Making Cannabis tea from male plants

With the unfortunate news that two of my three cannabis plants emerged as males, I decided to make a tea out of their stems, leaves and branches. So even though I will not get flowers from these, maybe I can still enjoy some of the cannabis effects through a tea. This is my first time making a cannabis tea, so I may need to go back and make another batch if I steep it too short or lack what is needed for THC to bind, more on that later.

I make the tea using cut up pieces of the leaves and rest of the plant, small enough to fit into a tea bag. I make two batches, one decarboxylated and one not. More on that later...

The hardest part was cutting my plants stem at the base.. so sad :-( But I knew this plant was not meant to be in my grow tent and needed to leave. And to make room for new sproutlings to start which may be females.

After cutting both males at the base I have lots of plant material to work with.

Amazing how much they grew in just a month and a half! They don't call it weed for nothin.

I picked out my favorite leave and gave it to @lovely.logic to hold on to. Its so pretty.

The back sides have even more texture, very strong looking leaves. It was a good specimen, sucks it turned out to be a male.

Decarboxylation:

Using the oven I turn it onto a low heat, around 220-240F (104C-115C) and place some of the cut up leaves onto a tray. Waiting around an hour they will change their chemical structure inside and making it possible to get the high from the plant. Some say just steeping the leaves is enough, but I disagree. More on that later.

I trimmed down to the stems and cooked those too.

Making the first batch with just raw cannabis leaves I weighed out around 2 grams. From what I have read the leaves and such contain around 10MG of THC per 1G of plant. So going with at least 20MG is what I would prefer. Honestly I can probably go with 50+

Using basic tea bags I place them inside. Not sure how long they will keep this way. I would suggest drying them out more as they may mold if you do not use them right away.

Closing up my bag I get ready to have some of my tea. I start heating my water on my electric stove.

Making three bags but I just use one for right now. I steep it for around 20 minutes.

Those two young plants made a lot of tea material! Lol! All of that will go in the oven.

The color of the cannabis started coming through at the five minute mark.

Once it finished steeping I took it back to the living room and enjoyed the sips on my couch. I was worried the flavor was going to be overwhelming, as my experience with edibles is the taste can be very strong. Though it was not with these leaves. Quite mild but for sure you could taste the cannabis.

I came back to the oven around an hour later and pulled out the trays, the leaves have curled up but stayed green. Not sure how long it takes to brown them but I just took them out once they curled a lot and no longer smelling strongly of plant material.

Placing them in a jar I hope they will keep for a long time.

The other jar has the stems, kept the leaves in separate jars.

So how was the tea?

Taste wise it was nice, quite mild. As for how it made me feel, nothing... I think I need to make a milk tea next time. And the reason for this is THC's affinity for fats and not water. THC binds to fat much better than water. Since I made it with only water that is what I got, a very mild tea. So using cashew milk or something fatty I plan to do this again, and try out my decarboxylated (baked) leaves. Luckily I have a huge jar of leaves to work with, so hopefully I can tune in my tea better and make it pack a punch with a little fat.

Great job with your tea process @solominer!

As far as I understand, THC is very low on the fan leaves, and generally it's during flowering when you can see some of the trichomes moving their way onto the leaves. That being said, it's still very healthy to consume cannabis leaves and stems because it's full of healthy antitoxins like @canna-curate was saying.

I think it would be interesting making tea infused with some bud, and yes it's absolutely important to use some kind of fatty ingredient.

So using cashew milk or something fatty

Would probably work perfect. In this case utilizing the cashew milk probably wouldn't have made a huge difference, if any.

Great work, I love how you utilized actual tea bags lol :D

Thank you

Okay makes sense, well maybe I just need to use more plant material then. I will try again soon using my toasted leaves and using some fat based milk and or butter as well and see how that works.

Hehe thanks, we also have those steel tea balls but we had a lot of bags on hand so I just used a few.

I've been consuming cannabis for like 8 years now but I've never gone through any of these works to fix myself something 😂. I've never planted or tried to make tea. I just roll it and smoke it, or chew it or put it in my food. Hahaha.

Seems like a fun process, though, I can see some extra fulfilment can come from carrying out all these processes, seems like it would feel like a ritual, the same way rolling up a joint feels like a ritual to me a lot of times😅.

Sadly you didn't get high, though. I can't wait to see what results you get when you add the fats/milk you plan to. Salute, playa 😃✌

Ah nice, I mostly vaporize it using a Volcano Digit. Yeah will need to try again and post my results.

Cool 😎
Thanks for shooting me all those upvies 😃 😎👍

I've never seen cannabis tea before, wow, what a creative act.
Your post today taught me something new, and I'm going to try it.
That will be immensely helpful, I'm sure.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I'm excited about this.
Continue to spread love, you are amazing!!!

Ah nice, glad my post taught ya about cannabis tea.

Will do.. thanks!

Friend @solominer , at least you are always encouraged and manage to find a solution, since the two cannabis plants that were born as males, you were able to take advantage of their stems, leaves and branches in a tea, which I imagine is a very healthy tea for the organism. Go ahead dear @solominer that you will achieve your goal in your plantations. successes

Yep I shall keep moving on, hopefully the next few will just be females and I can move on to flowering. But until then I have a solution for dealing with more males. And sure is, I should drink more of it just for the health effects regardless of how psychoactive it is.

Success will be appreciated @solominer the important thing is that you have knowledge about your plantations, especially the needs for water and specific nutrients, a tea from these species always goes down very well to the body. Greetings from Venezuela.

Cutting any plant is always hard. It’s just a lot of work that was put into it. And even if you did not fell an effect, there are still many benefits from your tea. Lots of antitoxins:)

Hah yeah its heart breaking, and true.. it was therapeutic none the less.. all those terpenes and such.

Dude, that's looking awesome. I'm curious about how it taste. I need to try it. Hope your next harvest will be female as you wish.

It was pretty mild, tastes like what cannabis smells like raw.

Yeah man me too, time will tell.

I'm glad that I was able to see the end product of those beautiful male plants, and that you were also able to get what you wanted of them and the satisfaction you got too from drinking your tea. Great job.

Amazing how much they grew in just a month and a half! They don't call it weed for nothin

It's indeed called weed😄😀, this part got me laughing so much and thanks for that. Looking forward to seeing the next post.

Me too, glad I was able to make something out of them.

Hehe yeah, it is truly amazing.. :-)

All these efforts for a tea... Brilliant And Good for Health.

Not Gonna lie, I can't make Good Tea even it doesn't need that much effort :!

But well, thanks for reminding me for making Tea.

Hehe hope your tea came out good.

Was just Fine. Thanks for asking tho.

Hope you're Having a Good day.

How are you @solominer ?

Wow! your post is creative 👍🏻☺️

thanks bud, doing good... long time no see.

glad you liked it.

Oh my!
You sure know how to make tea.

Haha yeah, though my first cannabis based tea.

I was drinking "Mate" with buds and only changes the smells nothing else

Hmm ok, so sounds like the plant product surely needs to be cooked a little at low temp to get the psychoactive effects from it. Thanks for letting me know.

You would have to see the solubility coefficient of the chemical elements of cannabis, but if you add at least 4 or 5 buds the infusion feels a bit relaxing
