens I was one the road right by the building

and then a car came along with 5 seconds to go hence the squiggly lines lOL

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
!invest_vote

Great, your example is enough for me to imagine how wide it really is. I would just make a pano with a few shots 😉

!BEER and !PIZZA - nice 😃
!invest_vote

Yeah a pano would have been cheaper but at only 235 I thought why not

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
!invest_vote

Of course, that's a price where you can't go wrong, and it certainly makes a lot of fun. Merging a pano is sometimes also quite some work.

That’s very true indeed

The funniest thing is, I can take pictures and understand photography a little but this is beyond me.

The lens is great, so are the pictures!

The next shot is to show how the image looked as it came off the camera,

Wow! I love this. You are a professional, these shots gives you away!

It definitely gives you a different perspective being a rectangular fish eye like that. How cool that you got a new toy and you got to try it out! Nice job on the photos. It looks like it does a fantastic job in the right hands!

It is all manual which is also good to get some shots shooting full manual

I also have a lens of this brand, I have tested against the backlight, and the rays of the sun have a circle in the image, I like this effect very much, its inconvenience is that it doesn't auto focus.
dscf7895.jpg

That is a real cool effect

I kind of like it’s manual it’s not often I shoot full manual

A new lens... a new toy!!!!
Wow, it is ... those squiggly lines!!!
So cool, @tattoodjay !

Yeah at a good price only $235 is cheap for a full frame lens

The Squiggly lines were because I was taking a 30 second shot, and a car came down the road towards me so I had to quickly pick up the camera and get off the road lOL

I am so jealous, and the light at night makes the pictures like a postcard i want to send now!!!
It would do so cool with a lensball

Ohh yeah I had not thought about that but yeah it would work so well with a lensball May have to try that next year when it warms up

This may b

This may be loosely related to Market Friday, but I agree — I’m it qualifies because you are trying out the new lens you bought! Thanks for the info on fish eye lenses. I didn’t know there were two types.

Glad you got off the road in time for the oncoming car. And I’m gl you shared the funny lighting effects! It looks like a firefly gone berserk. Ha ha.

Lol I like that description a firefly gone bezerk lol 😂

Yes I am glad I was observant and saw the car coming

Nice photography.

Thanks kindly your support is appreciated

Have a great day

!LUV some !BEER now and again

Thanks so much was fun trying out a new lens
