Yes, animals definitely do not seek to live here, at least side by side with humans, so far. But on the other hand, there are a couple of cozy places for them that can help them survive the harsh winters. I remember one documentary about a desert dog who settled in some abandoned factory in the middle of a desert and raised two puppies there. In a way, it did her good.
