The Inspiration Behind my Second Prelude.

During the middle of last year, I completed writing my second prelude. It would go on to become the second in the set of my 12 preludes, Volume one for piano.

You know what's actually funny about the whole piece? Is that I didn't plan to write it in the first place. But fortunately, I drew inspiration from a certain group of very lousy and noisy individuals - my old neighbors...

However, before I indulge you in the tales of this composition. Let me show it to you first. You can find an audio version of the piece below:

There I was laying peaceful on bed not wanting to write anything at all. All I wanted to do was just get some night sleep. It was a very cold night around 10:00pm, making it all so perfect for a relaxing and peaceful slumber.

I rolled around in bed until i found the perfect position before drifting into the dreamland. But then, without warning, I started hearing abysmal sounds coming from out my window - it was the noise of children playing.

Ha!... don't get me wrong, I love children! But in that moment, in that moment of unbearable stress, I hated every single sound that was not serene or silent! It became worse when my other outspoken neighbors decided that it was the perfect time to blast their stereos to the max and have a very LOUD party.

I screamed, I ranted, I bellowed, "Ahh!!! Go to bed you morons!" this i shrieked still feeling all so weary. But they did not stop. They wouldn't stop, for they could not hear me!
"But why?" I wondered. "Why at this time of the day?". I mean it is quite concievable to have a party at Night but for kids to play at 9:00pm in the goddamn night??? Absurdity!... Yes pure absurdity! For unless you're are raising children(creatures) of the Night, you have no right to send your kids out to play at 10:00 fucking pm!!

My fatigue had far longed left me now and I was completely awake. Ah... how I dreaded every single moment that past. It was pure torture! But you know what?... Amidst all these crazy and annoying antics came an inspiration. A tune perhaps? Yes.... amidst all the noise, a melody began developing in my inside me.
I knew that this was the work of the universe. Yes!... it wanted me to craft something special tonight...

Immediately, I grabbed my pen and paper and began notating in G major, a little sketch of what will become my 2nd prelude. I made good use of the playful and noisy sounds coming from the neighborhood as basis for the entire piece. The music as you would notice, is quite playful. There is a very catchy melody that is explored several times before a sweet melodic theme creates a transition to the second part of the piece - a much more darker theme in the relative minor of the tonic - E minor.

Yes, it was much darker. Because the neighborhood became much darker - literally.
The power went out! Haha... it shrouded the entire neighborhood, unexpectedly, with darkness.
Honestly, this pleased me. I scarcely enjoyed the complaints of the guests at the party and the screams of the children when they couldn't see anything anymore. Ha!... one child even got hurt when playing in the darkness. Ah, I fairly chucked at this. Perhaps that will teach him not to play in the dark anymore, especially late at night!

Ahh... there was serenity once more. Peace again in the night. Peace again for my slumber. For their noises would trouble me no more. Later, I finished up the last few bars of the piece and wrote down a couple instructions before going to bed....

Well that's it! Now you know the whole story, the adventure, the inspiration. Even though it was not some great life changing one, it still got the job done.

Thanks for reading and keep exploring!
